Sonic the Hedgehog 4

I don't know about you guys, but having the game exclusively as DLC, to me, is kind of like having a straight-to-video movie sequel. This is Sonic 4, and should be treated as such. When Street Fighter 4 came out, it was given the attention needed to make it a hit. Having it exclusively as DLC is effectively saying "Hi, I'm the one with the number that you can forget about." It's not even Outrun 2. Maybe offering it on both disc and DLC, yes, that would be a -good idea-, as it offers access to everyone, and people have the choice to own the packaging; their long-awaited, desperately yearned for sequel on their shelf, shining like a trophy of nostalgia.

As for episodes, I don't want dribs and drabs. This isn't an adventure game, or an RPG with a story. This is a platforming game, completed at minimal within a few hours, maybe a day. I don't need cliffhangers on a simple platforming game. The reasons for releasing Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles on different cartridges are well justified. But now we have DVDs, blu-ray, etc. There's no excuse for getting something incomplete. I want the whole fucking thing, on a disc, on my shelf kthx. I want to sit there, finish the game, sip my tea and think, "Aaaah, that was a good, whole, fulfilling experience." I don't want to sit there thinking "Where's the rest of my game, bitch?!"

And yeah, they'd better sort out that running animation too. Looks like he's got crabs. Other than that, the 5 or so seconds we saw looked... nice?

Everything but the strange looking run animation is good in my books. Yeah, it does need more wheel-o-feet. XD The model looks great and the environment, from the little bit we saw, is beautiful. I'll be picking this up on the XBLA, but I do wonder what that mystery format is...? iPhone? PC? Dreamcast?

They've taken Sonic's buckle off his sneakers!

Correction. Sonic hasn't been given his Gold Bling for his kicks yet.

Don't scare me like that Dog.

isn't it days, not weeks?

Ha, you're right. I took them for weeks because the ones before them all read seven to begin with.

Anyways, I think I'm off to bed. I'll sleep on this interesting development. One question I still wanna know the answer to. Cutscenes or no?

I know, I was screaming in joy at the attention to classic Sonic detail :D According to Sonic CD's artwork he first got the buckles then but after CD he never wore them again until Adventure.

Actually, the buckles are still on his shoes. At least from what I saw in the trailer.

Your right! There be a twinge of gold on them sneeks.....

1 hour into the reveal, and we might already have a continuity error on our hands.

(perhaps this game will set Sonic CD's place in stone, like Battle shed perspective on Shad's timeline).

I'll let you guys rack your brains over that one G'night.

This isnt a rant by any means, im just a little confused...Y'know, I really don't get it, this is as "back to sonic's roots" as SEGA should get but people are still bitchin' about eye color and stuff. Im not specifically targeting anyone but in my eyes, this does seem to be the best move for SEGA to make and the best direction for SEGA to take with sonic games(the full 3D ones are another story). Every game from sonic 2-4, sonic has gotten a new move, spin dash, insta-shield, and homing attack respectively, would someone be so kind as to explain to me why the homing attack isnt a good idea in this game?

This isn't really important, but did anyone else notice that when they showed the running animation for Sonic's feet when they showed Sonic 2, it looked a bit weird. Like something was sticking out his foot to the mid-right, next to his circular feet run thing.., XD

Looks like a very solid Sonic platformer to me.

At the basis of it, that's how I've seen all my favourite Sonic games. Colour me very hyped.

My thoughts:

I didn't mind the nu-style Sonic model they used, it's just the Sonic Rush-style run/walk running animation that irks me (although as there was an animation like that in Sonic 1 I can forgive it for now if they can make the two look alike for final release day). I liked the appearances of MotoBug and Batbot (hello inevitable carnival/casino level), I liked the speed at which the level in the trailer went at (and its design/look), I liked the implied spin-dash as that part of the trailer got underway, I liked the way Sonic at the end switched from half-running to standing without some crapping in-between animation. Oh and I like how the game starts where S3&K left off.

Very promising, I look forward to hearing and seeing more. They really do have to do something about that half-run. Bring back the Wheel o' Feet!

If the Homing attack works anything like it did in Sonic Megamix, I have no gripes.

There's a homing attack in the game now? :o Do not want!

The homing attack substantially reduces Sonic's interaction with the stage by all but eliminating any need for ordinary acceleration to reach speeds.

And the green eyes are an ugly emphasis vacuum. and were a pointless addition in the first place.

Nice detective work on the iPhone discovery.

Someone on 4chan found it.

I wasn't expecting too much from the trailer, but I felt...underwhelmed for some reason. But hey, that's what I get for having a somewhat higher expectations than I should've.

On the bright side, there's slim chance this game'll have rehashes of all the older levels...but a little classic references would be nice. At least we know that Angel Island is still in the sky, and that a certain red echidna has slacked off even worse nowadays. :P

I doubt we're going to have any new characters due to the chronology of the game, so the other character that is marked blank is likely to be Eggman or Tails...it could even be Amy. (maybe not)

I would've prefered a hard copy of the game instead of having to download it. I like to touch the disk. :(

But from what it looks. Sonic is pretty much keeping his modern, green-eyed style instead of the "Assface" style (You guys really need to stop calling it that. That ticks me off for some strange reason). Of course, we already know that now. It looks like it's a mainstay from here on out.

Also, bonus points for refering to Eggman as Eggman. Robotnik is a shite name anywhos... :P

Extra points SEGA if Nack the weasel makes any sort of an appearance in this game!

Not unless they're planning to kill him off in this arc somehow, since this is suppose to take place between S3&K and Sonic Adventure. It wouldn't make too much sense for him to show up in this game and not appear in every other game since then if he does show up.

Then again, they could surprise me.

Simply because it's not needed in a 2D game. The homing attack was created specifically to aid with the difficulty of combating in 3D(though I can complete a stage in SA without using it at all.). I never saw the point og including it in the 2D ones.

There was a Wheezer track in there? Oh god.

Also 5 zones rather than 7... disappoint. 8( That's the least zones out of all of them.

Can anyone tell me what the iPhone release date was? Oh July, never mind. XD Wil probably be playing this when I'm in Sweden for the summer!

For you, maybe, but for me, it looked both lazy and incredibly jarring.

Better than Sonic Rush's awful slow-down animation. God that thing sucked.

Comes after Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles and involves Sonic exploring after defeating Eggman?

Could possibly be the 'journey' Sonic took that was referenced to have taken place just before Sonic Adventure. Might explain the Homing Attack.

I for one am happy in a weird way that it's still lean and green Sonic sans the buckles. I had a strange worry about him being the old chubby short black-eyes Sonic because I just don't like that design anywhere near as much as the current.

Oh, and the very short footage looked incredible :D

Since the trailer had those bat badniks with the lightbulbs on, do you reckon we'll get a dark level like Mystic Cave Zone?
