Sure they are--they just live in the other world.

We both know that doesn't work at all with the games from Adventure to 06. Unless you're telling me some Echidnas with Medieval Era techology were capable of dimensional/intergalatic travel, Gerald made his ultimate lifeform a hedgehog just for the laughs, and Silver moved onto another planet in the future.

There is no canon. Everything is canon, and nothing is. Just because we don't see them doesn't mean they're not there. Besides.. two worlds.

GUN is just an artifact of the Adventure era. An era that Team Iizuka seem to be trying leave behind outside of fanservice. Sonic Unleashed didn't have any sign of GUN and it was obviously a sorta reboot.

The newest BumbleKast?

Yes, by the way, I've been accepted in the new group and I've been asking when we will hear some news. But I think the fact that the group has opened, means "soon"? I hope so.

Edit: They said this month.

haven't been in this topic for a bit. had to jump 30 something pages, I'm sure I missed nothing important.

Soo. this is a thing now, for those who have Facebook and would like to join:

Apparently new art, info and sneak-peaks will be shared there.

Good! Something that I wished Archie Sonic had. all they ever did was solicts via FB/Twitter but never a dedicated FB group to their comics. I'll join it, make some use of my FB account.

Yeah, she was explicitly gathering information on the Shadow Project in exchange for jewels, while simultaneous playing along with Eggman and trying to get her hands on all of the Master Emerald pieces.

Shadow: "You're that government spy Rouge the Bat!"

Kind of indicates that game Rouge has a storied history with GUN from the get go.

Or, there is a World with humans and animals and one that’s only human. Or Dreamcast world has both animals and humans together, with classic being only animals and modern having one world each.

I bet she had to work with them to avoid a lifetime in prison. She maybe stole confidential documents or something.

Kind of like in Sonic X. That would make sense. I have a theory that maybe she was 14 when she tried to pull a big heist, but she was caught by GUN. Rather than have her rot in prison (especially at a young age) the organization decided to bring her in so they could use her stealth for missions.

She probably paid her debt to GUN already, but she stuck around. Working with GUN gave her a proper wage. That said, she stole to order in her early years; her client from back then is still looking for her.

That's kind of my theory. I also think she had a bad childhood. To quote Burn Notice: "As a rule, spies don't come from happy homes. A rough childhood is the perfect background for covert operations. You don't trust anyone, you're used to getting smacked around, and you never get homesick."

I still want a Burn Notice styled arc around Team Dark. Basically, Chaotix Shenanigans with Team Dark instead, and lots of dry humor.

And how would Shadow have that found that out when he was sealed away for 50 years and went right to the Ark after being freed? Also, bad dubbing.

We had signs of humanity besides Doctor Eggman in the Classic games too (faces in Marble Hill Zone, angel statue in Wacky Workbence, hieroglyphics in Sandoplis).

I never really understood the context that line.

"Now I know who you are! You're that government spy Rouge the Bat, aren't you?"

Okay, first of all, THAT government spy? What, is Shadow one of those people who listen to the <strike>police</strike> government spy scanner?

Second, is there another Rouge the Bat flying around that isn't a government spy?

And three, why would he even know her specifically, especially given that she's 17 and he was in stasis for over 50 years?

Was going to mention that myself. It's pretty impressive to pull off undercover work when your reputation includes "the Bat" and you're the only bat in town. xD

It's bad dubbing. Watch Windii's sub, Shadow's words show he caught her in the act and called her a spy.

Alright...

"You're the federal government president's specialist agent. Rouge the Bat".

Am I missing anything? Because I'm alright with this amendment.

Like I said, not a GUN member or even reporting to them as opposed to the federal government's current administration. A 3rd Party. It'd go in line with how she had to fight Flying Dog since the garrison on Prison Island wouldn't know about her. Might have been playing both sides too.

That's pretty much it seemed to be. Like, I know she was mainly just ridin Eggman's nuts for the sake of ruse(which I don't think Eggman actually fell for), but there's something kinda off about she essentially helped blow up what could've been hundreds of people(if they weren't evacuated in time ) and became a friggin terrorist by proxy.

Ignoring later games, I support speculation that Rouge was playing both sides. She worked for the UF's government to get cash/jewelry as a reward for investigating Eggman, until she ended up on Ark where she got in with him then she was playing along with him while also getting a taste for the havoc they were wreaking on the world. She didn't just take the Chaos Emeralds and run while Eggman and Shadow were busy since she was waiting to see who came out on top. Team Hero wins she heads back to Earth where she gets her paycheck then heads home, Team Dark wins she pledges an oath of allegiance to Eggman and brushes off her spying as just business. Gerald's revenge threw a wrench into that plan.

Burn Notice styled arc for Team Dark sounds like a rather cool idea to me.

There are some pretty good parallels between Team Dark and the main cast of Burn Notice, too. Shadow and Michael are the serious, dry-humored team lead. Rouge and Fiona are the sassy, flirty, morally ambiguous female counterpart to the lead and have an extensive history together, though Omega matches Fiona's thirst for violence much more closely. Omega and Sam are the lead's wisecracking buddy (Omega less so).

I'd like to see the Freedom Fighters repurposed. Sally, Rotor, Antoine, Bunnie, and Nicole are great characters that can exist without being a team always trying to overthrow a dictator (which is fine in and of itself, but the characters are capable of being more than that). I think they'd work great among Sonic's tertiary cast along with the likes of Team Dark, the Chaotix, the Hooligans, Mighty and Ray, Big, Blaze and Marine, Silver etc. I think they've served their purpose as Sonic's immediate supporting cast though, sure.

If characters like Shadow, Blaze, and Silver can continue existing in the games after having "served their original purpose," then I don't see why the Freedom Fighters can't either.

Honestly most of them probably shouldn't have, though.

The way the series has handled its characters has really not been good, for its storytelling overall or for the individual characters. I'm hoping IDW can keep the focus on the characters they need for the story they want to tell and not just drop in a bunch of characters to satisfy fans.

IDW has Ian Flynn as head writer—there’s a whole huge list of reasons why fans go so far as to say he’s the best writer in the whole franchise and one of those many reasons is that he doesn’t drop a bunch of characters just to please fans.

So that isn’t even something to worry about with him onboard.

That said, there’s no such thing as “serving their purpose” like they can’t do anything else—that is little more than the usual dog whistle of complaining about characters one doesn’t like than anything substantial, and everyone knows it at this point.

I rather the Freedom Fighters be retired... They served their purpose long ago. They aren't needed anymore.

By what metric?

And no, “I don’t care about them” isn’t a valid reason.

If anything, the abrupt end to the FF's post-reboot incarnations means they haven't served their purpose.
