Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire [3DS Hoenn Remake, November 2014]

Kris' replacement was silly but I imagine GameFreak figured her design didn't fit with the colour coding of the Gold and Silver duo.

I am worried about Brendan and May though, they're easily my favourite protag duo in the whole franchise.

So what if OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire seem like remakes at first and everything is the same except characters occasionally have faint memories of deja vu, and towards the end of the game after the gen3 trio has settled down, they realize that they've been re-living the exact same events as in Ruby/Sapphire and somehow space and time had been altered, and rather than challenge the Elite Four as usual the protagonists embark on a last quest to take down Cyrus, the true villain of the game who once again is trying to take advantage of Dialga and Palkia for his own means, and Team Aqua and Magma join forces with you to do battle with Team Galactic

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire are in fact sequels to the original games and Diamond/Pearl and will also set up gen4 remakes at the very end, mark my words

That made way more sense in my head than in this post

I'm hoping that these remakes will also retain the ability from X & Y  to choose different skin tones for the characters.

So there's a preview very soon? Yay, can't wait! ^^

And I'm really looking forward to seeing the new art for the Pokemon and human characters! Sugimori's art has changed so much over the years, it's going to be interesting to see what May and Brendan look like.

I'm just prepared for the cavalcade of SatoHaru and HaruShuu fanart that will inevitably arrive once May's new design is shown.

New art is always great. Especially since it's nice to see how characters look as the artists' style changes. (That is if Sugimori even does the humans now.)

It makes me wonder. The game developers have to be aware of the whole "is a hat or hair" debate, so will Brendan's hat be changed to something less...ambiguous?

Personally I suggest they make it so that Brendan puts a second hat over his usual one.

Good point I saw on Tumblr is that Corocoro may leak this weekend and show off the designs of the two protagonists in this game. To recap:

  • May 2006: Leaked on May 11th, showed off Lucas & Dawn
  • May 2009: Leaked on May 12th, showed off Kris and Ethan
  • May 2010: Leaked on May 12th, showed off Hilbert and Hilda
  • May 2012: Leaked on May 12th, showed off Rosa, Nate and Hugh
  • May 2013: Leaked on May 11th, showed off Serena and Calem

So hopefully, one way or another we're getting some info today.

...jeez, you'd think they'd learn after like, the third time.

Not that I'm complaining, I'd love to see the designs ASAP...but we'll probably see 'em when we get that footage, which isn't that long of a wait anyway. :P

I know they swapped out Kris for Lyra in HGSS, but I always thought that a fair few elements of Kris's design survived in Lyra's - just comparing the two now, there's hairstyle, red top, shorts... I took Lyra as an extreme redesign rather than a total replacement.  As for Brendan, I'm sure they'll acknowledge the hat thing.

Personally, I suspect there'll be less character customisation than in XY, as it's arguably kind of a Kalos thing.  But there should be some.

Oh boy, i guess the meme of Hoenn Confirmed just changed name with Sinnoh, didn't it?

...To take this statement more seriously than it was intended, "Hoenn confirmed" became a joke because FRLG and HGSS seemed to establish a "pattern" of there being a remake in every generation, but then there was no remake in Gen V.  However, ORAS have now established a new "pattern" of one remake per handheld console, or possibly a remake roughly ten years after the original game trio, or maybe even five years after the previous remake.  Chrono Diamond and Spatia Pearl in 2019, then?  (Or at least, "Sinnoh confirmed" isn't allowed to become a meme until then...)

Just get rid of Ruby & Sapphire. They're the lamest playable trainers in the games. =P

Not that it matters since you can just customize them... >_> You better give me the ability to take off my hat, get a decent hair cut and get more clothes, Nintendo.

Sometimes companies leak info on purpose because it adds to hype.. not saying that's what's happening here, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Yesterday I had a bunch of thoughts about what Gen3 meant to me actually. Not only was it one of the first gens where I really gave it my all and tried to do everything and really learn the ins and outs of the game, but the region just felt really mysterious. You know that kind of mysterious where you feel like there should be a secret in this mysterious looking spot but there isn't one?? The white rock near the space station, the gigantic dive spot on Route 132, probably some other things too. I was thinking that I'll probably be really disappointed if we don't get tons of new secrets and maybe even flesh out the importance of those old curious things that always seemed like they should be important but weren't.. imagine finding a way into that huge dive spot and it leading to some kind of secret dungeon with Pokémon or legies from other Gens in it?? Or something.

I also seriously hope that there's plenty of content pertaining to Jirachi and Deoxys. HGSS didn't skimp on the awesome events for rare Pokémon, the Celebi event was especially memorable for the character development it gave Giovanni and Silver. The thing is.. since gen4, the amount of ingame events like that have dropped considerably. Gen5's events were short dialogues that unlock a move or forme or whatever, and Gen6's events look to be the same. The only event of any real interest we've had since Gen4 is the Victini one, which makes me worry that not only will Jirachi and Deoxys get very little in the way of additional lore, but we won't even be able to battle Deoxys on triangle island. And that worry really kills my hype :((

PS. Sinnoh Confirmed is gonna be a meme way sooner than 2019 I'd think..

It's also weird because with the advent of DLC, you think Nintendo/GameFreak could take advantage of it and making periodic event updates via E-Shop (either free or paid).

As for my experience with Gen III: as i said, Sapphire was my first Pokémon game ever (and my second GBA game ever), and it was quite a ride, creating a nostalgic bond with me and making me remember almost only the positive aspects. I took then Emerald when it came out and it was even better in terms of story, content and especially post-game stuff (although it was almost battle-only and with only a few new Pokémons to catch).

I agree with the whole aura of mistery, both in the lore and in the actual story: it keeps things interesting the more you explore.

Of course, there are things i didn't liked (example: the last battle with you rival is disappointing and pales in comparison to the one with Wally or with the champion) but it was a really fun and exciting game, and that's probably the main reason i'm hyped up for these remakes.

I'll admit, up until I read the manga, I always thought that Ruby(and boy could he be quite pretentious in the manga)'s hat was his hair.

Didn't they change the in-game events partly for reasons to do with hacking?  If you can use hacking to enable an in-game event that contains a new Pokemon, the Pokemon counts as legitimate and can be traded and generally the secret gets out, but if you have to hack the Pokemon itself into the game, the game doesn't recognise it as legitimate and so it can't be used as a legitimate Pokemon.  I'm no expert, but I think it's something like that.  Which is incredibly boring as the in-game events gave depth to these mysterious legendary Pokemon, whereas now you get these unique myth Pokemon from some guy in a shop.

I dunno, Gen 4 had a pretty large postgame with the Regigigas crap, Battle Island, the little pennensula that branches off from Victory Road, FUCKING CONTESTS for the love of god bring those back.

I can't speak for Gen 5 since I don't give enough of a shit to beat them, but I think Gen 4 had a fine post-game.

The postgame content generally come with the expansion versions; all of the initial versions generally have weak post-game content.

I hope they bring back the Battle Frontier honestly, its been two generations too long without it.

Yeah Gen4's post-game was generally amazing and all the legie Events were really good too.

I'm worried because compared to Gen4's post-game and legie events, Gen5 and 6 have been disappointing.

Yeah I think it's to do with that, which is why I'm so confused that the ingame events for Gen6 seem so.. bare bones so far. The 3DS isn't easily hackable, people have already found the new legies but they haven't done much with them so I'd hoped that Nintendo would bring back events like that..

I just wanna catch Deoxys on Birth Island in an event man T_T
