Huh, sounds like the past few games have been rushjobs though, so I'll hold judgement on this. Fire Red and Leaf Green had strong post game content compared to their vanilla versions. Not sure about HG/SS since the latest Pokemon game I have bought was Platinum

The reason we call them Brendan and May is because they are their official names, like Red and Blue. When you decide to make the male your rival he is auto-named "Brendan", while the female is "May".

5 and 6 don't have safari zone or casinos at all. not even contests.

 

It's going to be really shitty if they remove the latter 2 for these remakes.

 

...I literally never noticed before that Unova and Kalos don't have Safari Zones.  Wow.  Thing is, I actually like the Safari Zones if they're used as a special location for exotic Pokemon that don't really fit in the wild, at least not in the general climate of the region...

Oh yeah. Ever since Platinum Pokemon hasn't had casinos. Hell the casino from G/S/C was changed completely in HG/SS into some kind of Poké minefield thing. Stupid soccer moms...

 

As I understand it, it's not so much "soccer moms" as "EU laws on fictional representations of gambling and the concomitant increased age ratings given to works which so include them."

May is bland as fuck. My least favorite Pokemon player character. If anything, she should be replaced rather than Kris. Brendan has that spice that no other poke-protag has (the hat-hair)

Deep in your mind to know it to be true. I don't take part in this creepy "waifu" culture, but I recommend atleast making the best female protag, Dawn, your waifu rather than the obsolete May.

Well, yknow they do tend to redesign the characters for the remakes. Red and Ethan were both really refined and made more lean/tall. So you might get a redesigned "tropical" hair-hat after all

The Pokenav can easily get a touch-screen friendly interface now that I realized it.

 

They better fix the shit out of it then. The Pokenav was so shit to use back then. Even as a child I didn't want to mess with it, too bad the only way to use the map is to launch it from there. A bottom screen Pokenav could work crazy well though. How does the bottom screen function in HG/SS anyway?

I hope you can use the PokeNav's map on the bottom screen to track roaming Pokemon. I recall being able to do that in Diamond.

The touch-screen function in HGSS was your menu (as well as using the PokeGear), and it damn-near did everything for you without ever having to press Start/Y. (is it Y to open up the menu again? I forgot).

 

We didn't even have to hold down B to run; one tap and boom: Endless Running.

As of XY you have the roller skates anyway, so it's not really necessary.

You know the ship in Vermillion that took you to islands 1-3? After beating the E4 you get a rainbow pass that takes you to six other islands. Basically it's just Red and Blue clearing out remaining Team Rocket sub units or something to that effect. You also get to breed at that point.

 

Red also collects a ruby and sapphire, allowing you to connect to the Hoenn games.

After capturing at least 60 Pokemon in the Pokedex, Oak gives you the Rainbow Pass, which grants you access to the rest of the Sevii Islands. That also opens up a post-game subplot; to retrieve the Ruby and Sapphire, which are required to trade with the gemstones' namesakes, Colosseum, Gale of Darkness and Emerald. Along the way you battle with a straggling Team Rocket branch (which are heavily implied to be the same group that plots the events of the Johto-based games three years later). as they are unaware Giovanni 'disbanded' the team after you defeat him in the final Gym Battle.
