I suggested that the deadly Six could be personifications of the negative power of the emeralds, but I guess we'll see.

 

The theory is that Sonic Team watched the last story arc of Dragon Ball GT and brought it into this game? Wonder what the Sonic equivalent of Sin/Omega Shenlong would look like?

Maybe there'll be a shop mechanic with upgrades and such, like in Generations.

Ooo, that reminds me, I really do hope we see the skills again. I really liked that system in Generations. I'd love to see more "wacky" ones, like turning enemies into Rings.

We’re excited to announce details of the next Sonic the Hedgehog game! Sonic Lost World will be published on Nintendo platforms as part of the exclusive partnership recently announced between the two companies.  Sonic Lost World puts Sonic up to the challenge as he faces his most powerful enemy to date – and this time there are six of them to conquer!  Sonic Lost World will be available exclusively for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS platforms later this year.

 
 
Dr. Eggman has harnessed the power of six menacing creatures collectively known as the Deadly Six, but when the Deadly Six rise up against their master, Sonic has to unite with his arch nemesis in order to take on the new enemies head-on.  Using his dynamic new parkour moves and improved Color Powers, Sonic must run, jump and race through a variety of ever-changing terrains in order to defeat the Deadly Six.
 
 
Alongside a single player adventure, the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of Sonic Lost World will feature a range of competitive multiplayer modes. In addition, each platform will also contain distinctive features that take advantage of the consoles’ unique capabilities.  Exclusive Wii U Color Powers can be controlled with the Wii U GamePad by tilting, touching, aiming and more.  The full game can also be played using only the GamePad screen and will feature a two player support mode. Sonic Lost World for the Nintendo 3DS is the first handheld Sonic game ever to feature fully realized 3D levels which include exclusive Special Stages and Color Powers unique to Nintendo 3DS.

So apparently Tails' role will be building gadgets to help Sonic, and you can trade gadgets between WiiU and 3DS.

No Eggman final boss? :( Oh well. Hopefully The Deadly Six will be fun bosses. I also hope the multiplayer will be fun and not tacked on. I'm also disappointed that Special Stages look to be handheld exclusive again :(

This better be FUCKING good enough for me to not mind it, because you still have a long way to go in making Eggman the main top foe again after having him sidelined for years before Colors.

We don't know if Eggman's the final boss or not- wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing is a riff on the traditional Eggman formula, having the enemies be someone else only for him at the end to snatch up the role as opposed to the opposite

It's not like this is the first time it's happened, Heroes, Chronicles and the finales of SA1, SA2, SAdvance 3, and 06 all had the same premise. Expect a "surprise" twist that Eggman planned the whole thing otherwise.

Not necessarily.  Knowing Eggman he might pull a fast one at the end.  It's hardly unlike him.
