Blame It On The Rain: Brett Ratner To Do Milli Vanilli Biopic?

"Girl you know it's true -- oh, oh, ohhhh, Brett Ratner loves you-uu."

Here's one of those "sounds so made-up that it has to be true" bits of news. Director, Brett Ratner is in talks to direct a biopic about disgraced late 80's R&B act, Milli Vanilli. Ratner will apparently work with his Rush Hour 2 & 3 screenwriter, Jeff Nathanson, and surviving Milli Vanilli member, Fab Morvan will be on board to exec produce. (Was he "Milli" or Vanilli?")

To those who were either too young or living under a rock, Milli Vanilli pretty much ruled the music world throughout most of 1989, and their success culminated in a 1990 Grammy win. Then, of course, their lip-syncing was exposed, and they were stripped of their Grammies, essentially ending their credibility and marketability as a musical act. Afterwards, in 1998, Rob Pilatus, the other half of Milli Vanilli was found dead from a drug overdose.

Seriously, is there ANYTHING to add here? Unless Milli Vanilli will be fighting Mutants and Triads on rooftops with intricately-choreographed acrobatics, while making "asian people are so uptight" jokes, then there is no apparent reason why Ratner would want this film. (Maybe he's just a fan?)

I do find it an odd coincidence that we would get "Milli Vanilli news" after last night's American Idol, which had the final 7 doing a blatantly lip-synced group disco performance. Perhaps, we, as a society are coming to terms with lip-syncing as an acceptable practice. Perhaps Ratner simply wants to make a film about a group who sacrificed their reputation back then, so that corporate-manufactured teen pop acts can do it today without fear of persecution!

Come out of the shadows, lip-syncers! We accept you! **Goes off to play "Pieces of Me."**

A bad movie idea being created by a bad director, what a combination!

Rodriguez to Reboot Predator

In a news conference in Texas today, director Robert Rodriguez has announced that he will remake the film Predator, calling his film Predators.

Not only is Rodriguez set to produce it under his banner Troublemaker Studios, but he will also direct it.

Rodriguez said, "I'm going to be able to shoot my upcoming Machete here, a sci-fi action film called Nervewrackers, a re-boot of the Predator series called Predators, and a couple of smaller movies called Sin City 2 and The Jetsons."

Another day, another reboot....crap. Also, live-action Jetsons? I bet it'll be as unmemorable/bad as The Flintstones live action movies.

Woah a live action Jetsons? That is sickening. I'll admit I liked the Live Action Flintstones films when I was 5.... not any more. They just seemed poor and recycled. I assume this will get the same feeling from it. Poor, poor Jetsons they don't deserve this fate.

Remake Predator?! WHY?! Jesus why do you hate us so much to give us unoriginal writers?! Bring back the Apostles at least they could tell a good story. XD

30 Days of Night Sequel Coming Soon; May Be Direct to DVD

MTV sat down with 30 Days of Night scriptwriter Steve Niles who confirmed that a screenplay for a sequel has already been completed.

The movie sequel will be based on the sequel to the original 30 Days of Night comic book, a story titled “Dark Days.”

In “Dark Days,” the character of Stella Olemaun (played by Melissa George) heads to Los Angeles after surviving the vampire attack in Barrow, Alaska. She intentionally attracts the attention of the local vampire population in order to avenge the death of her husband, Eben (played by Josh Hartnett), during the Barrow incident.

Niles said that the original film’s box-office earnings of $70 million made the direct-to-DVD route likely for the sequel, but after receiving some words of support from 30 Days of Night producer Sam Raimi, he’s perfectly fine with following that path: “We didn’t hit that magic $100 million, but I had a long talk with Sam. He called me and just said, ‘Don’t be too quick to judge this direct-to-DVD market, especially with the sci-fi market.’”

Bioshock Put on Hold

Variety reports that Universal Pictures has put the brakes on Gore Verbinski's Bioshock.

The picture was in pre-production, but the studio has halted that effort and let some production staff go as Universal and Verbinski figure out a way to make the film at a more reasonable budget.

Verbinski says, "We were asked by Universal to move the film outside the U.S. to take advantage of a tax credit. We are evaluating whether this is something we want to do. In the meantime, the film is in a holding pattern."

The filmmaker recently passed on directing a fourth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean so that he could direct Bioshock and produce under his Blind Wink banner.

They better do it right! If not, I'll not be surprised, it's Hollywood after all.

Caine Joins the Cast of Inception

Coming Soon reports that Michael Caine will have a role in Christopher Nolan's Inception.

Inception currently has a July 16th, 2010 release and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy, Ellen Page and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Bea Arthur Dead at 86

CNN reports that Beatrice "Bea" Arthur, the actress best known for her roles as television's "Maude" and Dorothy on "The Golden Girls", has died of cancer at age 86.

Spokesman Dan Watt said that Arthur died Saturday morning at her home in Los Angeles, her family by her side.

Her first television appearance came in 1951 in a long-forgotten series called "Once Upon a Tune", but she quickly made a name for herself with appearances on "Studio One", "Kraft Television Theatre" and "The Sid Caesar Show".

The character that brought Arthur into the spotlight, Maude, first appeared on "All in the Family" as Edith Bunker's cousin, and was so popular that Lear created a spin-off series.

In the '70s, "Maude" was ahead of the social curve, tackling hot topics not usually mentioned on situation comedies -- pornography, race relations and, in an episode titled "Maude's Dilemma," abortion.

Arthur left "Maude" in 1978, making television and some film appearances afterward. She starred in a short-lived series, "Amanda's," in 1983 and then joined the cast of "The Golden Girls" in 1985 with Betty White, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty.

Arthur entered semi-retirement after the show ended in 1992, returning to television in sporadic guest appearances and appearing at several celebrity roasts. In the early part of this decade, Arthur appeared in several one-woman shows.

Arthur also drew attention on-stage in "Threepenny Opera" on Broadway with Lotte Lenya, but she really turned heads in 1964 originating the role of Yente the Matchmaker in "Fiddler on the Roof."

In 1966, Arthur won a Tony Award for the caustic Vera Charles in the play "Mame," playing opposite Angela Lansbury in the title role. Eight years later, she reprised the role in the film version opposite Lucille Ball, but by then she was already well-established as Maude.

Our thoughts are with her friends and family.

She will be truly missed.

I don't like Efron. And I am sick of re-makes. I know that Hollywood only makes re-makes because it's safe, there's very little risk involved. But seriously! I want someone to pop up, take a chance on an un-known and make something awesome!

Interesting premise. Sounds like something in the 80's.

Bale Talks About Third Batman Movie

Total Film sat down with actor Christian Bale and asked him about the highly anticipated follow-up to The Dark Knight.

Bale said:

"Will we do a third movie? It's got to be the right story. You can't make something like The Dark Knight and then come out with something disappointing...I would like it if people say, 'You'll never make a good third movie.' I say, 'OK, let's make a third movie in that case, let's prove them wrong. But that's just me. The fact is, I have to! I've signed up! Chris [Nolan] doesn't. So I'm in a bit of a fix if he says he doesn't want to!"

Stone's Wall Street to Get Sequel

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oliver Stone and Michael Douglas have moved forward with a sequel to their 1987 film Wall Street.

Douglas is set to star once again with Shia LaBeouf in talks to take on the younger role.

Wall Street 2, which was written by Allan Loeb, will pick up with corporate raider Gordon Gekko, the character that won Douglas an Oscar more than 20 years ago, once again looming over a younger upstart looking to navigate the shark-tank world of today's Wall Street.

At least, it isn't a remake, but still seems unnecessary.

Rodriguez Shares More Information About Predators

Quint from AICN recently asked filmmaker Robert Rodriguez about his upcoming reboot of the Predator series, called Predators.

Rodriguez said, "With a nod toward [James] Cameron's Aliens I decided to call it Predators. I set it on a jungle-like Predator planet."

Fox, who is co-producing the picture along with Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios, plans to hire a new writer and director, but Rodriguez still plans to be as involved as possible so he "can feel free to walk to the Predators soundstage, pick up a camera and co-shoot the coolest scenes."

The filmmaker also said what he plans to do with the franchise:

"What I'd like to do with it is expand on ideas I dreamt up back in the original treatment, that had really expanded on the universe both the Predators and other species live in. We'd create new otherworldly characters while not taking away from the draw our main Predator has. I think another reason I called it Predators was to mark it as a project that should be taken seriously by a filmmaker to make a worthy follow up to a classic, much in the way Cameron made Aliens a compelling work on its own, following Ridley Scott's Alien."

Willis In Talks for 3 Action Flicks

In Inventory, Willis would play a detective on the trail of a murderer.

In Red, Willis would portray a former black-ops agent who has gone into retirement but is forced back into action when a high-tech assassin threatens him and his girlfriend. Erich and Jon Hoeber are writing the screenplay, which is based on the WildStorm/DC Comic.

In Scarpa, a mob biopic directed by Tears of the Sun helmer Antoine Fuqua, Willis would play the title character, Greg Scarpa, who is an FBI informant who worked deeply undercover in New York’s Columbo family.

Wilson and Gordon-Levitt Join Indie Dramedy

The story centers on a loser 20-something who invades the life of an awkward 13-year-old who is living with a pill-popping father and grandmother.

Gordon-Levitt is playing the title character, a good and bad influence on the boy's life. Wilson is the dad trying to keep his family together after the death of his wife.

Portman, who is co-producing the film, plays a supermarket worker for whom the kid falls for after she saves him from a bully.

Hesher begins shooting next week in Los Angeles.

Reynolds Shares His Hopes for a Deadpool Movie

MTV recently sat down with X-Men Origins: Wolverine co-star Ryan Reynolds and asked him how he felt about doing a spin-off film on his character Deadpool.

Reynolds joked, “I’m thinking musical — Rated ‘R’ musical. It hasn’t been done. Deadpool singing, dancing…dancing girls…”

Putting all jokes aside, Reynolds does think the movie is possible, but only if the right people are involved:

“Is it a fractured narrative, does it take place in the present, future and past — I feel like that’s the way to do a ‘Deadpool’ movie. You definitely have to break the fourth wall and you have to find a way to make that make sense, which is no small feat. So it would involve a really talented writer, an amazing visionary director and I think a great collaboration between everybody passionate about this character.”

In addition to a great team, Reynolds added that he has no interest in making a spin-off film unless the entire creative team is on board with making a very faithful adaptation of the character:

“I’ve made no secret about my desire to do a ‘Deadpool’ movie, but if you’re going to do it, it would have to be 100% faithful to its origins. To stay as true to the source material as possible is the only way to do it, and I say that because there’s nothing more interesting than the source material for Deadpool. There’s no reason to deviate from that.”

Zemeckis to Revamp Roger Rabbit

MTV caught up with director Robert Zemeckis, who revealed quite a shock by announcing his possible next project.

Zemeckis said, "I'll tell you what is buzzing around in my head now that we have the ability—the digital tools, performance capture—I'm starting to think about [Who Framed] Roger Rabbit."

See him say it for yourself by watching the video below:

Oh crap. So they're remaking it with CGI effects? That will just tarnish the value of the original. The 2D was high quality and awesome, CGI will possibly make it into a fugly mess. I suggest a sequel with the same animation techniques as the first.

Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp's District 9 Teaser Trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjIwHUCks6M

I think this looks really good, it's essentially Peter Jackson's way of proving to the world that he can 'do' science fiction and it's probably the least outlandish sci-fi film of the past couple of decades, certainly since E.T. and Close Encounters. I do like the way the alien ship isn't hovering over New York or London, for example, that Cape Town (or another city in South Africa) is playing host to it. Hopefully it won't end up disapppointing.

Iron Man 2 Pic

Tony Stark is out of the superhero closet, and it's no picnic.

The sequel to last summer's blockbuster, which began shooting three weeks ago and opens May 7, 2010, takes place six months after Stark revealed his identity as Iron Man, says director Jon Favreau. And the development is playing out with unexpected results. "How many superheroes are open about their true identities?" he asks. "We wanted to play with that idea. But it obviously has consequences — in his relationships, on the team. There are a lot of areas we can explore."

He hopes to have all other Iron Man 2 details locked down — even though he's sending dispatches via Twitter from the set. "It's never easy with summer movies, but we're trying to keep as much a surprise as possible," he says.

That means no new dirt on replacing Terrence Howard with Don Cheadle, or how the crime-fighting team S.H.I.E.L.D. will ultimately come together. Or how he'll work in new characters. Among those signed on for this go-round are Mickey Rourke as Whiplash, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer.

Favreau says that tackling the franchise a second time is easier because he knows the landscape. Something else would help, too: "I really enjoyed when we were a dark horse and no one knew much about us. ... I hope we can find that place again."

Warner Bros to ruin Death Note

Warner Bros. has acquired rights to turn the Japanese manga series "Death Note" into a live-action film.

Studio has hired screenwriters Charley and Vlas Parlapanides to adapt.

Story centers on a college student who accidentally finds a misplaced "death note," infusing him with the power to kill merely by writing anyone's name on the page while picturing the person in his mind.

The 13-volume manga is a bestseller in Japan, and the film will be drawn from the first three installments, written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata for Shueisha Inc.

Warner Bros. Pictures Japan made three Japanese-language "Death Note" films. The new pic will be drawn from the manga, not the previous movies.

Vertigo's Roy Lee and Doug Davison will produce with Dan Lin's Lin Pictures and Brian Witten.

The scribes wrote "War of the Gods" for Relativity Media and "Live Bet" for Universal. ends

Jim Carrey In Talks for The Beaver

First Showing reports that actor Jim Carrey is in negotiations to take the lead role in The Beaver.

The Beaver is about a guy who walks around with a beaver puppet on his hand, treating it as something close to a human creature with human feelings.

Previously, Steve Carell was in talks to play the lead role with Jay Roach directing.

Those familiar with the situation say Carrey really likes the script and producers really like him for the role, though any casting would be dependent on who comes on to direct in the end.

The script, written by newcomer Kyle Killen, has been drawing comparisons to Being John Malkovich and Lars and the Real Girl.

About the DN movie, it was somewhat discussed in the anime/manga topic recently. Though agree that actor for Light seems stupid, even though Zac actually resembles him a bit. Yet Johnny Depp could make a good L.

Still, this sounds like a bad idea.

Now I hate everything that is HSM related including Disney(I tolerate Kingdom Hearts), but Zac Effron may actually pull this off. I hate the bastard, but he actually asked about doing the role. How does he even know of the role unless he weren't already a fan of or even aware of the series? Light was also a ladies' man so who else can pull it off and still fit the age? Now sure, he may have that dreadful cheery Mickey Mouse club of the new generation image, but many actors that weren't taken seriously at first because of their apparently goofy image became super successful(Eddie Murphy, Jim Carey, Jamie Fox, and Heath Ledger). So I will give the man a chance and tell a fangirl of his that I know that my whole opinion of him hinges on this possible movie.
