Chris Morris Unleashes Four Lions

chris-morris.jpg

"Terrorism is about ideology," says Morris, "...but it's also about berks"

Film4 has gone where many others have feared to tread and funded Four Lions, Chris Morris' satirical and no doubt incendiary take on Islamic terrorism in the UK.

Morris, the satirical genius behind Brass Eye, Blue Juice and The Day Today and a man who once persuaded Phil Collins to appear on telly in a T-shirt with 'Nonce Sense' emblazoned on the front, is promising to show "the Dad's Army side of terrorism" with a script that follows the path of four teenage Muslims into indoctrinated jihadis.

Peter O'Hanraha-hanrahan Deirdre Steed, who helped secure funding to cover its £4 million budget, describes Four Lions as "a funny, thrilling fictional story that illuminates modern British jihad with an insight beyond anything else in our culture. As Spinal Tap understood heavy metal and Dr. Strangelove the Cold War, Four Lions understands modern British jihadis."

The shoot for Four Lions is scheduled to start this summer, with indie Warp Films producing.

Do want. Morris is a comic genius and this sounds excellent.

I am NOT a fan of anyone who has been cast in the new Sherlock Holmes film and I am not liking this whole "modernise his outfit" thing they have going on. However, I will try to refrain from being too big of a fan girl for Holmes and wait and see how it pans out.

If it is crap the casting crew can prepare to face my horribly fangirly wrath.

You sir, have caught my attention.

Chris Morris a satirical genius. Can't wait to see the media go nuts over this one, once again failing to see their own irony.

Writers Selected for Nick Ratchet

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Douglas Cook and David Weisberg have been tapped to pen Nick Ratchet, one of Stan Lee's POW Entertainment projects.

The lighthearted mystery thriller centers on a Jekyll & Hyde struggle between a meek, ineffectual police officer and his online alter-ego, a tough avatar cop named Nick Ratchet who emerges from inside a video game to usurp the life of his creator.

Richard LaGravenese is attached to direct.

Braff to Rewrite, Direct, and Co-Star in Swingles

Variety reports that actor Zach Braff is in negotiations to direct, rewrite and co-star in the comedy Swingles for Paramount Pictures.

Cameron Diaz has already signed on to star.

Swingles, which is based on a Duncan Birmingham draft, centers on a bachelor who is dumped by his wingman and teams up with a sharp-tongued woman he can't stand in order to meet singles.

Swingles will be Braff's second directed film, after 2004's Garden State.

Huge MEH.

Dawson Signs on to The Zookeeper

According to Variety, actress Rosario Dawson will star opposite Kevin James in romantic comedy The Zookeeper.

The Zookeeper centers on zoo animals trying to teach the keeper their methods of dating and mating to help him win back the woman of his dreams.

Leslie Bibb has also been signed to co-star.

Frank Coraci is directing from a screenplay by Scot Armstrong, Jay Scherick and David Ronn.

The Zookeeper will begin production in late summer in Boston with a July 23rd, 2010, release date.

Mating? So is there going to be some Dr. Dolittle-ish bestiality or animal porn? Eh, don't want to think about it right now.

Bruno Trailer Debut

Eh, IMO, looks like a queer version of Borat, didn't find it hilarious that much.

4 New Half-Blood Prince TV Spots!

Summer Epicness.

Fonseca Joins Hot Tub Time Machine

The Hollywood Reporter says that "Big Love" and "How I Met Your Mother" actress Lyndsy Fonseca has joined the cast of United Artists comedy Hot Tub Time Machine.

Fonseca will play Jenny, the girlfriend that slipped away from John Cusack's character in 1987 whom he revisits when he and some friends accidentally travel back in time via their Jacuzzi.

The film, directed by Steve Pink, also stars Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, Clark Duke, Lizzy Caplan, Crispin Glover, Sebastian Stan and Charlie McDermott.

Hot Tub Time Machine, which is now shooting in Vancouver, is scheduled to hit theaters on February 26th, 2010.

A hot tub time machine? I would have shoot for a time traveling port-a-potty instead.

Bazooka Joe Hitting the Big Screen

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Eisner's Tornante Co. has hired upcoming screenwriter Mark Hammer to pen a feature adaptation of Bazooka Joe.

Hammer, who is graduating from Orange County's Chapman University with a degree in film, wrote a script titled "Sonny Takes to Peru," which made the studio rounds but ultimately did not sell. However, when execs at Tornante were seeking to fill their open writing assignment, they read his script and liked it so much they hired him.

Bazooka Joe has been a comic strip used as an advertising device for the gum since the 1950s. Joe, who wears an eye patch for reasons never explained, has child-friendly misadventures, sometime joined by a host of friends with the names Pesty, Mort (always with a turtleneck sweater pulled up over his mouth), Toughie, Hungry Herman, love interest Jane and a dog named Walkie Talkie.

A movie based on a bubblegum comic? Meh, the gum wasn't that good so I doubt a movie would be better than the gum it advertises.

First Look at The Last Airbender

Three Clips from The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Below are three clips from Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. The fantasy stars Heath Ledger (in his last and incompleted role), Christopher Plummer, Tom Waits, Lily Cole, Andrew Garfield, Verne Troyer, Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law.

From IMDb - The film tells the story of Dr Parnassus and his extraordinary 'Imaginarium', a traveling show where members of the audience get an irresistible opportunity to choose between light and joy or darkness and gloom. Blessed with the extraordinary gift of guiding the imaginations of others, Dr Parnassus is cursed with a dark secret. Long ago he made a bet with the devil, Mr Nick, in which he won immortality. Many centuries later, on meeting his one true love, Dr Parnassus made another deal with the devil, trading his immortality for youth, on condition that when his first-born reached its 16th birthday he or she would become the property of Mr Nick.

Valentina is now rapidly approaching this 'coming of age' milestone and Dr Parnassus is desperate to protect her from her impending fate. Mr Nick arrives to collect but, always keen to make a bet, renegotiates the wager. Now the winner of Valentina will be determined by whoever seduces the first five souls. Enlisting a series of wild, comical and compelling characters in his journey, Dr Parnassus promises his daughter's hand in marriage to the man that helps him win. In this captivating, explosive and wonderfully imaginative race against time, Dr Parnassus must fight to save his daughter in a never-ending landscape of surreal obstacles - and undo the mistakes of his past once and for all.

No relation with Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium (bad joke). Though it seems very interesting and not to mention Heath's last role.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Back to the Big Screen

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer could be returning to the big screen.

However, Joss Whedon isn't involved and it's not currently set up at a studio. Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are working with original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, on what is being labeled a remake or relaunch.

Kuzui and her Kuzui Enterprises have held onto the rights since the beginning and later teamed with Gail Berman in bringing back Whedon to make the TV series, which was produced by Fox TV and launched on the WB in 1997.

The new film, however, would have no connection to the TV series, nor would it use popular supporting characters like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike. Vertigo and Kuzui are looking to restart the story line without trampling on the beloved existing universe created by Whedon, with their goal being to make a darker, event-sized movie.

The parties are meeting with writers and hearing takes, and later will look for a home for the project. The producers do not rule out Whedon's involvement but have not yet reached out to him.

Hmm, sounds........totally unnecessary/bad since it has no relation to the TV series.

Flight of the Navigator to be Remade

The Hollywood Reporter says that Disney is developing a remake of the sci-fi adventure movie Flight of the Navigator.

Brad Copeland is penning the script for the remake.

The 1986 original told the story of a 12-year-old boy who is abducted by an alien spacecraft in 1978 and reappears eight years later, still the same age and with no memory of what happened. NASA scientists discover a connection between the boy and a downed spacecraft and try to exploit the boy, who ultimately escapes with the ship and attempts to reunite with his family.

Flight of the Navigator grossed only $17 million when it was released theatrically but was later rediscovered on VHS, becoming a cult hit.

Don't mess it up, Disney!

LoZ Movie World Premiere on June 6

BMB Finishes will be premiering their independent full-length live-action feature Legend Of Zelda fan film, The Hero Of Time on Jun. 6th at 7:30 PM at the Plaza Theatre on 1049 Ponce De Leon Ave., Atlanta, GA. 30306. This is based on The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time video game by Nintendo, and was shot on location in Atlanta, GA.

(BTW, this wasn't that fake Zelda trailer that IGN did last year!)

It doesn't look half bad, heck, looks better than Sci-Fi original movies and anything Uwe Boll dishes out.

I agree AdventChild. It definitely doesn't look bad for a fanmade film, and atleast Link looks closer to the original than the weirdo in the IGN April Fools trailer. XD

And yes, better than Uwe Boll BY FAR. Then again, anything is better than Uwe Boll's crappy work.

Pacino to Star as Dr. Kevorkian

The Hollywood Reporter says that actor Al Pacino is in negotiations to star in You Don't Know Jack, an HBO Films biopic about Dr. Jack Kevorkian.

Kevorkian, also known as Dr. Death, assisted in more than 150 cases of suicide and had beaten the state court system in Michigan numerous times, but was finally convicted after he willingly sent a videotape of himself euthanizing a terminally ill man to "60 Minutes." He was convicted of second-degree murder in 1999 and is serving his sentence in a maximum-security prison in Michigan.

The film, to be directed by Barry Levinson, will trace his rise as he builds his infamous "Mercy Machine," conducts his first assisted suicide, and starts a media frenzy with his epic legal battles defending a patient's right to die.

Adam Mazer wrote the script, which is loosely based on Between the Dying and the Dead: Dr. Jack Kevorkian, the Assisted Suicide Machine and the Battle to Legalize Euthanasia by Neal Nicol.

Rogen will provide the voice of Paul.

Paul begins filming in June.

Hmm, intriguing and it has Simon Pegg in it too.

Variety reports that Tom Cruise is returning to comedy with Fox's Wichita.

Cruise will play a secret agent who pops in and out of the life of a single woman, to be played by Cameron Diaz.

Wichita is eyeing a summer 2010 release.

Favreau and Rourke on Iron Man 2

Empire recently sat down with Iron Man 2 director and co-star Mickey Rourke to talk about the title character, Jim Rhodes/War Machine and villain Whiplash. Here's a bit from Rourke on his character:

Meanwhile, Mickey Rourke, who appears as new Iron Man nemesis Whiplash, was back on set last week after a stint with Sly, Li, Lundgren, Statham et al on The Expendables. "I'm having the time of my life!" he enthused about joining the Iron Man franchise. "It's been really brutal, because my Iron Man suit weighs 23 lbs. It's sort of a half-suit, with half my skin showing, with lots of Russian tattoos, because [Whiplash is just] out of a Russian-zone prison."

Scott, Brody Join A Couple of Dicks

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Seann William Scott and Adam Brody are joining Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan in A Couple of Dicks, a buddy action comedy being directed by Kevin Smith.

The script, by Robb and Mark Cullen, follows a maverick cop (Willis) and his partner (Morgan) who, while tracking a valuable stolen baseball card, tangle with a memorabilia-obsessed gangster and rescue a Mexican beauty who holds the key to millions in laundered drug money.

Scott plays a thief known as the Shit Bandit for the souvenirs he leaves at his robberies. Brody is an abrasive detective not happy to be working with Willis and Morgan.

A Couple of Dicks begins filming on Monday in New York.

Sounds pointless and uninteresting really.

Chase will join John Cusack, Lizzy Caplan and Crispin Glover in the Steve Pink-directed film about a bunch of unsatisfied guys who get thrown back to their younger days in 1987 via their Jacuzzi.

New Alien Film on the Way

Coming Soon reports that an addition to the Alien franchise is on it's way.

Director Tony Scott said that his Scott-Free Productions is indeed producing a remake with director Carl Rinsch helming. They hope that the movie, which is meant act as a prequel to Ridley Scott's original 1979 classic Alien, will be shooting by the end of the year.

The new film would also return to the original concept of just one alien creature, and execs will be looking for a new "Ripley" soon.

A prequel? Why not a sequel, Aliens 5 by Ridley? Yet at least a 'Scott' is involved and it could be handled with care. Though no more of the AVP crap.

Portman Joins the Cast of Your Highness

Variety reports that actress Natalie Portman is joining Danny McBride and James Franco in Your Highness.

McBride, who wrote the script with Ben Best, plays an arrogant lazy prince who with his brother (Franco) must complete a quest to save the kingdom and his brother's fiance.

David Gordon Green is directing the film, which begins production in Ireland in July.
