Sonic-related pet peeves?

NextGen was an example of doing it wrong. What makes you think they wouldn't do it right this time? Or do you have something against multiple characters?

 

Well I do like having different characters as long as there not reskins, I really like SA1. But maybe sega doesn't feel like trying something like that again.

Its not sega's fault. Sonic 06 turned into a mess thanks to other playable characters.

Oh boy, it's been a long time since I've seen this scapegoat rear its ugly head again.

 

Instead of writing them off completely just by virtue of starring in a shit game, maybe instead you'd like to take a moment to consider exactly why they turned into as big a mess as they did? Maybe it could have something to do with the fact their gameplay defied all precedent they had set previously (Tails, Rouge, Amy and Omega specifically)? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that you're regularly forced to abandon your own character choice because the game sees fit to switch them in the middle of a level for no good reason? Maybe it was because a lot of them were just horrible at killing things? Maybe it's because, and bear with me on this one because it's the kicker, not a single one of them actually played like a Sonic character? Even Shadow is debatable, despite his Homing Attack being close enough to Sonic's to draw the comparison in the first place.

 

Now that we're past all that, ask yourself how many of these things were completely unpreventable. The correct answer:

 

Absolutely fucking none of them.

Granted, they'd apply to any fandom, but Sonic is among the hardest hit of these:

 

• Self Fanservice. Why? Who felt the need to exaggerate the proportions of certain parts of the female characters (grossly or otherwise)?  When I'm looking for cute fanart, I don't want to see Blaze with a bust size that has gone from one extreme to the other or Cream as a muscly, scantily clad teen.
• Fetish art in general. Good lord, the amount of times I wish I had the power to do something effective about it. I don't care if people are into it for some sick reason, that shit's still nasty, man.
• Fanfics involving two characters and some OC that's talked about like we've always known her. Who the fuck is Rebecca? Why the hell should I care about her?

 

 

And this is why I don't go to DeviantArt anymore. Seriously some of the stuff on there (not just Sonic related) is messed up.

This post confuses me on so many levels.

 

Like, I can sort of understand being against R34, even if I'm not at all upset about it myself. But really, how did we go from that to "this character shouldn't have a name at all"?

 

A race could be neat in Lost World. Hey, as long as it's better than that one ARK level in ShTH where you "race" Sonic, which was just a glorified timed mission than actually trying to defeat an A.I. ... seriously, what was up with that? It was just really lazy, hell Adventure had races with Sonic and that was a whole gaming generation earlier! uh, I guess that's my pet peeve for this post

The screenshot of the pink guy and Sonic in Wind Hill looks more like a chase rather than a race, although I suppose it's not a huge difference. Maybe you need to catch him before he can reach the goal or something.

My pet peeve, and I may be the unpopular opinion here, is the artwork of Sonic and co. that's drawn deliberately grotesque, for humorous effect. I never thought it was very funny, and I'm not one of those fans who can't take a few jokes at the expense of my favorite series or anything. I just think it's lazy humor that's not very humorous. Then again, some people's disgust for it is probably what makes it funny to the people who make it, so I guess that's mission accomplished?

Does it annoy anyone else that in Generations they used modern designs for all the Classic Badniks in the Classic Era? They brought back Classic Sonic for a reason, so why not them? The Colours style ones look great, but it did strike me as odd. The most annoying part is that Lost World actually uses the Classic designs! And they look so good in that game, so why not Generations too?

Because it takes something you're used to, and puts a weird, otherworldly spin on it.

 

Yeah, there's nothing especially magical about Sonic with realistic proportions and a human face, but there's something about it that hits a nerve because nobody's expecting something like that.

 

But it isn't even about being funny, it's about getting upset over it of all things.  There's no reason on Earth that you should be upset by something just because it's ugly as fuck.  Sure, if Sonic's bending over and giving you a taste of fucking goatse, I could see why that'd upset you, but it's not; it's just a cartoon character drawn in a silly way.  You may not like it, no, but not everything is for everybody (like you said) and you should just get over it and move on.
