All-Stars Racing Transformed: The Track Roster Thread

That's what I mean. We won't get stuff like that. We'll get specific Zones.

The evidence is against this, as the two confirmed tracks are already generalizations around the themes of games instead of being anything specific. They admitted that this time around they're taking liberties with tracks and franchises because of the new boating/flying mechanics that forces them to invent new things. Super Monkey Ball has never had water in it before but there is a Monkey Ball level with water in it.

So what? Some of the ASR levels, like Samba de Amigo, did the same thing.

They'll add stuff when needed, but they'll still specific zones.

Like I said in the Sumo thread: If SEGA really wanted a Sonic 4 level to make the cut, I would hope for Sky Fortress. Not only would it be suitable for both land and flight-based racing, it would also reference two Sonic games at the same time.

That said, I'd rather they didn't since Sonic 4 is severely lacking in originality, making it more of a nostalgia trip in terms of actual level themes. Not to mention that there are so many S3&K levels that need some love, while Sonic 2 has been referenced all over the place:

- Chemical Plant (as much as I love it) and Casino Night in Generations, as well as Episode 1 for the latter;

- Metropolis also for Episode 1;

- Aquatic Ruin, Oil Ocean (admittedly less so) and Sky Chase/Wing Fortress in Episode 2.

I'd be happy with anything from S3&K with the possible exceptions of Marble Garden (given the influence in Sylvania Castle) and Mushroom Hill and Sky Sanctuary (for their appearance in Generations). I'd particularly love to see Ice Cap, Sandopolis and Lava Reef. Considering the air and water-based vehicles though, Hydrocity and Flying Battery would be pretty solid. I wonder if a track based around the entirety of Angel Island would be possible, ripping through the jungle and soaring passed snow-capped mountains, pyramids, and the Launch Base... But I'm getting carried away now.

I think the only think cooler than seeing "this zone" and "that zone" would be seeing Sonic levels based on the tropes in general.

What if they made a Sonic level that uses warp rings that allow you to travel through a variety of different Sonic locations.

Like say one second you're rolling around at the speed of sound down the streets of City Escape, you go off a ramp into a warp ring and suddenly you're dodging rainbowrific starships in Starlight Carnival, and so on. In a way it would allow Sumo to shove a bunch of Sonic stages into the game to sorta appease Sonic only fans, while leaving more room for other Sega franchises to get their own tracks.

i've already said this, but a CD track where the players use timed PAST/FUTURE posts per lap, like in a 3 lap race, the first lap starts out with Land in present, so racing by car, when you come back to enter lap 2, it sends you to the Past where the Water level has risen above the track and you transform to boat form, with the areas that are higher than the ground track, revealing new short cuts, and the wave system naturally, 3rd lap sends you to the FUTURE where it is ruined, all the organic land track has vanished below a polluted oily ocean, forcing you to fly, using boost rings, air hazards such as Flying badniks or perhaps dangrous weather like storm clouds, and when you come back in for the finish it switches back to present, where lap 1 took place.

and you can just loop the entire thing for more laps in private races.

and adding scripted events to each time zone would also be sweet.

Personally I'd prefer Sonic tracks staying with one theme only instead of being a bunch of different stuff that you warp to. It'd be more consistent so that whenever you wanted like a factory track or a beach track you could just pick the appropriate Sonic level.

Nah, I really don't like that idea. You could mishmash stages of similar theme to create a new one, like various 'palm tree' stages so the end result has lots of recognisable features, but to change from location to location like that sounds... lame. Sonic is SEGA's mainstay, and the titular character of the game even if it is a nonsensical crossover. His series should have some degree of prominence over the others.

Two new stages have been confirmed. One from Golden Axe and one from JSR.

The Golden Axe track, Adder's Lair, has lava instead of water and you see the skeleton from the character select screen. It's one of the later stages and is harder because of that. A volcano will erupt and meteors will crash down.

The JSR one takes place in the city, going from the rooftops to the trainstation, where you'll be avoiding trains. The Rudies will be battling the police. The attacks will get bigger during the race, with the police calling in the army for lap 3 and they'll be bombing the track.

Interesting is this:

“This time around, every track is a different IP, as opposed to the last game where we had three tracks for each zone,” explains SEGA senior producer Gwilym Hughes.

Guess that means Sonic only get's one stage? The second part of the sentence makes me a bit unsure.

I wonder what the remixed Golden Axe music sounds like.

It's like I said earlier, they really are just theming the levels around the general concepts of games instead of any specific location. Death Adder's lair in the original Golden Axe didn't have volcanoes and all that crazy stuff. It was just an island on the ocean that you got to after riding on the back of a giant eagle.

And that's a great thing. The stages will now encompass every aspect of the games they're based on instead of being specific locations and narrowing themselves.

i don't particularly remember any of Golden Axe's music off the top of my head, i'm sure it'll come back to me when i hear it though.

Probably an unpopular opinion right here, but I'd bedisappointed if there is only one new Sonic stage. I mean, he's the game's namesake. There were too many Sonic stages in ASR, but 2 or 3 would be right for this.

That would be appropriate. A green/waterfront stage, a casino stage and an industrial/laboratory stage. Those are the most iconic variations of Sonic's world.

You know what we need? A really LONG track. A behemoth-sized endgame course that makes Rainbow Road from Mario Kart 64 develop an inferiority complex.

I'd like a reworked Death Egg Zone that feels as massive as the background in Sonic 3 made it feel. Just a super huge monster of a course that's really intimidating and epic in scale, a true final challenge to overcome.

Whoa, new tracks are looking sweet. And seeing that sonic is Sega's mascot I highly doubt he's just getting one stage.

Wait... If the stages get thematically darker towards the end...

Does that mean a MadWorld stage is possible? Could it be?

Or maybe even a Condemned stage... no, that'd be going too far. Still, what "dark" places could be used?

Westopolis from Shadow the Hedgehog with the huge lazers and aliens all over the place?

No, that's not very dark at all. That's actually pretty ridiculous and cartoony.

I'm talking like grimdark serious and stuff. A House of the Dead track would be perfect for that. Perhaps an Anarchy Reigns stage set during some sort of cataclysm with krakens coming ashore and aircraft carriers nuking stuff.

That is pretty much the same thing as Westopolis, Black Arms could try to grab or shoot you and those alien carriers would be nuking stuff like in the game.

You could also get in the middle of a firefight between G.U.N agents and Black Arms or something like that.

The stage is pretty dark, the only cartoony stuff in it is Shadow and Sonic other than that it looks like any regular action game stage out there.

Assuming that three Sonic tracks made it in, it's likely that we'd have both a green and an industrial level but I'd rather there not be a casino level again. It's an iconic trope for Sonic, yeah, but I don't think the stages vary enough to warrant a second go*. There are plenty of other options, like a ruins stage for example.

* Unless we're including more theme park-inspired stages in that. Those can be quite different depending on the level.
