ShopTo. They're fantastic. Very good prices, reward scheme, and shipping's great too.

Asda, Morrisons, HMV (Their selection of games is actually more diverse than GAME I've found), Grainger Games, Indi's.

As for online. Amazon, Play.com, shop 2 (never used them, but shadz has), Videogamesplus.ca.

It's not like theres no other place that has games for good prices.

Edit: You know, this brings me onto something that I want to throw out there... is it just my imagination, or is the actual game selection at GAME (instore at least) amazingly crap? When you think of all the games that they could stock, does anything instantly come to mind other than COD, Arkham City, LA Noire, Skyrim? I know they have other titles in stock, but I'm also thinking about how they market pre-owned stuff too.

That's one of my problems with GAME. In store they don't tend to stock anything more than a few months old, and if they do, it's something that's a continued big seller, like most Mario and Call of Duty games. Their selection isn't very varied at all, while HMV has a lot of variety across all platforms. For a specialist retailer, you expect some variety and choice. They have that in pre-owned, but not in new, which is the condition I like to buy my games in.

GAME enters administration

My thoughts go out to the staff :(

There's this too.

Ian Shepherd attacks media GAME coverage

Don't really see the 'attack' in any of the comments myself, though.

And so it ends.

Game is now in Administration, the details have only just been made public. The statement has been released.

Mike Jervis and Stuart Maddison of PwC were appointed joint administrators of the UK and Ireland operations of The GAME Group plc, Game Stores Group Limited, Gameplay (GB) Limited, Game (Stores) Limited, Games Station Limited, Game (retail) Limited, Gamestation Limited (“the group”) on 26 March 2012. The appointment was made following the company’s announcements on 21 March that the listing of its securities on the Main Market of London Stock Exchange plc had been suspended from trading and a filing of a notice of intention to appoint an administrator had been made.

The group, with a turnover of £1,625m in the year to 31 January, is a multi-channel retailer of video games and video games hardware trading under the names of Game and Gamestation. The group’s head office is based in Basingstoke with operations in the UK and Ireland, Spain, Portugal, France, Czech Republic and Australia. There are currently 609 stores throughout the UK and Ireland. There are 385 employees based in the group’s head office in Basingstoke and 5,136 store employees across the UK and Ireland.

Mike Jervis, joint administrator and partner at PwC said:

“The group has faced serious cashflow and profit issues over the recent past. It also has suffered from high fixed costs, an ambitious international roll-out and fluctuating working capital requirements.

“Despite these challenges, we believe that there is room for a specialist game retailer in the territories in which it operates, including its biggest one, the UK. As a result we are hopeful that a going concern sale of the business is achievable.”

Edit: Gosh darn! I have been Ninja'd or goosed!

lol Wow, the company director blaming the media instead of blaming his boards incompetence and high prices. Epic.

Really hope the staff pull out of this ok.

Yeah, from what I've been reading over the past few weeks from various staff members, the company's been handling this so poorly. Staff have had to find out the latest updates themselves online.

Me and my wife are going out into our local shopping centre this afternoon, so I'll have a look in the GAME and Gamestation stores there and see if anything's being sold off cheap. I won't be able to post anything until I'm back, though.

I'm really tempted to head into town...but I don't want to go for nothing. I've got a huge feeling they're still going to be their usual tightwad selves up to their final breath.

I think this warrants a topic title change.

GAME over...? Yeah...

So looks like we were right with all the predictions about 'it'll be over before April.' I almost want this topic pinned since it's one hell of a read from when this news first broke to how it's all gone crashing down.

Edit: Holy... Gamestations Birmingham New Street store has shut down, according to people on twitter, that was a 'flagship store' *nervously looks towards the Hull one*

Edit 2: Gamestation New Street and Palisades stores in Birmingham – the former of which is the chain's flagship, has been confirmed closed. GAME's Oxford Street Store in London is still trading.

Can't believe they've closed that big flagship irmingham Gamestation store sad.png The Palisades GAME has also been closed. Not heard anything about the GAME store in the Bullring.

UPDATE: We're hearing of confirmed closures of a number of GAME and Gamestation stores, with more coming in every minute. There has also been a report of Gamestation's flagship Birmingham New Street store closing its doors.
