  • Sonic Symphony Germany Performance Suddenly Cancelled

No formal announcement or reason given.

In news that has put something of a dampener on the past weekend's incredible events in London, it appears that the Germany performance for the Sonic Symphony World Tour has been suddenly cancelled. It was due to take place at the Mitsubishi Electric Halle in Düsseldorf on November 17.

While news of the potential cancellation has not yet been addressed or confirmed by production company MGP Live, the Düsseldorf page has been scrubbed from the official Sonic Symphony website and links to the show now throw up a 404 error.

Fans have also posted images of notices they have received from the ticket management company Eventim informing them of the show's cancellation, citing "logistic" issues. Again, no formal announcement has yet been posted on the venue's website or social channels, however their full schedule page quietly lists the Sonic Symphony event as "Cancelled" with no reason given. Clicking through to the event takes users to a 404 page.

Hopefully this is something that can be resolved very quickly with a new date for the country, as it's otherwise a significant blow to the non-US tour. Many Sonic fans in international markets do not get the opportunity to visit the US (or even the UK) to attend events, and the opportunities for fan-focused events are very rare in a lot of countries.

We have reached out to MGP Live for some more information and hopefully we will have something to update you on this soon.

There are no words to describe how sad I am because of that. It's been a rough year and this was the only thing I was truly looking forward to, since I would have met some friends there I have not seen in 10+ years, but which I have known through german sonic forums for over 20 years now.

    Thanks for nothing, SEGA.

yesterday someone on twitter mentoined the cancellation, I went to https://www.sonicsymphonytour.com/dusseldorf which was still available, one hour later it got removed.

Today, I also got an email (this is put through google translator).

The one in Paris also got cancelled, those fans got an email on 31 august and it was rescheduled, the one in Düsseldorf seems cancelled without a new date.

I have no words for this, I was really looking forward to this event but now I'm just mad and dissapointed. I'm not even sure if I can cancel my train tickets and hotel stay as I didn't think I'd need cancellation insurance...

They say it has been cancelled due to logistical reasons, but on Twitter some speculate it's because of low ticket sale, I think the low ticket sale might be the reason they don't reschedule it? Either way it sucks

I am very upset as well.. there has never been an Original Sonic Event near me and i have been a Sonic fan my entire life. I'm 24 now.. This was gonna be the best day this year.

    fuck it :(

I can't imagine that the Ticket sales were so low tho. I was one of the very first ones to get a Ticket, because of a subscriber bonus and I could see the good Seats getting taken in seconds.

well.. this is a very huge letdown..

This is what I saw on Twitter, the best places are gone and the ones on the balkon were never available.

I don't think this is the reason it got canceled, but am wondering if it's the reason it didn't get a new date..

Currently following Shoto Nakama's Twitter account who said he'll let us know more about why today.

    This really is a disaster.

I think this would have been the first huge Sonic related event in Europe, outside of the UK. Further, it is a tragedy since for sure many people spend a lot of money to book a flight to Düsseldorf and to book a hotel. I find it especially weird to cancel it so shortly after the brilliant London concert which surely advertised the event to fans who haven't decided yet whether they want to see the concert in Düsseldorf.

Truely a sad day for the Sonic community.

I agree the timing was very bad, friends and I were getting hyped up from the London footage and shortly after that this news arrived. This couldn't have been a worse rollercoaster of emotions...

It's not only Düsseldorf that got canceled but also Paris that got delayed until June next year. I heard those people got an email about this August 31. With those 2 you have all Europe shows.. All eyes are on Shota Nakama's Twitter account now to clarify this. They already said it's logistics so likely it's not possible to move certain stuff from UK, then to US and then back to europe, but that's just me guessing.

Appearantly London wasn't perfectly either due to them running out of merch in the 2nd show. Shota Nakama on Twitter has just posted a clarification about this on his twitter/x account and the clarification about Dusseldorf & Paris should follow, I truly hope there will be another show in Düsseldorf (or even better (closer to home for me) maybe Amsterdam). He did mention in another tweet that they'd have interest in a show for Spain so Sonic Symphony in Europe isn't "dead" at least...

A mail to refund the ticket money has been sent by eventim yesterday.

However, for fan ticket holders this means shipping back the tickets, which is quite a hassle and feels risky especially if you don't live in Germany. The show is canceled meaning the tickets are useless, why not let us keep it?

I dm'ed Shota Nakama on Twitter if there's anything he can do about this situation, and he will discuss it with the ticketing company, so for those with fantickets I recommend waiting for more information before completing the refund process. Those with e-tickets can probably get a refund without any additional steps.

I was thinking something like this might happen, so I told my friends yesterday to hold on to their tickets until we hear the official statement regarding this concert. Glad I was on the right track there, so thanks for updating on this matter.
