  • Shun Yashrio, Japanese Voice of Big the Cat, Passes Away at 70

Also beloved as the voice of Winnie-the-Pooh and Tom Cat.

Japanese animation communities have been mourning the loss of veteran voice actor Shun Yashiro this week, who passed away on the 25th June due to a stroke, according to Anime Fan (JP).

The 70-year-old was best known for his role in Tom & Jerry (as Tom), Doraemon (as Suneo Honekawa) and in various Disney productions as Winnie-the-Pooh and others, but he will also be familiar to Sonic fans for his portrayal of Big the Cat in Sonic Adventure.

Yashiro was affiliated with the Theater Echo group, supporting the local arts. According to Anime Fan, a farewell ceremony was held on 30th June at the Echo Theater in Tokyo's Ebisu district.

    Rest in peace, Yashiro-san.
