It probably goes without saying, but the vast majority of the people involved with making official Sonic the Hedgehog content don't just make Sonic the Hedgehog content. They occasionally branch off into other mediums or other IPs. For example, it has been announced that the original designer of Sonic, Naoto Oshima is the co-creator for a new CG animated film called Hypergalactic.
The film's plot is simple. It takes place in the not-so-distant future, and follows a teenage girl named Fisher and her baby brother. The pair liberate Ohkan, Earth's forgotten protector, in the hopes that he can help reunite them with their missing parents. So, the trio set off on an adventure that will see them discover the deeper meaning of family. That all said, we don't know who the baby brother's name is, and we don't know who will be voicing him. So, there's still some unanswered questions to be figured out. However, we do know that Oshima not only co-wrote the film's screeplay, but he was involved with writing the story too!
As for the cast, there aren't many. A grand total of 4 have been announced, and we only know of the roles for 1 of them. That person is Adam DeVine, who will be voicing Ohkan. We also know that Elsie Fisher, J. K. Simmons and Sam Richardson are all confirmed to be a part of the cast. Other than that, we know that Toei Animation is producing the film and that Shrek 2 writer David N. Weiss is the one directing.
So, what is the current progress on the film? Well, there's no release date officially announced as of this article's writing. In fact, the film isn't even finished yet. It is currently in post-production, and it is unknown exactly how far into post-production the CG animated adventure film is. Nevertheless, Naoto Oshima has been obviously very busy lately, and it isn't just because of Sonic Superstars.
