  • McDonalds Portugal Reveals New Sonic Superstars Happy Meal Collaboration

    Sonic Superstars will be the focus of a new McDonald's Happy Meal collaboration set, if a newly-released commercial from McDonald's Portugal is any indication.

    The above commercial, originally posted by Youtuber Sonic Station, shows Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy from Sonic Superstars dashing around the screen before hopping into a Happy Meal box. The range of available toys were displayed, and seem to be some kind of wheeled 'skateboard' toy with images that are focused on Modern Sonic characters. Given Sonic Superstars is a Classic Sonic game, this seems a little odd.

    Hopefully this new collaboration is carried across the rest of the world. In the UK, there are commercials running for Paddington, so it might be a while before we see any of this for ourselves.

    For a Sonic promotion...this is pretty weak. Cardboard artwork on a copy pastaed skate board hardly compares to the toys they used to do for Sonic. By the looks of it I also don't think it was supposed to be a Superstars promotion, the past versions of the cast was just used out of laziness or budget reasons. (McDonalds Sonic commercials can get pretty lackluster depending on the region, I think most people have seen that infamous one)

    UK McDonalds re hinting at a sonic tie in dropping soon. I was worried that may have to visiting there more frequently and start ordering Happy meals. Looking at these, if the UK ones are the same, I need not fear. They look really poor tbh, especially after the pretty cool moshi moshi ones they just had.

    I think this is the first time that Sonic appears exclusively at McDonald's in Portugal, but I thought it was strange that it was from Sonic Superstars and one of the dolls was Shadow 🤔
