  • Jakks Pacific Starts Making SEGA Action Figures (That Aren't Sonic)

Rise from your grave, rage on the streets, and roll monkeys in balls with these toys.

SEGA and Jakks Pacific's partnership has to be profitable, because it's now moving beyond Sonic: they've announced  a new line of action figures based on other SEGA IPs. Axel from Streets of Rage, Werewolf from Altered Beast, and Aiai from Super Monkey Ball will make up the first wave.

These toys will be available exclusively at Walmart, and will be available within the next several weeks.

Axel was the first toy to be revealed. It's based on his Streets of Rage 2-3 design, and comes with the iconic fireball that can engulf his first for certain attacks as an accessory:

Werewolf from Altered Beast was revealed next. A transformation from the game's first level, the toy comes with a spirit ball accessory, which is what transforms the game's main characters into the werewolf, as well as other beasts:

Finally, we have Aiai from Super Monkey Ball, the most recent character of the three toys coming in this wave. Aiai might be the coolest of the three, coming with a proper transparent ball as well as a banana accessory, which was a collectible in the original game:

Hopefully, these will not be Jakks Pacific's only SEGA toys. SEGA employee Mike Cisneros has said that "if this first wave does well, we very much hope that we can continue with more of your favorite characters in the future."

Jakks Pacific has been in a partnership with SEGA for nearly five years now, and has dug ever deeper into Sonic's roster of characters and levels for new toy ideas, with even characters like Mephiles getting figures. With this partnership now expanding into other SEGA IP, the sky is hopefully the limit for this partnership.

Honestly, I'm actually pretty excited for the AiAi figure. My cousin is a HUGE Monkey Ball fan.

Yo! This is looking awesome. I'm all about that altered beast fig. I've never seen any merch for that game before. I hope they get some Ristar or Vector Man figs one day.

My one hope is Puyo Puyo figures.

It's not gonna happen, but I can hope, right?

I hope this means there'll be NiGHTS and Jet Set Radio figs in the works

(I would also hope for Skies of Arcadia or Gunstar Heroes, but I know to expect better...)
