QuoteAmsterdam, The Netherlands and London, UK - Fox Kids Europe N.V. (FKE) (AMEX: FKE; Reuters: FOXK.AS; Bloomberg: FKE.NA), the leading pan-European integrated children's entertainment company, today announced the acquisition of three new properties: Sonic X, Tutenstein and Shaman King.
FKE has acquired all TV and home video rights for the world excluding North America and Asia, to 52 half-hour episodes of Sonic X from TMS Entertainment Limited. Sonic X is the first animated adaptation to be created in Japan about the iconic video games character. The action comedy series features Sonic and his new best friend Christopher and their adventures.
FKE has also acquired all TV, home video, online & interactive and merchandising rights to 26 half-hour episodes of the animated, comic-fantasy series, Tutenstein, for Europe, Israel and French speaking Africa. The series is based around the adventures of a 3,000-year-old boy pharaoh who, thanks to a freakish accident, wakes up one day in 21st century America with the mistaken notion that he still rules the world. The series was originally produced by PorchLight Entertainment for Discovery Kids in the U.S.
Shaman King, a new animated, fantasy-adventure series based around the adventures of Yoh, a 13-year-old shaman-priest, and Morty his classmate, has also been acquired by FKE. Under the terms of the agreement with TV Tokyo MediaNet, FKE has acquired all TV and home video rights to 64 half-hour episodes of the series. The deal covers Europe (excluding Spain and Portugal), the Middle East, Israel and French and English speaking Africa (excluding South Africa).
The three properties will join FKE's portfolio of programmes serviced by Buena Vista International Television.
Benoit Runel, Senior Vice President, Programming & Acquisitions, FKE says: "These three very strong new properties make an excellent addition to FKE's existing line-up of popular kids programming. Jam-packed with highly imaginative storylines, magic, fantasy, action and adventure, we are confident that the new series will have an international appeal."
Bruce Steinberg, Chief Executive Officer, FKE added: "We continue to take active steps to increase the amount of top-quality product added to our library as demonstrated by the acquisition of these three major titles. The market in programme distribution continues to be difficult but based on new product already in the pipeline, we now expect to see a sustained upturn in this division commencing with the fiscal year beginning October 1, 2004."
