  • First Sonic 3 Trailer Shown By Paramount Behind Closed Doors At Cinemacon

    Jim Carrey is fat now.

The first footage from Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog 3 debuted behind closed doors at their Cinemacon panel earlier today. So far, they haven't released it publicly, but its contents have been described by press who attended the event.

The trailer shows Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnik in his lab. He's gained weight from binging carbohydrates, meaning cinematic Robotnik will finally get to be fat. Someone is quoted as saying "we found him," presumably referring to Shadow. The trailer also shows Robotnik recruiting Shadow, Shadow facing off against Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, and Sonic and Shadow fighting in the New York City skyline. Shadow also gets a motorbike. As of this writing, I'm still a little unsure how it all fits together, as these details are taken from multiple sources.

Hopefully Paramount will show the footage soon.

The sourced for this info can be found here, here, here, and here.

No casting for Shadow was revealed, who apparently didn't talk in the trailer.

Incredibly antsy to see a trailer now, but I have no idea when we'll get one; that being said, fatbotnik being back is pleasantly surprising.

The most interesting thing here is that here, in Cinemacon of all places, Shadow's casting has not been announced still. This means one of two things.

One, the movie is still so early into post-production, they still haven't nailed a celebrity for the voice role.

Two, this is going to be a game actor reprising his role. Cinemacon is for primarily for investors and cinema chain owners to get invested in a studio's current slate. And they want celebs, celebs, celebs to bring the moviegoers in. By all accounts, if Paramount had a celeb locked, they surely would have announced it here. If Shadow DOES have a voice, it might be an actor investors and cinema owners wouldn't care about: AKA a game actor.

I sincerely hope you're right - it would be awesome if they got Humphrey or Griffith back. I'd be happy with the Sonic Prime guy, too.

Or 3: they have someone and don't want to tell you yet.

Why do I have this feeling...

Well, Shadow was riding a motorcycle in the trailer, right? Why do I feel that motorcycle may have been the one that appeared in the MotoGP Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas in Austin, Texas?

    Just a thought.

EDIT: I speak of this, by the way.

Potentially, but it's weird to hold back crucial casting if it IS a celebrity to the cinema chain owners. The whole point of Cinemacon is to convince them to pick up and show your movie at their chains.

And with celebrities being showcased left and right at Paramount's panel for other movies, Shadow's absence seems strange. Especially compared to the lineup announced for the Smurfs movie and Transformers One, which was also showcased at the same panel today.

    Here's a thought.

Since Sonic 3 is not far from release, and we still don't know who will be voicing Shadow in this...

...is it possible that Shadow could be MUTE here?!

    No.

Only classic characters are considered mute. It also would make no sense for them to mute Shadow, since he never was mute at all. They know that this would outrage the fans, we all know how that went when the first trailer of movie 1 dropped.. :D

I do agree, but if it means anything, didn’t Classic Tails and Classic Eggman speak in Sonic Generations? Every other game, they are mute, but still…

    Jason Griffith or bust.

In all seriousness, they obviously want a bigger, more recognized name to voice Shadow. For a character that generates as much hype as Shadow has done, it makes perfect sense to do so. Instead of falling back on previous VA's.

But bring in the current game VA for Tails, who did wind up doing Tails in both the films & Knuckles show. And I don't think the marketing made a big deal about it like Knuckles for the 2nd film. But it shows that they aren't leaving the game cast out of the question.

And while I'd love for Jason Griffith to return as Shadow, cuz he's still the best Shadow VA in my opinion. But a lot of people would agree on that. Don't know where Jeff Fowler stands on that topic, but he did work on Shadow's game where Jason started voicing the character in the games, soo...

I don't know. They impressed me with Knuckles' VA, so I'm hoping they can do the same for Shadow, whoever they get.

As for Amy or Rouge, I could easily see them getting a game VA back for them no issue. Cuz they'd kinda be secondary like Tails was in Movie 2. Hence why Coleen reprised her role of Tails, and Knuckles got a much bigger name attached to him.

Eh, that probably can’t matter too much, anyway, since that was a celebration game that included both modern and classic Sonic.

Well, anyway, I don't think Shadow will be mute. I do think he will speak.

How else are we going to hear the words "Chaos Control!" come out of his mouth?
