Boy, it seems like people were really eager to play Sonic Frontiers! The game has reportedly smashed the record for most concurrent players for a Sonic the Hedgehog game on PC platform Steam.
VGC reports that Frontiers hit a peak of 19,181 active players following the game's release this past week, citing metrics from SteamDB. The series' previous best was Sonic Mania's launch with a concurrent player count of 11,937 - meaning Sonic Team's latest adventure has nearly doubled it.
Sonic Frontiers has also been receiving highly positive fan reception since its release last Tuesday as well, and the player count is no doubt buoyed further with overall positive scores and reviews from industry critics. Sonic Stadium was among those, giving the game a 'Good' score of 3.5 stars (you can read our review here).
Here's the list of most concurrent players on Steam for the Sonic series, provided by VGC, for comparison's sake:
- Sonic Frontiers – 19,181
- Sonic Mania – 11,937
- Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed – 5,861
- Sonic Origins – 2,668
- Sonic Forces – 2,058
- Sonic Generations – 1,686
- Team Sonic Racing – 1,056
- Sonic Lost World – 252
A fantastic effort by Sonic Team, and something to be really proud of!
