  • "Several New Sonic Titles for Mobile Are Under Development," Says SEGA Sammy

Looks like SEGA's keeping Rovio pretty busy.

Hot on the heels of Sonic Dream Team, it looks like yet more Sonic games on mobile platforms are on the way, per a SEGA Sammy Management Meeting slide deck from last week. On a slide highlighting SEGA's post-Rovio-acquisition strategies, it is directly stated that there are currently multiple Sonic mobile development projects:

Given the context of the page, this does suggest that these titles are being made by or in cooperation with Rovio themselves: the block noting the new games is nestled between statements about Rovio's Beacon platform aiding Sonic and Hatsune Miku mobile entries, and using Angry Birds for IP collabs and console/PC releases.

One factor in this mobile push appears to be serving more global markets, particularly Asia and especially China. The deck frequently highlights the importance of expanding their mobile offerings to Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, China, and other Asian countries. China is distinctly listed as one pillar of "Growth Opportunities," and SEGA plans to release a Chinese version of Persona 5: The Phantom X.

Beyond these revelations, most of the deck is the same song and dance we've heard over the last couple of years: Super Game is coming (whatever it/they are), Like a Dragon continues to gain steam globally, and they want to do more transmedia projects beyond Sonic. There was also a brief reminder that Atlus is planning to release Metaphor Re Fantazio (I refuse to look up if I put the correct number of spaces in that title), and they even showed off key art, screenshots, and new names for the five in-development "POWER SURGE" games.

Maybe it will be a few Spin-off titles. After all, Sega have said in the past that the wanted to team up with third-party developers for new Sonic projects.

Maybe we will get another racing game from Sumo?

This confirms that now is a good time to be a Sonic fan!

More games on the way accross all platforms, a format that seems to work in Frontiers, trusted 3rd parties like Hardlight, HeadCannon and Arzest who seem to have a sound take on what to do in a game and how to diversify them....

...Prime and the film series doing well, another series on the way,  loads of quality merch being produced regularl, an IDW series in good health, and a live symphony tour!!

The only this missing is a HUGE UK based celebratory summer convention to tie it all together ;-) lol

I'm glad I went back into the Sonic fandom at this point because my other major fandom is Pokemon and it's... not really a super great time to be a Pokemon fan rn lol.

Not that Sword/Shield and Scarlet/Violet were anything like Sonic 06, but yeah, it looks like Pokemon is starting to have a rough time in place of Sonic, the latter which was having a rough time, but things are looking up for it now. Not saying Pokemon and Sonic are related, but don't you find it strange this apparent "trade off", for a lack of better words, is happening between Pokemon and Sonic? Remember, I said "apparent 'trade of'", meaning it is more of a coincidence and not really literal.

On that note, I can't wait to see what new mobile Sonic titles are going to come in the future!

It's definitely weird, yes. I'm not complaining about Sonic getting better, though.

Does Dream Team have any monetization beyond the subscription to the apple arcade? Are they going to charge people for character skins or something?

Because if not, then it makes sense that more games are coming. Speed Battle and Dash are uber profitable and will need to be sun-setted and replaced at some point.

Apple Arcade has no in-app purchases. It's a major tenant of the service, that you will not be asked to pay beyond the cost of the subscription. Software can get free updates, but nothing paid.
Also, there are not any skins or anything in the game at this point.

I don't know about you guys, but I want a Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles for mobile. I love the game and wish I had it on the go. Also maybe we'll get some stuff for us Android users out here.

I wonder if there's going to be a crossover game with Sonic and Red.. Seeing that they've done crossovers in their individual games before
