  • Dataminer Uncovers Evidence Of Shadow Costume, Retro Diner Amy skins coming to Sonic Superstars

Looks like we will be getting classic Shadow...sort of!

Sonic Superstars didn't just get a Sonic holiday costume in its update today: it's also got hints for future DLC. Specifically, a dataminer who goes by Axanery on Twitter dug into the update and uncovered evidence of two upcoming skins, Retro Diner Style Amy (known internally as IHOP Amy) and, perhaps more notably, Shadow Costume Sonic. Interestingly, Axanery notes that Shadow Costume Sonic is recognized as almost a separate character, like the Rabbit skin. It should be noted that Rabbit had his own animations, a unique voxel skin in Cyber Station, and even maintained his rabbit appearance when going super.

This suggests that the Shadow costume might be getting a little more than other skins, though Axanery does speculate that it could be Sonic in a Shadow onesie. Given that Iizuka has often stated that Shadow can never canonically appear in the classic games, it would not surprise me if a proper Shadow skin was also off the table.

Given that Axanery found evidence of Holiday Sonic back in October, we'll know what exact form this Shadow costume will take soon enough.

I eagerly await the release of the Shadow DLC, the polarisation of the Sonic community as a result of it, and the messageboards going in to meltdown debating whether it should happen or not in a "classic era" game. Fingers crossed it soon as I need to some entertaining reading lol

Shouldn't it theoretically not be a big deal to put modern characters in considering the Lego skins were based on the modern designs? I know Sega can be pretty arbitrary about what they allow, though...

Probably going to get flak for this but while Classic Sonic in a Shadow onesie is a funny and cute idea, IMO they really shouldn't be doing this. As its not going to be the compromise that will make people happy that Sonic Team hopes it will be, instead it will only increase the inane demand for a Classic Shadow, as those people will instead take this good gesture as "getting their foot in the door".

Does Sega really have a reason to be bothered by people demanding Classic Shadow? They can just ignore it if they want.

Well SEGA does have a habit of trying their best to please their fanbase regardless if the idea has that much merit, especially if the request comes from younger fans. For instance the game Shadow the Hedgehog was born out of fans' desire to give Sonic a gun, a game many take issue with. Though to be a fair, that specific idea is far less lore breaking in comparison and with that game in particular I'm a apologist when it comes to it's narrative. There is also the better received? avatar creator from Sonic Forces.

Yeah... I'm gonna chalk that under 'what was Sega freaking thinking.' A more mature Sonic game with branching moral choices could've been good, but I can't even name all the things that were wrong with what we actually got.

Granted, I don't want to name all the things wrong with that game, because I'd rather not go down that rabbit hole of cringe.

Given Sonic 3 comes out next year, odds are it’s specifically movie Shadow, not just Shadow.

    Movie Shadow... in Sonic Superstars.

I mean, they've already got Rabbit Sonic, LEGO Sonic, and the modern Amy skin, so I guess it's not too out of the blue.
