Silent forest so far looks beautiful, the aesthetics of Sonic Lost world do seem rather inconsistent though, I must say that it does look lazy in places.

I think with Generations, they had that picture and that small comic showing the first cutscene. We didn't get any footage, I believe.

Actually IGN showed the first cutscene of generations.

The more I look at it, the more I hate the design of the Candy level...

Level design doesn't look particularly enthralling, and the visuals make no sense. May be a one-off stage, but still.....I just don't like it....

As much as I love this game so far, I agree with Scar, I hate the sweet level, I'm glad it's only short and simple.

I'm still freaking out over this game though, I wish I had kept spoiler free now, everything has been such a fucking amazing surprise that's left me squeeing and flailing like an idiot.

I haven't been this excited for a Sonic game since the hype I got for 06 and Riders, I mean Gens was cool and all but this is how I like my Sonic, cartoony, wacky and unbelievable.

I don't see much wrong with the Candy Level, I mean, aesthetically it's no Sweet Mountain but it gets the job done.

The only reason the Candy level frustrates me is because it always makes me wish I had a doughnut.

You know I love the idea of a food based stage, it's weird and makes no sense and I really wish Sonic Team would do more odd tropes. However I agree with you here Scar, that stage is such a bore, maybe we'll get lucky and this stage also has a 3D act.

Candy level just looks kinda boring. There is nothing really stand out about it, and that might be because the platforming we saw from it didn't look all that interesting. Waiting for truffles to come along so you can hop along them and potentially fail and get blasted by one is pretty meh....

They really didn't need the 2D levels. -.-

Hey, the 3D levels and 2D levels are at least separated this time. So the 3D levels at least STAY 3D and vice versa, so maybe we will get a majority 3D Sonic game for once.

Aaron Webber said in terms of gameplay styles, they're pretty evenly split, which means half, or 1/3 of the game will be solely 2D platforming, 1/3 being 3D open world and 1/3 being GOTTAGOFAST Sonic action.

So bleh, 1/3 of a game in 3D is a big let down when it looks like the best part bout it.

The candy level didn't interest me too much if only because it looks like one big straight line.

Rayman Origins and Donkey Kong Country levels are straight lines. But they're straight lines filled with freaking awesomeness and difficulty and contextual gimmicks and robustness and shit! Same with Lost World's 3D levels from the way things are looking.

I guess it all depends on how many level tropes there are per area, so we could have 1-2 3D/2D/Running stages before first boss with about 3-4 level themes visited, which will bump the level selection up, but also the length of the game.

Has it already been brought up that the Clucker Badnik is making a return?

Really? Because it always makes me wish I had a bag of gummy bears with me.

I suppose in raw numbers sure, but in actual length, I think the 3D levels will get the majority.

From what I've seen so far that doesn't seem to be the case, but I hope you are right in the end.

I don't know about numbers but I imagine they will take the majority of gameplay time

Desert Ruin's Zone 2 candy level just suffers from just...being too basic, at least compared to the other levels and Color's Sweet Mountain to be more direct with comparisons. In terms of the level gimmicks, there isn't much to marvel about-licorice platform, truffle bouncing, and balancing on rotating cookies is all it's got to it based on the one level we've seen.

Whereas you could go through one level of Sweet Mountain and you get to do the following: run through popcorn and gingerbread men, grind in/around giant burger/cake structures on candy cane rails, drill through (fruit)cake, dodge giant jelly bean cannons, etc.. And this is a stage which is a combination of two level tropes-a food level trope and a factory level trope-, which means the level that isn't completely dedicated to food has more food-based gimmicks than the level that actually is [completely dedicated to food]. I don't even think Desert Ruins even has as much food in the scenery that Sweet Mountain does-in one act of Sweet Mountain I'm sure I saw more dessert-related foods than Desert Ruins -a level comprised mostly of dessert food- does. There's still a lot more they could had done.

There's also the fact Desert Ruins Act 2 in terms of background visuals isn't too exciting, most of everything is just floating/spinning around in space from a distance. Whereas you had giant burger structures and cake/icing formations,. There's just not much stuff going on in terms of gameplay and location.

I think the thing I least like about the Candy stage is that it's suspended in the air. I know, lots of zone's have done this, but lots of those zones had intriguing backgrounds. This Candy stage could have had cool Candy mountain-esque backgrounds, like giant biscuit corners sticking out from the ground to look like mountains with milk pouring down them to double as snow, or as similar type thing with chocolate bar square's corners with the top starting to melt away. Maybe a candy city made up with pop-tart buildings or something... I don't know.

It may look visually unimpressive, but maybe it'll play lovely. I hope so.

Maybe the Zones are somehow being displaced from where they're supposed to be in Lost Hex? I mean, in the original teaser image, it looked almost like Lost Hex was broken, with a bunch of missing hexagons and such.

that's a good idea actually, I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.

Lost Hex seems segmented.. so I bet the areas are all jumbled up and maybe even have themes that weren't originally on the planet.

THIS GAME IS SO PRETTY.

Casino Night Zone especially is going to look fantastic. True HD, 60fps, no slowdown, COLORS EVERYWHERE
