I love the whale-staggering load of unlockables this game has. Clear a mission, get an unlockable. Get a red ring, get an unlockable. Get all red rings, get a new skill to equip.

Ah so THAT'S what you get for getting all the Red Rings this time! That skill better be really worthwhile. Since I'm not too fussed about spoilers (infact I would quite like to know since it would give me further incentive to actually get all the Red Rings) so do you mind PMing me exactly what this new skill is?

GUYS! I just got all 5 red rings in Classic Planet Wisp and guess what I got? The freaking Homing Attack! Its not a 3DS exclusive! Only down side is that it takes all 100 skill points to get.

I think I just found my favorite mission. In Rooftop Run, there's a mission that forces you to go through the entire level with City Escape's snowboard. Seeing Sonic snowboard up the Big Ben is priceless.

Got the game, defeated Perfect Chaos, now I'm in class. Also played Casino Night.

The game is great. I'll probably write a review later when I've torn this game apart more. Probably during my Thanksgiving break, as my academic quarter is nearing the final stretch.

But yeah, naysayers can say nay, but to they I say nay today, because this game is really great, so yay!

I just bought the Time Break. It's exactly like in Secret Ring. Everything goes really dull and the sounds go all weird. Its actually not that broken surprisingly. It just makes the game so slower...

I picked this up at 8am this morning...and true to form, it took about 4 hours to complete (that's doing the bare minimum / 1 challenge stage per zone). I've got to say, I was a little concerned at the additional missions initially, but I've been REALLY enjoying them for the most part. Some are a little tedious while others are super easy, but overall they actually made me feel like I was 5 again playing a new Sonic game on my Genesis.

Interestingly - I made a point of swapping in other music tracks for the missions and WOW - what a different experience. Playing Classic Sonic opposite Espio in Crisis City with Toxic Caves blaring made the whole thing work for me. Likewise, cranking up Sonic Boom on some of those Seaside Hill missions and Palmtree Panic in Spagonzz was pretty fantastic. You wouldn't think some of these would work but they do! This was a BRILL idea ST...super classy.

If I have one major disappointment with the whole game - it's the rival battles. Fucking hell - the Shadow battle was brutal. SO boring. And I ran into a glitch twice where I was able to 'kill' Shadow in the beginning and proceed to collect 999 rings over the next 8 minutes! Metal and Stardust Speedway LOOKED phenomenal, but the battle itself was pretty benign. Same goes with Silver...just kind of underwhelming.

I think Sonic Team could've earned some extra points with reviewers (and fans) if they didn't wrap the Time Eater in so much mystery - ie. didn't hide Classic Eggman until the end of the game. At least then they could have included a classic Eggman battle at the end of each stage (a re-imagining of the GHZ wrecking ball/EHZ vehicle for example...)

That was the worst final boss I've ever faced in any game of my life. TIME EATER IS TRASH! Egg Dragoon was a waaaay better boss fight. Hell even Silver (as much as I hate to admit it) was a decent fight.

I will agree that the Egg Dragoon was a GREAT boss battle. I was actually surprised how tricky (and long) it went on...really well done!

I wasn't so disappointed with the difficulty of the Time Eater (tho at that point, I was more interested in just finishing the game so I could start going back for unlockables!) I really think the biggest missed opportunity were the rival battles...they pissed me right off! haha

Shadow's was well done and I think Silver's was oddly the best out of the 3. Shadow's just seemed WAAAAAY to easy.

Silver was the best...he nearly kicked my ass my first time fighting him and almost made my heart stop when I was looking for rings to survive.

That, and we got a good gauge of his abilities. Apparently, Silver is capable of Teleporting, creating Psychic Energy blades, flying at 300 mph, and raining down a huge meteor of debris on you.

Silver has taken one hell of a level in badass...and Shadow needed more work. I was wondering what GamesRadar meant when they said Shadow wasn't as fun.

The weakest levels took place in Crisis City. How fitting. The very weakest level is Classic CC.

Classic CC is the weakest? Ha you mean the one that trolled you.

Ok having finished my first playthrough of the game here's my impression.

The very minute I entered GH as classic Sonic I was blown away by how beautiful the scenery was and how solid the gameplay was. Needless to say it just got better from there. As a Sonic fan who grew up on the genesis games but never really hated any modern game I have to say that both classic and modern Sonics are awesome to play as. Classic Sonic gives me the feel of the genesis era once again which is something I really enjoyed. While modern Sonic continues from the unleashed formula and delivers IMO his best gameplay yet. It was great to see the modern levels reimagined into classic ones (Planet Wisp, Rooftop Run, and Speed Highway in particular are amazing) and likewise seeing Green Hill, Chemical Plant, and Sky Sanctuary modernized.

As for difficulty it was actually kinda challenging at some points. Though I will say this. If you die. Most of the time it's your fault because the controls are almost perfect. The bosses are also great and playing them on hard mode will REALLY give you a challenge (2 game overs on Death Egg Robot) If I could find one word to describe the challenge It'd definatly be balanced. While the beginning of the game starts off easy it gradually gets harder. FE while you may be able to boost through some of the earlier stages if you try to do that in the later ones you're screwed.

The music and graphics are great and the story is pretty good. (I do wish they would've explained how Tails meets classic Tails) The side missions are pretty fun as well. I have yet to find one that really pisses me off to the point where I want to quit playing. The extras are also a nice touch. Overall this is by far the best 3D Sonic gameyet and I think it can only get better from here. If you're a Sonic fan you owe it to yourself to check out this game. Sure it's about 6 hours long but it'll be an amazingly fun 6 hours.

Played some missions; finished the Classic Era.

Everything is great so far! Loved the Death Egg Robo, which is funny because I've always hated that boss in both it's Sonic 2 and Sonic 4 incarnations.

Will take on the Dreamcast Era tomorrow and we'll see if anything can top the brilliance of Sky Sanctuary.

The jump for Classic was rather horrible when I played the demo at Gamestop. Are there still control issues now? Or have they been fixed?

Tough question. The jump is still a little short, but I'm pretty sure it's different than it was in the demo. Maybe it's just less noticeable outside of Green Hill, but I've yet to have any problems with C.Sonic.

I hated Sonic 4E1, but this is spectacular.

Just cleared the Genesis Era, with a couple Challenge missions. I'd say this is probably the best 3D Sonic game so far, and possibly the best since the Genesis days!

Though I admit sometimes the controls felt a little wonky (a couple shortcuts near the beginning of Chemical Plant modern especially), and there is actually quite a bit of slowdown in some areas.

All in all the slowdown is my biggest complaint, but I really love this game and I can't wait to try out the next two eras' stages!

I must say, Classic Sonic's jump feels CONSIDERABLY better in every level after GHZ. When I began playing CPZ, I was shocked at how much lighter/responsive the jump felt. I'm not sure what's going on in GHZ, but CPZ was remarkably better and felt very old school physics. I had a buddy playthrough GHZ and CPZ just to see if I was imagining things and he felt a massive difference too... Nifty.

Shadow's rival battle took me a little under 10 minutes.

Sweet dooley, I suck.

Really? That was boost heaven for me! 1:45 is my record on that.

If it matters to anyone, I would like to know where you guys are on percentage completion? I currently have the full Genesis Era at 100%. I think the game is quite a fun game, to me it feels like an Add-On to Unleashed due to how little story there is. but that's just fine, they are awesome throwback levels and look beautiful. They controls are also very good!

Up until you face Time Eater. When you do, the game is like......FUCK YOU PLAYER IT'S MY TURN TO FUCK YOU HARD.
