Over the past 7 years of Skylanders: Dimensions, there has been three seasons and 67 episodes. That's right! 67 different stories helmed by different members of the community, each spanning a wide variety of tone, worlds, characters, arcs and themes.

With such a large catalog of stories, there are that special few that resonate especially well with our members. As such, for this second episode of our retrospective leading up to Season 4, I asked members of the SSMB community of their favorite episodes! And here I am, ready to share them all with you!

Choosing a favorite episode… Now that is a big ask. I joined the Skylanders Dimensions Roleplay 3 and a half years ago, and have really enjoyed every episode I’ve been able to take part in, so narrowing things down is pretty difficult for me. There are so many incredible writers here, and I’m happy and grateful for a chance to be a small part of their stories over the past few years. It’s been so fun getting to know everyone’s characters, and of course, the writers behind those characters, and just taking part in the amazing stories they have to tell.

So with that, here are the honorable mentions for my favorite episode in the Skylanders: Dimensions RP: Skylanders of Comicopolis, Rebel the Rebellion, Countdown to Extinction, LOG’s Final Challenge: Super Smash All-Stars Cross Tag Battle Royal Ultra Plus Extend!, The LOG Job: A LOSE Side Story, The Dark Elemental’s Playhouse, The Fawful and the Furious, and of course, the Season 3 Finale (both parts). If you couldn’t tell by now, that’s every story I’ve been involved in, save for one, which I ended up choosing as my favorite after a lot of deliberation. Truly, everyone’s stories have been great, and I have enjoyed myself in all of them and hope the writers are all proud of themselves!

As for my favorite episode in Skylanders: Dimensions, it is… Become One With Us, by @Ryannumber1gamer  ! I’m typically not good at explaining in-depth why I like the things I like, but I will certainly try to do that here. This was only the second story in the rp that I got to take part in, so I was still fairly new to it all, and being faced with this very dire threat where the mastermind of the season had been reduced to a mere puppet was certainly alarming. I still remember the opening scenes quite vividly, where LOSE’s Sky Eater base crashed into Club Penguin and there was a lot of destruction around that the Skylanders and even some LOSE members had to get out of. The gigantic robot army there that consisted of even some Skylanders and LOSE members was definitely intimidating, especially to me, being pretty new on the scene still, and it definitely left a big impression on just the sheer scale of everything.

Some characters stayed behind while others went to the Tron machine in a last ditch effort to help LOG against Trinity, who I knew nothing about at the time. At first, she seemed like this absolutely terrible being who wanted to kill everyone and control everything else. But as the story went along, I got to learn more about Trinity’s past, who she is, and started to get attached to her personality that remained in the Tron machine. Having LOSE and the Skylanders working together was also really cool and made for a lot of interesting interactions and team ups as well.

The thing I think I liked the most about it though was that in its grand scale and importance to everything, the episode made me feel as though every character there was important, that everyone truly did matter in saving Trinity from her despair. Through the story, we can learn right along with Trinity that we can be more than we were “supposed” to be and are strong enough to overcome the expectations that others place on us. I have always loved that message and think that it is a timeless one that we can all learn from, one that is always good to hear.

So, to Ryan, thanks for an amazing story that I still like looking back on now and then, and for providing us all with the beautiful gift that is Trinity, she’s become one of my favorite characters in the rp, and I’m glad that I got the chance to learn about her and bond with her. She’s a fun and kind character who is very brave and strong in many ways. Everyone’s stories have been wonderful, but this one will always hold a special place in my heart as the one where I first got to meet Trinity and really see her redemption begin!

I guess with how scatter brained my memory can be, I have to connect my favourite story to the most memorable one, which isn't really a stretch. It makes sense for something that was very enjoyable to also be the most memorable.

It is a pretty difficult decision but I think I'd have to pick "A Negative Reception" by @NegaMix.

With how the majority of travelling being done in flying machines, it gave the story a slightly different feel compared to others. It also gave flying characters more freedom. I believe the story was heavily influenced by Archie Sonic and since I've never really read those, it had characters and locations I weren't familiar with, but that didn't really hinder the experience.

Then we'd move on to exploring and if I recall correctly, we had a couple of different settings. Starting out reaching an island village and moving onto a secret base that we had to infiltrate. Things shifted again when it turned out the the base was for Eggman Nega to launch a type of Death Egg and we had to run to not get left behind.

I believe I had one of my characters get wounded and as we were nearing the conclusion, she ended up having to pilot the ship the gang needed to use to escape. So I got to goof around with a character that has no knowledge of aviation, trying to basically park a flying machine right next to an unstable space weapon.

I think what made this episode so much fun was the verity on display as well as putting us in a new type of situation and discovering how best to handle it.

Season 1 Finale: Episode 15: The Final Foundation. @Failinhearts

I joined fairly early during season one, and I was having a great time during that. But once we hit the season finale, it was here I realized how lucky I was to be a part of this RP! After a season build up, we reach the conclusion where we face off against the mastermind of the season, Lord Vortech, What really made this finale for me was the meta aspect of it, where the fate of both the fictional worlds and real worlds were at stake. Luckily the Skylanders, with their faith in their creators and friends from other dimensions, end up saving the day and the whole wide multiverse.

This was a delight to play, and was a story that really had me on the edge of my seat! I remember being very hyped throughout this one and it all ended on a satisfying note... it's everything I love about being with the RP, and I have some good memories with this one.

Season 2: Episode 21: The Great Bootleg Turnabout. @Jovahexeon Jax Joranvexeon

Alright, get this, what if some of our heroes were turned into bootleg versions of themselves and the ones who weren't turned had to fight in a court to keep themselves and save the others from their bootlegged fate? That's the premise of this one and I'm here for it!

This one was a blast to do, as we turned some of our cast into flanderized, bizarro versions of themselves while trying to solve a mystery of who turned them into bootlegs and presenting the evidence found in court cases. From goofy bootlegs, to a fun mystery, to a phoenix wright style court scenario, there was a lot to love about this story!

Season 3: Episode 53: Hero Hunt @Ryannumber1gamer

This is a story based on My Hero Academia, where Stain, a hero killer from the aformentioned manga and anime, has the Island of Club Penguin booby trapped and is hunting down our heroes one by one, much to the delight of LOSE. Little by little our heroes are captured, presumed to be dead and it all leads up to the climax of the story, where our heroes face off against Stain.

This "Most Dangerous Game" style scenario made for some high stakes, and suspenseful moments, where any wrong step could lead them into a possible death, and a deadly vigilante could be anywhere on the island. It's a suspenseful story where the effects of this traumatic event still haunts some of the Skylanders to the present day. Suspenseful, exciting, fun, this story had me hooked and actually helped me get into My Hero Academia.

Season 3: Episode 58: Skylanders of Comicopolis. @Emperor Robrainiac

This one might be cheating as this is a story of my own... but it is also my first ever story in the RP, and truth be told, I'm actually really happy with how it came out! In this one, our heroes go to the world of Comicopolis, a city known as the "Hero Capital of the World" run by a shady mayor known as Brand Victor, who offers a partnership with our heroes as there are mysterious threats and anomalies in the multiverse that has Brand Victor concerned. However, the Skylanders end up figuring out that Brand Victor was merely trying to make them look bad while trying to push his own Multiversal guardians.

While there are parts of the story I regret doing, particularly a twist villain near the end, I'm honestly really happy with things like the pacing, the setting, the characters, and just the story overall. I was really happy to share my universe of my creation with the folks at the RP, and I was happy that this was my first story I've ever made in the RP.

Story Choice No.1: Bootleg Turnabout @Jovahexeon Jax Joranvexeon

What else can I say? It was my story-writing debut, and without a doubt, was an ambitious one at that. I didn't quite know it at the time, but the Skylanders Roleplay had never really had an episode not dedicated mainly to fighting beforehand. What's more, it was a story that I sought out to make sure everyone could get the spotlight at some point.

And while it did demand more time of the RP than had been seen before, I was happy that my first story was a huge success with my fellow writers, as not only did it allow for my story-writing debut, but several characters of various writers were able to make vastly interesting bouts of character development across the board.

It would also be the story to have flex what the RP could do outside of focus on battles, working moreso on the mystery aspect and Ace Attorney avenue form of story-writing/play.

Story Choice No.2: Robot Riot/Frenemy Get @Ryannumber1gamer

I'm kind of cheating with this one, but I consider these two episodes to go hand in, since they share a lot in common. They are the Sonic/Mega Man stories that allowed for massive collaboration between writers, while focusing on the exploits of adversaries that were written by multiple writers, ergo, writers other than the main writer getting a go at creating a boss fight, as well as some collaboration in who would get to act alongside the main villain.

If I were to choose which one of the two I preferred slightly more, that would have to be Robot Riot. The first of them. I had a ton of fun portraying Eggman, Metal Sonic, Tails Man, and Shadow Man, as well as the big stakes at hand of the plot. Particularly, the story culiminating with the debut of super forms for heroes outside Sonic and Mega Man, getting the chaos emerald energy for a final showdown out in the mulitverse space.

It has hype and intensive moments, with a good recipe to get us all pumped.

Story Choice No.3: Countdown To Extinction @Jovahexeon Jax Joranvexeon

And last but not least, we have Countdown to Extinction. The first story to ever have a major casualty to the heroes' side, but that isn't the main reason I enjoy it so much. Countdown To Extinction is a keen ensemble piece, allowing for the culmination of several arcs for characters, as well as sparking the turning point for the Skylanders as Season 3's events were beginning to meet their twilight.

It's a daring tale of massive proportions also, introducing some big players and establishing just how hard things are getting for both the heroes and the villains as both factions ramp up their efforts, leading to one clash after another that ravages a whole plant....albeit one that was in a sense "dead" to begin with.

It also featured the return of the Giants Class too, while also boasting some of my favorite fight scenes and/or action sequences in the whole RP.

For the first story, and my favourite of the ones I’ve written, it’s still easily The Fawful and the Furious. @Ryannumber1gamer Despite some hold ups with time, I feel that it was one of my best paced stories, with a lot of good character moments, a wide diversity of locations, different things happening that shook up the dynamics of what we were doing from location to location, and I’m still really proud of how it came together in the end.

It was also great working with Emp on it since we’re both Mario fans, yet our experience diverts with the RPGs, where my expertise lies in Mario & Luigi while his is in Paper Mario, which meant we were able to bounce ideas well and really get each other interested in the other sub-series.

In general, considering it was the first time we did a major Mario story, I’m very proud I got to helm it, especially since before it, I wouldn’t class myself as a super big Mario fan or anything. Really, it helped me realise just how much I really enjoy the series, and why I enjoy it so much, and getting to play with the Mushroom Kingdom was fun.

On top of that, the warm response to Floyd of all characters and how he would go on to become such a loved running gag was really humbling and nice to see, especially given the origins of being a off the cuff idea that was only meant to happen once and then it just kept going and going and building was really fun.

The Dark Elemental's Playhouse: @Spin Attaxx

I really enjoyed seeing Shade's story arc come to the next major step after a long time, and it was really fun seeing Spin introduce various Sam & Max elements into the mix in a way that helped further the narrative arc for Shade. I think their chaotic energy worked well for the story and in offering a counter-view to Shade.

The Tournament episode/LOSE Heist: @Tori Himemiya

I really enjoyed all of the various setpieces and gimmicks that Tori created for a interesting set of battles, and it was fun being able to run completely wild with match-ups and different fights that spanned out of it, that also led to great character building chances. I think Tori did a fantastic job of organising everything, and I also really enjoyed having the chance to focus a episode on LOSE as well and show them doing their big coup on the mastermind.

Fall of the Giants: @Failinhearts

One that I have a new appreciation for now that I'm more aware of the home franchise it's based on, especially with the time travel elements and seeing Kaos using a unique means to deal a fatal blow to the original Skylanders, and therefore harm the future team. I expect this will only go further once I play Giants itself.

The Melancholy of Toko Fukawa: @Danj86

I thought it was a really good idea to mix the world and lore of Majora's Mask into a Persona-esque story to push Toko's character development further, especially with how surreal the world of Majora's Mask could already be. Getting to use Aku in the story was also a lot of fun for me, and I felt Dan did a great job in developing Toko through it.

Skylanders of Comicopolis: @Emperor Robrainiac

A pretty good shining example of how to focus and structure a story in my opinion, especially given it's based on a original franchise. Brand Victor is a interesting and compelling villain with great parallels to several Skylanders, and the superhero inspired world of Comicopolis having these different secrets and a hidden history behind the villains was great to explore. I also in general just thought Emp did a wonderful job in how he structured it to three main villains/setpieces, and it would be something I later took inspiration for in my stories.

Season 3, Episode 60: Rebel The Rebellion by @Failinhearts

Yeah, it's a bit biased to put my own episode into this list. But there's a reason for that. This episode for me was seven years in the making. Ever since Homura started showing up in places like Crossing, I always had a plan in mind about finding a way to fulfill her character arc from reluctant tagalong to the Disciples to a full fledged hero who embraces her idealistic sides she buried away for so many timelines. It is incredibly difficult to take such an antagonistic character and make her so not only do people come to sympathize with her, but buy her conversion.

The fact that I was able to pull it off alone is an accomplishment in itself, there were so many ways this would go wrong. Especially considering the apprehension Madoka Magica fans have in terms of how I portray the characters and their themes. But I try to push the doubts away and tell the story I want to tell.

But the actual reason why Rebel the Rebellion is out there is how I was able to write what is essentially a season finale within itself in the middle of a season. The implications the aftermath of this episode had became a springboard to so many future stories. It's because of this story and the Incubators especially that Nick Silph exists in Xicoria, it's why Madoka Revolution as a spinoff exists, and it's the sole reason why Season 4 will take place. Sonic's actions in this story had a massive ripple effect on the entire multiverse that everyone will see come into effect very soon.

The fact that people were able to not only play along with it, but play along with everything that spun off of it is why I have such a soft spot for this episode.

Season 1, Episode 12: Assassination Fleet by @Tori Himemiya

This episode I find is important because it set a precedent for the other roleplayers in regards to the emotion we can convey through this silly roleplay. The little arc portrayed via Koro-Sensei and him urging the Skylanders to kill him, despite it going against their ethics, and most importantly understanding WHY Koro-Sensei would have to die is the first case of a real moral dilemma. It's a first case of drama, and an emotional resolution as Sonic hits light speed for the very first time.

With Season 1 being a mostly simple story, this episode kind of planted the seeds for what would eventually become Seasons 2 and 3, and I look back on it fondly.

And there we have it, folks! The favorite episodes of Skylanders Dimensions as reported by our amazing community!

Are you ready to make a story of your own? There is still time to join the roleplay before we restart with Season 4 on April 28th!
