  • There's Rumors Of A New Sonic Mobile Game Releasing This Year!

I hope you like Fall Guys...

We're in that oh-so-familiar phase of the Sonic news cycle where the headlines are being dominated by rumors and offiical announcements confirmed by SEGA, a partner company, or a studio affiliated with them are few and far between. This latest example is no different. There's rumors going around that, with Sonic Dream Team's release now done, there will be another new Sonic mobile game releasing later this year.

The rumor comes from MbKKssTBhz5 on Twitter. If that name sounds familiar, that's because it is! This is the same person that accurately leaked the existence of Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Tactica before SEGA and Atlus officially announced them last year. So, this user does have a reliable record of leaks and insider information about unannounced games.

As for the rumor itself, it's not that descriptive. The Sonic mobile game being rumored will be a spinoff title that will be released on iOS and Android devices at some point later this year. As for the gameplay, all we know is that it is "similar to Fall Guys". Unfortunately, we don't know the name of the game. We also don't know who is involved with developing it, though fans are theorizing SEGA Hardlight are the ones most likely to be involved.

So, if this Sonic mobile game is real, when would this be announced? Well, they could announce it similar to Sonic Dream Team, where it was just randomly announced on social media. They could also wait until a Sonic Central broadcast to reveal it. Of course, E3 is dead now, so that is no longer a possibility. And even if E3 was still a thing, mobile games were rarely announced during the event, if at all.

Of course, all this assumes that this game is actually real. The truth is, we don't know. As long as there is no confirmation from SEGA or any other official source, it remains a rumor. So, as is usually the case when there is a rumor, the best thing to do is to keep an open mind on things and not jump to any conclusions until SEGA actually says anything about the matter.

    So an update to this

If I have to make a guess, it's either some third party company like Gameloft or, more likely, Rovio who is behind this project. We'll have to wait and see.

I'm not terribly familiar with Fall Guys aside from there being a multiplayer/last one standing focus. Is there anything else to it that they could be alluding to with this?

It could probably aim for more of a cute-esq artstyle or something more cartoony, but otherwise I'm not sure

I know Sonic Dash is like SEGA Hardlight's answer to Temple Run game (yes, I saw some differences btw), but will SEGA Hardlight had the upcoming Fall Guys style Sonic The Hedgehog game their answer to the original Fall Guys game? I might prefer to wait until the game will confirmed and until SEGA Hardlight and Sonic Team is figuring out how it will work.

Hardlight can't profit off of DreamTeam beyond whatever Apple promised them for maintenance updates, so it makes sense for there to be something else on the horizon.

Going to have to pivot off of Dash and SpeedBattle at some point. (although Dash may just be a forever game at this point)

Some more information on this game has dropped

This is NOT developed by Hardlight, but rather in-house by SEGA! The last time this had happened was with...Sonic Runners. 😬

The artstyle sounds interesting as well, blending two styles into one. Wonder how that'll look

    What does that even mean

It means, I’ll believe it when I see it!

All rumours should be treated as false until proven otherwise. Trust me, I’ve been burned by fake rumours before.

I'm always skeptical about free to play games especially after having played speed battle for a while and being frustrated as heck... but I've no problem with it if it's something slightly less toxic, such as rocket league or fall guys; there's some toxicity here and there in those games too, both coming from the players and from the developers, but it's nothing compared to the hell that was (and probably still is) speed battle, so I'm glad if Hardlight is not behind it.

Yeah, this is definitely interesting to hear! I hope it's true!

Also, if the gameplay is anything close to this, I'm in:

I love this mode, I still occasionally play it when it's available (it's not always in the game sadly).

I mean it said it will be a "Fall Guys" style of Sonic mobile game. But yeah, the gameplay might be similar to the video you sent, so it could be true on that, but I don't how Sega will gonna work with it.
