  • SEGA Hardlight And Ian Flynn Tease Upcoming Sonic Mobile Game Announcement

Seems that long-rumored new Sonic mobile game will soon be revealed

It appears that the long-rumored Sonic mobile platformer said to be in development at SEGA HARDlight, with a story penned by Ian Flynn, will soon be revealed. We know this thanks to a teaser posted by SEGA HARDlight on Twitter, showing a strange, purple cyberspace-esque stage and a single boost ramp and Buzzbomber. Later, Ian Flynn quote tweeted with his ever infamous #KnowingSmile, confirming his involvement in the project.

The game will be officially revealed at some point on November 1. You can check out the teaser image below:

Probably a new mobile game or something. Not getting my hopes up.

Knowing that this is Sega Hardlight we're talking about, I wouldn't expect anything other than yet another "Sonic Dash But With A Twist!", but Ian Flynn having some sort of involvement is enough to keep me interested, juuuuust a little biit because I dont like mobile games

Admittedly I'm more intrigued by what this means beyond said game. This is aligning with that leaked 2024 roadmap that said there was going to be a follow-up to Frontiers released next year.

Although that also comes with the caveat that they seem WAY too aggressive about making new Sonic games for console. Not necessarily something to be hyped for in a series known for dips in quality. The last couple of years have been mostly fine but I'm not confident enough to say they found a winning formula yet.

Hell, why not....I'll go there...."Sage Adventure" in which you play as sage in cyberapace. The story could be that she has to "escape" cyberspace to get bqck to Eggman as per the Original Frontiers Ending.

It's developed by Hardlight so I won't play it. The least competent developers who ever worked on the franchise don't deserve my time and effort.

That seems like a lot to put on them, how badly did they screw up in the past?

I personally am not sure what criteria I would attach to such a distinction so I couldn't tell you mine (it's not like Big Red Button didn't have SOME ingenuity, they're just way off the mark for what Sonic should be and released something ultra-buggy — inept and out of touch, maybe, but not enough to evaluate for competence).

@SolidSurgeTTI've been part of the Speed Battle player base for a few years, I know how they have zero respect for their players and use shady practices all the time.

I'd be happy if Sega got rid of them actually.

And their games are always glitchy, just a few days ago I've seen posts on Reddit of people who claimed that Sonic Dash crashed in the menu when they selected Espio or something... it's the same thing over and over, highly unstable games, very superficially programmed, full of issues (nothing has changed since when I abandoned Speed Battle).
