I'm gonna be honest, this was kind of a weak prologue. It felt like something that could've been told through text before the opening cutscene, and if anything it'd probably would've added more mystery to the game if it was.

The comic is still good don't get me wrong, but it doesn't really do much for me either?

It's promo material. All it's meant to do is draw attention to the game. Not everything needs to be Meet the Medic.

Well by that logic, the upcoming Knuckles animation is also just promo material, even though it's supposed to be a "prologue".

AKA: Something vital to the story of the game!

It's promo material because it's made for the game, but not actually in the game...it's an ad in the form of a comic.

That's literally all that means, it'll tell us the bare minimum of what we need to know going in of things important to the story...but since this is the type of thing that would naturally be implied during the game's actual story, it's more important that this comic just be an entertaining first introduction to story.

I doubt this is reaching much of anyone who isn't already plenty aware of the game. And if it is, there isn't really anything going on in it that would push people to pay attention to it.

It's certainly not hurting anything but it also doesn't feel like there's any reason for it besides that they could do it.

Metal Sonic doesn’t fill him with pride? Poor guy. I can see why Heroes happened then.

Art quality top notch as always, but the writing is so bad lmao.

I don’t think the writing is bad, I think it’s the pacing. This should have been twice the length, so the beats had time to land and breathe.

The top right panel has Eggman drastically shifting topics yet remaining in the same speech bubble. It’s not bad writing, but bad storytelling. However it probably wasn’t the creators faults, they were probably required to fit all these beats in just 8 pages, when 16 would have been more appropriate.

Comic is fine, if purposely superfluous. Sage is all but confirmed to be Eggman's creation now. Eggman should have wished for one of his robots to both obey him and actually be effective.

I don't know. We haven't really seen anything to suggest that Sage is going against Eggman's wishes in the game so far.

Uh what? I don't think SAGE is the AI in this comic. I think she's the "cyber-security".

The AI in the comic is A: making a fuss about something that isn't resolved within the comic itself, suggesting that it will be a plot point within the game proper and B: color coded in SAGE's colors for our convenience.

Anyway, on second read I noticed Eggman talks about wanting to feel pride in his creations. I'll guess that ties into what Flynn said about Frontiers showing off the more human side of Eggman.

My favourite thing about this prologue is how proactive Tails and Amy are, especially Tails. I know they’re like this in IDW from what I’ve seen, but it’s nice to see this seemingly being carried over to game related stuff too. At least I hope they play a more active roll in the Frontiers, even if they aren’t playable.

Otherwise, this setup is standard fair and I didn’t mind the “meme dialogue” honestly. It was obvious by the second line where they were going with that whole bit.

This reflects on how in IDW, Eggman has something of a proud father-son relationship with Metal Sonic.

I remember that Flynn said in bumblekast that this comic is nothing to do with the game and lately, Flynn point out he brings wrong with the sonic lore including with ” Sonic is Vegan” even tho he official sonic art that he cooking meat and in Unleashed he eat meat dumplings. Reading the comic that is just off.

The new character Sage, I truly truly feel there has to be some link with Infinite… mostly some power connections but I truly feel there is some link to Infinite. But who knows
