  • IDW Sonic #64 and Sonic the Hedgehog's 900th Adventure One-Shot Comics Both Out Today

Two sequential Sonic adventures out the same day? Pinch me!

With IDW’s Sonic release dates always getting shuffled around, I’ll admit that I rarely pay attention to what the final date is anymore. So it took me by surprise when I realized two Sonic comics were releasing the same day! A rare event to be sure.

Issue 64 sees Whisper and Silver try to deal with Mimic, whom they suspect is disguised as Duo, and a back up story that has Silver and Blaze reconnecting. Sonic’s 900th Adventure brings back the warp Topaz, as Sonic tries to bring it back to where it came from with some aid from his friends (and enemies). Check out preview pages and solicitations for each issue below:

    Sonic the Hedgehog #64:

    Quote

This issue is all about Silver the Hedgehog! First, he's incredibly suspicious of the Diamond Cutters' new member and he jumps to a conclusion that leads him to some hasty accusations. Awkwardness ensues. Then, Blaze comforts Silver as they bond over being away from home and in Sonic's world.

Features writing by Evan Stanley and Ian Flynn, with art by Evan Stanley and Mauro Fonseca. Cover A is by Jack Lawerence and Reggie Graham, Cover B is by Jennifer Hernandez, and Cover RI is by Nathalie Fourdraine. The comic has an MSRP of $3.99.

    Sonic the Hedgehog’s 900th Adventure

    Quote

Saving the world is a piece of cake when you're a speedy blue hedgehog. And Sonic is about to go on his 900th world-saving adventure! Sonic and his friends are playing a game of hot potato! Only the potato is the Warp Topaz and it could warp the whole world into oblivion. The gang is passing off the Warp Topaz in a relay race to get rid of it once and for all. Celebrate the mind-blowing 900th-issue milestone with superstars Ian Flynn, Evan Stanley, Caleb Goellner, Daniel Barnes, Aaron Hammerstrom, and returning Sonic writer Nigel Kitching as they participate in a relay race of their own, telling this story in six speed-racing, nail-biting, egg-kicking parts!

The comic has an MSRP of $7.99. Nigel Kitching, for those who don’t know, wrote for Fleetway’s Sonic the Comic. For a full list of the massive number of contributors, see the image below:

A shame I don't have the space (or time) to collect the Sonic comics anymore, but I might start investing in digital copies because that 900th Adventure one-shot is enticing me something fierce.

The dialog there is great. Sonic is a total cheezeball when he wants to be.

I now want a sonic game were the word spin is replaced with cheeze.Twice-graded-Cheese-Slices.thumb.jpg.2fe05b3de659c9d7ff4fbef176cba4d8.jpg

I find digital better precisely for being able to save space. Plus, you don’t have to worry about tears and rips.

Only downside is you have to wait later for them to release compared to the physical, so you’ll still be behind everyone else.

But yeah, go digital if need be.

I've only been collecting the big Volumes, so I definitely feel you about being waaaaaaaay behind :wheeze:

(grumbling) They knew that hostile shapeshifter is on the loose, and took literally no measures against him? Come on, at very least the buddy system - nobody go anywhere alone.

Should the whole planet stick to the buddy system? Because the "hostile shapeshifter on the loose" can be on a different continent and attack months later. Keep in mind he wasn't even after Whisper, it's a coincidence someone hired him to attack here.

People can't change their whole lives due to one person.

Don't bother, it wasn't very good. I recommend Scrapnik Island instead if you want something self-contained.

And personally I much prefer digital. If anything, no one sells Sonic IDW in Poland, so it's not like I have a (affordable) choice.

Well, the Restoration are (para)military organisation, and they knew for sure than Mimic have a tendency to go after Whisper. So at very least, they should took her suspicions seriously.

And basically yes, the hostile shapeshifter on the loose is a global problem. It's a breach of security of tremendous proportions, after all.

Yes, the moment Mimic showed up (or at least Whisper said so), everyone should get super serious and focus on that. That part is stupid, I agree

But you can't expect the whole world to change due to one villain.
One, there is no way to enforce it. Even Restoration would require massive changes.
Two, there are people who won't follow to rules (Sonic, Shadow, Knuckles) or physically show up out of nowhere (Silver, Blaze)
Three, I repeat, Mimic didn't plan to attack before getting hired. He could spend months on the beach, laughing at Restoration.
Four, Mobians don't have IDs or any other document or higher governments and the world post Forces and Metal Virus is kinda in chaos. How do you check if a newcomer looking for a job is Mimic? You can't keep cheeking everybody's alibi.
Five, Restoration is a loose organization. Its highest leader, Jewel, just walked in and asked if she could take over.
Six, Mobius is a complex world. You prepared for Mimic? Okay, what if he's caught and everyone chills, only to find out Neo Metal is back or new villain with shapeshifting attacks? What if Starline comes back and hypnotizes people? Or portal to an alternative dimension opens and evil Tails takes his place.

You can't prepare for every contingency in this mad world. Unless you're Batman or Nick Fury, but no one in Sonic franchise is on their lever.

I really enjoyed reading them! 900th adventure has amazing unite of all IDW Sonic artists, great to see that! But I think they could make the story a bit more epic:ezpost-laugh:

(And did anyone here catch the cameo in 64 issue? Vennie and Sicily from Evan Stanley's fancomic, Ghosts of the Future. They're canon now?!)
