What stages DON'T you want to see?

The main difference between Lava Reef and Crisis City is that Crisis City is post-apocalyptic with burning flesh and civilization and demons flying around everywhere. Lava Reef is in a volcano.

It's the implication of mass mortality.

And are both rather dark and hellish stages to boot. We're aware of those differences (except for the burning flesh, as you'd be opening a lot more doors in this argument than you would intend).

It's the implication of mass mortality.

Does that somehow make it inappropriate for Classic Sonic? Never mind how that angle could be abused should we go back to Angel Island and it's sheer destruction near the beginning, or even better Perfect Chaos flooding Station Square on screen and ruining the city. Now that's mass mortality from an initially lighthearted game.

What the fuck is everyone's problem with Carnival Night Zone? The place has fucking fantastic visuals and a hell of a lot of unique stage gimmicks at its disposal that in my book beats out even Casino Night as far as neon-lit nighttime stages goes. If that opportunity's spoiled solely because of this baseless paranoia over that one fucking barrel that even Sonic Team aren't stupid enough to bring back verbatim, I'm going to be extremely pissed off at you lot.

Most of the my personal choices are either based on redundancies (Wave Ocean, the entire level list of Sonic 4), on overrepresentation of one game (otherwise I would've liked to see some Scrap Brain, perhaps), or on levels that are just plain bland as far as visuals and/or gameplay is concerned (majority of '06 levels sans Crisis City, majority of Heroes sans Mystic Mansion). I'd rather not see Ice Cap for the same reason I didn't really want to see Green Hill - because it's overrated as fuck and I'm sick of hearing about it, but I know they're going to put it in anyway based off fan demand alone. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers.

Off topic, but SERIOUSLY??

what the heck am I doing to KEEP getting these bad reps? Like I said; I understand the first 14 bad reps, but what am I doing to get 21??

And the ting is it feels like your just giving me a bad rep for no reason!! I just logged off for like, 2 and a half hours, come back, and it's at -21! What the heck! Please, somebody tell me what I POSSIBLY could be doing!!

And are both rather dark and hellish stages to boot.

It's the implications that matter. I mean, we're talking the inside of a volcano vs the crime-scene of the end of humanity.

We're aware of those differences (except for the burning flesh, as you'd be opening a lot more doors in this argument than you would intend).

Are you implying that nobody died in that fire? :I

I think it's inappropriate for kids... but that may be my religious viewpoint creeping in. :/

I didn't think the Perfect Chaos scenario was necessary, either. Death by water is no better than death by fire. Death is death. Actually, if everyone died, who's cheering Sonic's name at the end? As for Angel Island, it would be a more powerful argument if it wasn't for the fact that Knuckles was the lone inhabitant. Trees are burning. Gasp. It's sad, but it's not the death of humanity.

Those implications do not negate the fact that it is not impossible to picture Classic Sonic in an environment like that.

Are you implying that nobody died in that fire? :I

Nope. Just warning you that taking that route will have me use it against you if I get the chance. :P

I think it's inappropriate for kids... but that may be my religious viewpoint creeping in. :/

Kids have seen far worse than that and either overlooked it or not bothered by it. This is mild by comparison, especially in this day and age where there's tons of media that go further without going past the PG-13 rating. Not to mention that kids are only part of the intended audience for this game.

Then there's Disney movies and other shows practically for kids which can get away with even darker elements. Want me to go down the list? I've done it once before.

I didn't think the Perfect Chaos scenario was necessary, either. Death by water is no better than death by fire. Death is death.

And yet it wasn't inappropriate for kids, or scarring enough to be inappropriate. Very mild in comparison to other media which either go further or are on the very same level.

Actually, if everyone died, who's cheering Sonic's name at the end?

Survivors, obviously. With that in mind, it's not too farfetched to think there are survivors in Crisis City. We just don't see them, just like we don't see them after Chaos floods Station Square.

As for Angel Island, it would be a more powerful argument if it wasn't for the fact that Knuckles was the lone inhabitant. Trees are burning. Gasp. It's sad, but it's not the death of humanity.

And the wildlife, don't forget about that. We're talking the burning of all those cute critters...you can't be that heartless. :P

I guess. If these kids can frag one another in Call of Duty, what's the point? :/

We hear the survivors in Sonic Adventure. And Sonic X does attempt to reconcile this by showing them evacuate last minute. With Crisis City, it's supposed to be the end of the world, no questions asked. If there were survivors... well. Uh. Silver and Blaze. Guh. Nevermind.

And the wildlife, don't forget about that. We're talking the burning of all those cute critters...you can't be that heartless. :P

Too busy worrying about the ones I saved then killed over Sky Chase Zone. Seriously, why am I saving turtles and chickens?! C'mon Sonic Team, couldn't you have used Locky and Flicky?! ;_;

I still stand by my opinions, though. The Crisis City scenario shouldn't have happened in the first place, and Lava Reef, while being a very intimidating location, is nowhere near as grim as Sonic 2006's apocalyptic level.

Marble Zone I'm only against because I feel like stages like Aquatic Ruin and Kingdom Valley (especially) do that motif considerably better.

Emerald Hill is an absolutely horrible stage choice for Sonic Generations because it's essentially Green Hill with everything interesting stripped out of it.

Marble Garden is a terrible stage and should never be picked over any other Sonic 3 stage. Can't stand it. Literally any stage would be better.

I don't want any stages from Sonic Heroes (unless that stage is Hang Castle or Mystic Mansion, which won't be picked), but I know there's going to be one so I'm just going to have to deal with it. Ocean Palace I'd be okay with. Seaside Hill can go to hell for all I care.

Dusty Desert and Tropical Jungle would be lame because like Marble Zone, there are other stages that do the same motif better. Those being Sandopolis and Angel Island, of course.

That's about it, really.

More or less, I was just kidding, I think it's a fine level. An HONEST reason why I don't want it to show up is simply because Sonic 3 has far more unique and better stages to offer. Angel Island, Hydrocity, or Ice Cap would make great choices in my opinion, while Carnival Night seems like a rather basic circus-themed level. It's not exactly a "casino" theme, but so many other level that are a similar style throughout the franchise's history would make a better choice in my opinion, such as Twinkle Park, Casino Park/Bingo Highway, or even Eggmanland, though that's quite a stretch... I just think that it's simply lacking compared to what we could get in its place, is all.

I don't want to see any of the bosses from any of the MegaDrive games - they were tacky, buggy, either far too easy or far too hard, (this fluctuated wildly in Sonic 1 and 2) and generally not all that fun to plough through. I far preferred the bosses from the Adventure and Rush titles, myself...

As far as actual stages go, I'd rather not see anything else from Sonic 1 put into the game instead of the zones' alternatives from later titles; for example, Marble Garden as opposed to Marble Zone, Metropolis Zone as opposed to Scrap Brain Zone, and Emerald Hill Zone as opposed to...

Oh.

Anus.

It's still totally out of place to put things related to the Apocalypse, The End of the World, Antichrist, Revelations, omens, etc. on a children's video game. That sort of thing belongs on a Teen, Mature game, in my opinion.

And just because children happen to play games such as Call of Duty and witness the sadness and violence in the world doesn't mean we should totally have adult-like topics in E games. If so, why should the ESRB rating exist anyway? No, it's the parents's fault for being so reckless with their children when buying these games.

Pixar is Pixar. They create movies in order to attract both children and adults, with its comedy and separate topics. For example, Toy Story 3 has children's toys, funny moments, and other things that can have kids laughing for hours. However, I heard plenty of sex jokes in there, too. (What I understood out of it.) Just because it has sex jokes in it, doesn't mean that it's for kids to handle with.

What's the difference between Adult topics in children's movies and E games where the story's a bit too dark?

Simple.

Usually, they manage to obscure those topics pretty well in these movies. However, in games like the Sonic Adventure series, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Sonic 2006 make the End of the World, provoking the death of all people in it, obvious, as it's canon.

That's my take on it. And note, I'm not religious; I'm Agnostic. :P

EDIT: Dun goof'd in some parts. :P

We know there's survivors in Crisis City since it's stated by Sega that Silver isn't the only psychic flying around in his world. The fact that he and Blaze even exist is also probably proof enough that many people survived the initial disaster and that their family lines managed to keep alive 200 years into the entire thing.

Pffft. None of that stuff is too mature for children to handle. We're not talking about orgies or gratuitous violence. The end of the world or even threats to end the world aren't elements that are reasonably frightening to most children.

And it's ironic too. You say the Sonic games are only for children and others will say he's too light-hearted to have death be an element in a storyline, but the moment Simon Jeffrey said or was misconstrued into saying that Sonic games are only appealing to twelve year olds, almost every fan on the Internet wanted his head on a platter while screaming, "Sonic is supposed to be for everyone, not just kids!" You lot can't have it both ways.

I know what the Apocalypse is, but the term "apocalypse" isn't only applicable in a Christian context. In general, it just means "the end of the world," and an apocalypse, threats of the apocalypse, as well as post-apocalyptic time periods have been framed in so many fictitious scenarios and mythologies aimed squarely at children that it's more thrilling than genuinely frightening to them nowadays.

And although I was speaking generally about a particular irony I noted, you actually did say that end of the world and Biblical elements don't belong on a "children's video game" which, in the context of the current discussion, clearly referred to the Sonic series.

EDIT: I just saw your call to take it to PMs instead. Fine with me. xP

The Apocalypse pretty much is the murder of the planet Earth and all those that live inside it, neatly manufactured by a certain malignant being is much worse than gratuitous violence. In fact, it's the former and beyond. ;)

Stages that I don't want to see?

Sonic 1: Labyrinth, Marble, probably Starlight

Sonic 2: Goddamn Aquatic Ruin, and Oil Ocean.

Sonic 3: Angel Island

Plus any 06 or Heroes stage (sans Egg Fleet).

Anyway, I'd be interesting to see Mad Gear in 3D version.

Just thought I'd come back for a second round. :'V

Sonic1- (Tooken.)

Sonic2- You should know.

Sonic3- Carnival. Not ONLY because of the barrel, just felt so... Scrunched up and closed for a game. Like it limited my speed or mobility. Felt a little slow, better put. But that's me.

Sonic4- There probably won't be anything in there from here.

Sonic3DBlast- Nothing. I don't like this game.

SonicCD-.. Pretty good game overall. Anything will float my boat. :3

SonicDX-

Speed Highway- City stages already Tooken. Sorry, Highway!!

Emerald Coast- It was just to dull, generic and boring. To me.

Put simply... All I want is that Red Mountain, Final Egg, or windy Valley. Or Lost something.

Sonic Adventure 2- Seriously SEGA?? City Escape? Looks awesome as fuck, but other stages had more potential!

Sonic Heroes- GREATEST GAME EVER. WANT IT ALL IN!!

Sonic 06- Great Game. Want it all in.

Sonic Unleashed- (Tooken.)

Sonic Colors.-Good Game.

I really don't like anything from Sonic Heroes level wise. The levels were waaay too long. Granted they are going to redesign them anyway.

AW. I'm uber sadface at everyone's hatred of Oil Ocean. Is no one seeing how FUCKING awesome it'd look updated and in 3D? Blistering hot orange skies with a massive never-ending ocean of MUTHA FUCKIN' OIL?! Structures and shizz jutting out of this sizzling pit of one of Eggman's most messed up environment destructions?! Seeing these structures as silohuttes in the far distance alla Donkey Kong Country Returns in a way?!

Oil_Ocean_Zone_by_Nahte27.jpg

oil_ocean_zone__by_dantemustdie00-d3a4b01.jpg

I am disappoint, >(. Oil Ocean is glorious. *I'm ignoring the character in that second pic lawl*

---

Anyways, stages I don't want to see? The given: no more hill or city zones. I'd rather see as much varity as possible honestly, not just supporting the most popular stages. Why? because most of the most popular stages seem to be under the same visual category, being mostly these two. But besides this, I'd specifically would like to exclude:

Sonic 1: Thinking about it, everything actually, O_o. All these themes could be represented better in later games I think. I think GHZ does it's justice for this game anyways, no matter how many times we are fed it.

Sonic CD: Probably everything but the Speedway. I think that's a city if I recall, but I just can't see CD being anything but this still, but that's just me.

Sonic 2: I love so many of these stages XD! But if I had to choose, I'd actually like to leave out Casino Night and Chemical Plant Zone. Why? I just feel like other stages from this game could be better and more unique. Oil Ocean, Death Egg Zone (that first boss would be epic 8D), or even a Sky Chase + Wing Fortress would be way cooler than those two.

Sonic 3: TBH, I think any stage could work, so I wouldn't dismiss any. The fight with Eggman in Marble Garden would be awesome, and that vast view in the background on this level would be win, especially if you could see Marble Zone in the distance somewhere.

Sonic and Knuckles: Mushroom Hill, Sandopolis, and the Death Egg. I wouldn't argue if they were chosen, but I'd just rather not, since I'd like the other stages from this game honestly.

Sonic Adventure: no hills or cities and I'll be fine, 8D.

Sonic Adventure 2: I don't think they're will be more, but for kicks, I don't want Green Forest, but I want it's music SO HARD.

Heroes: TBH, I don't remember much of this game, D;. *mauled*. But once again, not beaches, hills, cities, etc.

06: Everything but Radical Train or Kingdom Valley.

Secret Rings: Hmm. I actually think any level would be neat, =3. Though, if Sandopolis is chosen for whatever reason, I wouldn't want the first level of Secret Rings (the sand one, not the boring hallway of nothingness). If this game is even represented, there needs to be Big in it btw, XD.

Unleashed: Holoska, Apotos, Shamar, Eggman Land. I love Holoska, but I'm still a poor sucker for Ice Cap, not matter how popular Ice Cap and arguably bland Ice Cap is, <3.

Colors: I actually don't want Planet Wisp, however, I'm not pissed if it's chosen. I'd just rather have something else, ^^".

So yeah, there's my long opinion, XD. I just kinda wanted to post this much just for myself as well as showing others, XD.

This one is alot easier than stages I want to see.

Sonic 1- A hard one because I like all the Levels in the game, I suppose if push came to shove I'd have to go for Marble Zone only because all the other levels would look and feel better in the Hedgehog engine.

Sonic 2- Probably has to go to Hill Top Zone I never really cared for it. The music was pretty unique but earthquakes and lava don't sound like much fun to me.

Sonic3&K- Sky Sanctuary I really do feel this level is damn overrated. The music is pretty cool and I like the whole floating island feel and loved the sound the bouncy clouds made it was adorable lol. I do feel that it's the worst in the S&K portion of the game, However if it meant a cameo or battle with Mecha Sonic then I'd gladly make a compromise.

Sonic Adventure- Casinopolis I really couldn't see it working at all in either style of gameplay. Maybe if they did laps and they tallied each sections rings or something? Nah can't see it.

Sonic Adventure 2- I'll assume they are only using Sonic and Shadow levels. It would definatley be Radical Highway, The level is fine and it's probably one of my SA2 favourites but I really think Speed Highway will be used for SA1, So Radical Highway will practically be in the game already, Just without the Golden Gate bridge.

Sonic Heroes- Seaside Hill has been used enough recently in Sega Tennis and the 3 courses for Sega Racing. I really don't want to see it again despite it's awesomeness.

Sonic 06- Wave Ocean but that's too easy. So I'll go for White Acropolis the name is cool, But the level is bland as all Hell and the likelihood of a snowboarding section would bring back painful memories.

Unleashed- That's hard since I have a huge fan crush on this game, I honestly can't think of one sorry.

Colours- Again tricky but I'll go with Aquarium Park since I found the water combined with the Oriental theme a bit odd overall. It's not a good reason granted but again I loved all the levels from Colours.

Everything in Sonic '06 with the exception of a highly revamped Kingdom Valley or Radical Train. Every other level in that game already has multiple superior alternatives as far as both tropes and level design goes. Kingdom Valley andRadical Train aren't GOOD by any means, but they at the very least had somewhat decent ideas going for them. Kingdom Valley's cascading waterfall section and the train chase in Radical Train were kinda cool, seeing SEGA adapt one of those into something not shitty would be cool to see.
