Again, the boost mode is very much like a sprint button, but here's a bombshell that highlights a big difference between them;

With the boost mode being automatic, and thus only viable in speed sections, most other areas where you'd want to pick up speed would require you to utilize the spindash and rolling!

As nice as that sounds, something about it just feels wrong. It's like putting a disguise on regular gameplay switching, except it could happen to you when you don't want it to.

The sprint button and the spindash certainly arn't interchangable either. Loosening up Sonic's movement and increasing his top speed is not going to help him climb a hill from the very base no matter how hard you tried. As for rolling, well it's just always been faster than Sonic's top speed.

Still, there is merit to what you say. I can see how a sprint button detracts from the necesity of pinball physics.
