Best/Worst Character Design

Have to agree with you on Rouge. She's a nice character, but the sexiness doesn't really belong in a Sonic game. It's kinda creepy, honestly.

I find it funny how people complain about Rouge having boobs, but then forget the entire cast are anatomically incorrect; I understand Rouge's design pushes the boundaries of child friendliness in the series, but that probably the entire point of her character. I dunno, I just hate how people give Rouge flak simply for being more sexualized than the rest of the cast.

Rouge's design may be a bit much, but if you're creeped out by it...I dunno man maybe you gotta come to terms with sexuality.

You gotta wonder what is his stance on characters like Krystal from Starfox and Carmelita from Sly Cooper if he has issues with Rouge, who frankly is much more covered up compared to the above mentioned.

Well Rouge is the Femme Fatale character, so there's at least an in-story reason for her sultriness, don't know about the other two.

To be honest I'm not fond of Rouge's design either, but not because of the tits. Her head design is so bland that it seems bald at times, and the jumpsuit...I don't know why, but the jumpsuit comes off as boring. Maybe it's the fact that there's a black expanse where nothing is there to catch the eye and this doesn't really go well with the long expanses of non-detail from her gloves and boots.

Best is Blaze worst has got to be Wave the Swallow. She has nothing that makes her design likeable. And Blaze is just pure awesome in every way. Just about everything is great about her design.

Yeah, I think all this overanalyzing on Rouge's character as a sex symbol just because she has boobs is kinda silly.

But that's the thing. She's sexualised, others aren't. Regardless of whether they're anatomically correct or not, I still think it's just a little weird for them to sexualise not just a video game character, but a humanoid bat creature thing. If anything I'd prefer it to he be a human character they were sexualizing; at least it wouldn't push the idea that Rouge is trying to be sexy.

I wouldn't say Rouge creeps me out, but I would say that it seems like a strange thing to do, much like applying the same bouncing physics to Sonic and Shadow's quills was a strange thing to do. It does go one step further with Rouge in that I can't help but wonder if I'm looking at someone's masturbatory fantasy, though.

Isn't Rouge partially based on Morrigan? If so, then her design makes sense at least as a shout out.

I'll say:

Oh hi there Eternal Slumber pose.

Morrigan? Who's that?

Really now, absolutely everything is someone's masturbatory fantasy, so complaining about Rouge is kind of silly.

People will fap to cartoon bats, old people playing chess or pictures of rocks laying in a meadow. It doesn't matter what it is, it's somebody's fetish.

tl;dr version: Rule 34 will always happen.

Sorry if I bumped into something but....

Morrigan is a character from Darkstalkers, she's rather infamous. She's a succubus with a bat theme going on in case you were wondering. She was in all the Marvel vs Capcom games btw.

But anyways I don't think Rouge is a shout out to Morrigan though. I could see kind of see it slightly but no, she looks more like a bat with boobs. Originality factor I suppose.

Edit: Going through my photobucket I forgot I had...

That's what Morrigan looks like. So its up to you see the likeness in their design.

Honestly, it's just ridiculous how people take such an issue with non-human characters looking sexy. Nevermind the fact that even if they made it a human character they were sexualizing, it would still push the idea of a character trying being sexy and you'd end up taking issue with that instead.

Also, nevermind the fact that Rule 34 would render that moot anyway.

Like I said before, I don't consider it morally wrong or anything, but it still seems like an odd choice to make in terms of designing of characters. Besides, Rouge isn't really much personality-wise outside of your stereotypical "sly sexy spy" type, and honestly, I find her lacking in personality because of it. If her physical appearance had been different, then it's quite possible that her personality might have been changed to suit it too.

See, when it's just a shallow reason like that, then it makes for a shitty character.

Sex sells, I honestly don't what else to say. Rouge was introduced in Sonic Adventure 2, which was the period when the series was getting progressively darker and it was exemplified with the introduction of Shadow & Rouge, two of the more "mature" characters. I think people should stop over analyzing things, and looks past her chest. I mean god, are we so shallow that the mere presence of breasts on an animal is enough to send everyone in a tizzy? When I was 8, I hardly noticed her chest at all.

It's not as if they're including actual sex in the series, or even porny poses or anything. I don't think having a "sexy" character is really a terrible thing; sex and sexuality are a natural part of life and should be considered maturely, not shied away from.

Admittedly "big bouncing bat tits" is not a particularly mature way to go about it, but there's nothing wrong with a character having breasts and whose sexuality is a part of their character.

No, and it doesn't prove a particularly big issue with me either. My main two problems is that - while it isn't creepy - it seems just in general like an odd thing to do, and I find that adding a bat character with tits as a more prominent part of her figure and jiggle physics aren't a great way to go about attempting to make the games respectably mature. And as I said before, sexuality doesn't seem to be just a part of her character, but rather it seems focused on it to me, and in a pretty shallow, stereotypical way.

Rouge with her typical "femme fatale" persona sure is a shallow stereotype but i find nothing wrong with that since pretty much every character in the series is a shallow stereotype of one kind or another.

I suppose. But I think it's a more "trashy" stereotype.

Good:

Sonic. Tails, Eggman, Amy (aside from her continuously flashing her panties at us), Knuckles, Espio, Nack/Fang, Blaze, etc, etc, etc...

Bad:

Shadow (recolo(u)r!), Eggman Nega (recol(u)r!), Rouge, and I don't feel like listing the rest.

They wanted a sexy spy/thief, so they made her sexy. Maybe a little odd for this series, but it was during a time when the series was trying to act more mature.

Besides, Rouge isn't really much personality-wise outside of your stereotypical "sly sexy spy" type, and honestly, I find her lacking in personality because of it.
Everyone in this series is a stereotype, and if Rouge is any worse off it's got more to do with them not treating her as her own person after SA2, not what archetype she's drawn from.

and I find that adding a bat character with tits as a more prominent part of her figure and jiggle physics aren't a great way to go about attempting to make the games respectably mature.
Yeah and I agree with that, but that was SA2; her proportions aren't as ridiculous anymore and she doesn't jiggle wildly.

And as I said before, sexuality doesn't seem to be just a part of her character, but rather it seems focused on it to me, and in a pretty shallow, stereotypical way.
Again, "shallow" and "stereotypical" make up the bulk of the series.

I suppose. But I think it's a more "trashy" stereotype.
What has she done that's trashy? Seriously.
