Sorry for the delay, good readers! As you likely noticed, the site went down for a brief spell today because goblins, so this couldn’t go up during a Freak-Out Friday on-time as planned. But hey, at least now we’re back on track!
During last week’s Mash-Up Monday, I proposed the idea of hosting a fun little photoshop contest here at The Sonic Stadium, and the response I received was absolutely bonkers. The theme was “Sonic Storybook,” based on the pair of Wii games that threw Sonic into the worlds of the Arabian Nights and King Arthur respectively, where you all had to throw together a box art with the idea of adding Sonic into a storybook of some kind. The best part of it? Just about anything goes. And you all answered in kind!
A lot of these entries went above and beyond my expectations, so it’s high time we show them off properly. Check them out below!
It’s been one year since the SSMB community stream channel “Motobug” was founded, hosting everything from movie nights to streams of Nintendo Directs and PlayStation Live, as well as marathons of old Sonic Saturday morning cartoons. To commemorate this occasion and to celebrate everything Sonic, SSMB, and Motobug, forum user and channel co-founder Ryannumberonegamer will be hosting a “Sonic Musical Spectacular” (unrelated to the TSS Blackout remix project by DJ EAR) this Saturday at 5pm GMT (1pm EDT)!
The Sonic fanbase can be a creative lot. There’s a wealth of content to be discovered from talented fans who create wonderful things. You’ll find pieces of stunning fan art, creative original animated series and ambitious fangames which rival the quality of even some of Sonic Team’s best. Games like Sonic: After The Sequel come to mind, with a wealth of unique well designed zones, an incredible original soundtrack and tons of creative new gimmicks. It’s hard to think of many other fanbases which match the unrivalled passion of Sonic’s. Continue reading 11 Sonics Drawn Badly, by SSMB
A community project by SSMB to produce a powerhouse Sonic music album like no other. Sound familiar? Lead by :: DJ EAR :: with the blessing of our very own VizardJeffhog (leader of the popular TSSMA albums of the previous few years), “Sound of The Sonic Stadium” is releasing this month! Featuring twenty artists and over thirty tracks which equals to over two hours of wonderful music, SoTSS is no doubt an ambitious feat which will maintain the spirit of TSSMA.
:: DJ EAR :: says that the goal of the album was to “maintain the fun, creative, collaborative spirit of that project [TSSMA] – while building a stable & productive future for our community of fan musicians, producers, and listeners”. Members could submit up to two tracks over a three month period in terms of music, and the more arty members could supply album art, logos or any other visuals to aid the project as well. The album’s theme was centered around the phrase “out of the ashes”.
One minute previews for nine of the tracks on the album are now available via SoundCloud for your listening pleasure! Make sure that you give it a listen and follow the project on any of their official outlets to be the first to know when the album drops. And of course, we at TSS will be there to help you stay up to date on the project as well. Keep your eyes open for it later this month!
UPDATE: It’s been officially announced that #SoTSS14 will be releasing Friday, November 28th! The release will follow a listening party hosted by Rexy over on RadioSEGA. Make sure it’s marked in your calendars folks – we’ll be tweeting as we approach the date too!
Welp, it’s that spooky time of year again, when kids dress up as monsters and go door to door for free candy, when adults marathon horror movies, when spooky, scary skeletons send shivers down your spine… or when Sonic fans dust off their consoles and ain’t gonna let it get to them; they’re just gonna creep down in Pumpkin Hill in order to find their lost piece!
And that is exactly what we’re sharing with you today, for the fine folks at the Sonic Stadium Message Board have come together this holiday to sing a fabled Halloween carol: A Ghost’s Pumpkin Soup, by Tomoya Ohtani and Hunnid-P!
I shed a tear… That was utterly magnificent. Great job, SSMB, great job. I tip my hat to you all for participating!
Makes you want to join a future The SSMB Sings, doesn’t it? You can even download this disasterpiece for yourself! Just right click, then hit save on the link.
In any case, before we close off October, here are a few other spoopy recommendations~!
Happy 12th Anniversary to The Sonic Stadium! And hey, you know what this calls for!?
To commemorate this occasion, TitansCreed turns the Community Spotlight on us this time! To those unknowing, the Community Spotlight is when Pete highlights individuals or groups who have made an impact in the SEGA/Sonic fandom.
So, to celebrate our anniversary, joining him as the discussion leads to The Sonic Stadium’s history and impact in the fandom is no one but the head honcho of TSS himself – the mother-loving Sonical Batman and the founding father of the site, Svend “Dreadknux” Joscelyne!
In 2 posts today at the SSMB Steve Lycett Executive Producer at Sumo Digital has spoken out regarding some files in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, first shared by nineko at Sonic Retro and then searched through 12 days ago by imarafan at the SSMB who found some unused voice clips in the files. The voice clips referenced a mirror mode and a rivals mode.
Here’s what Steve had to say on the matter –
I was going to reply to that post too, but I think I’d been to the boozer and couldn’t quite type properly when I saw it 🙂
As with all games, we recorded the commentary quite early on, so we recorded more than we planned to use, with some alternatives in case we made any late changes. Some things didn’t make it into the game, or made it in but in a different form.
The rivals one is quite interesting, what we *used* to do is have each character having a defined rival, so of course as Sonic, your rival would be Eggman. If you beat them in a GP, you’d get something extra. In the end we took this out as it wasn’t massively intuitive or clear, though… It still will give you a few extra miles even now for beating Eggman as Sonic in a race (or indeed any of the rivals we picked!)
If you’re expecting the un-used commentary to be used for DLC though, you’re barking up the wrong tree 😛
Well, that was part of the problem, it’s not immediately clear for some characters who their rival would be…
Ryo though has Jacky and Akira as his rivals, all martial artists, you see. You’re right about Samba and AiAi though 😛 I can’t remember off the top of my head who we had Beat have as a rival. Bear in mind of course, we considered these friendly rivalries 😛
Reverse tracks were something we originally planned to do, but as you’ve probably guessed, most of the tracks wouldn’t work the other way around due to some the jumps. We decided to focus on making them all fun the right way around! So if you do grab those VO clips that TSSZ has rather cheekily posted, now you know why 🙂
SSMB Member Doctor Eggman has been researching all Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing media and his eagle eyes have may have uncovered another Jet Sed Radio Future track and another Final Fortress track too.
Doctor Eggman’s report from his SSMB post is below –
Could the sunset level be a third JSRF track? The unknown sunset level has the same red/white road blocks as the daytime Shibuya-Cho level. Take a look:
Could there be TWO Final Fortress tracks? Differing times of day has made it clear that there are more than 1 JSRF track, so how about differing weather conditions in the Final Fortress footage? Take a peek:
Dark and stormy weather in these clips:
And BLUE BLUE skies in this clip:
Credit again goes to Doctor Eggman at the SSMB for the heads up!
Sumo Digital’s Steve Lycett under his S0L nickname has informed everyone via the SSMB that the special announcement planned for this week regarding Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing might be delayed until next week now.
Rumour has it the announcement that was due this week – will be next week instead BTW. Apologies for being a tease on this, like I say, I’m not in charge of PR and Marketing 🙂
If it has been delayed at least it’s only another week and with that week being closer to Christmas you could say it’s a Christmas present from Sumo Digital. Now what could the announcement be…
Just a quick update, the TSS Competition’s over and done with. Winners have been picked! Congrats to the winners and well done and thanks to all those peeps who have taken part and entered. The response was great, but slightly timid, which could be applied to the amount of effort needed to do to enter – usually something I don’t do, but I thought it’d be fun to do something elaborate, y’know?
Competition 1: Where you had to take pictures of you celebrating TSS one way or another.
Top Prize: Psychobob
Runner-up: Sonic Neo
Booby Prize: Flash2000
By the time you read this, the world’s best loved Sonic community will return in all it’s former glory – it’s been a troublesome last month or so (had it really only been that short a time?) but the SSMB has shifted course from the ezBoard back onto local servers. No Ads. No Slowdown. Just classic SSMB. Make sure you read the rules before you actually register (it’s on the first page you see actually, so there’s no reason not to), and make sure you can actually type half decent and not like a dribbling baby.
Anyway, in other news, Sega Sonic Radio’s website will be revamped during the weekend, and then the first words on The Sonic Site Awards 2004 will be announced! Bet you cannae wait. Anyway, the new SSMB and SSR will tide you over the whole weekend and Bank Holiday, and then some, so enjoy what there is for now. Tata. ^_^
This ezBoard’s changed a bit, innit? o_O;
Just a shame I can’t mess about with the templates, or make this a sticky topic. Ah well.
The reason, if you need another one, of why we’re here is the fact that obviously everyone must be getting REALLY pissed off with the hacker (not even worthy of a mentioning of the name) spamming you, changing your username and whatnot.
We’re fed up with it too. The ezBoard is pretty rock solid. It’s all on a free networked server, available to all to post and stuff. The ezBoard staff would knacker ‘Slimy G’ (wow, what a name, I wish I thought of it) before he got a chance. Continue reading Well, here’s our refuge for now…
SSMB member, Mad Ad, talked exclusively to Dreadknux about the almost damn-near certainty of a Fighting Fan Game, including members of the SSMB. Dreadknux has given Mad Ad permission to use the SSMB and TSS name in this Fan Game, along with sprites of his character.
The plan for the fighting game is not one large game, it is lots of small instalment-like games, with each instalment being a match. Each game will be small, as it will be part of an ongoing fighting series. There is a league planned using this format style.
The way it is planned to play is very much like a basic form of Smash Bros. Characters will have a limited attack range, but scenery in stages will provide many inventive ideas for other methods of attack. Continue reading SSMB Fighting Game?
¬¬ It’s true, peeps. I made an announcement not too long ago about it.
The Sonic Stadium account – and unfortunately, the SSMB with it – went down under. No, not Australia, but actually 6 feet under.
Why? How? When? Tea Time? Even I don’t have the foggiest. The 404 Error just… appeared. o_O
I’m hoping it’s not a hacker – but there’s several things that point out to it being one.
The Sonic forum gets ‘accidently’ deleted of forum posts – all of them.
Mimi_Ausa’s account ‘suddenly’ gets deleted.
TSS and the SSMB ‘get DNS problems’ – when in actual fact the whole thing’s gone completely.
The fact is, is that even though I know I have the account, a whosis lookup showed that my domain doesn’t even exist, or is owned by anyone (it should say it’s owned by HostOnce).
Let’s just hope it is a DNS problem… I don’t think there’s any chance of recovery of files, but at least I backed up almost all of the TSS files on me HD – exception is only the SSMB, which my last backup was a few months ago X_x So, if we return back to normality, it’ll be at a 2-3 month cost at the MB.
Hey there, ezBoard SSMB. It’s me, Dreadknux. You know? The guy that looked after you for the past 2 years. Wow, 2 years, has it really been that long? Seemed to go really fast!
The whole place is deserted now, so it’s just me on my own. Everyone has gone to the new SSMB – the YaBB. Can’t say I won’t miss this place – there are certainly some things I will miss however.
I thought I’d just place one final ‘log’ here, so that if this board is _still_ active in a few years time, people can defrost you, and look at all the messages of yesteryear. Kinda like those ‘messages from the past’ thingies where you slap a message in a capsule and it shouldn’t be opened until 20 years time.
The YaBB SSMB is practically the same as it always has been, but aside from the annoyingness of it all, ezBoard has been quite cool for a starter MB. I remember all of the names this place was under, still – Sonic Stadium MB, Dreadknux’s Forum… even the ‘Dead Sonic Message Board’ when I got really depressed last year. Before the re-launch of the Sonic Stadium in 2001. Continue reading ezBoard: The Last Ever Post…
I haven’t ‘touched it up’ yet – as in some graphics are not Sonic-y etc. But to be honest I don’t have time to fanny about with graphics and other small things at the moment. What matters is that the board works! Choice!
The reason you may think I’m lazing off is not for that, it’s because I have a bigger errand to sort out – The Sonic Stadium. It absolutely must must MUST be re-launched by 24th October (the ‘Stadium’s 2nd birthday) – I’ll never forgive myself otherwise >_< So, sorry but until that’s all outta the way, the SSMB won’t have the extras lavished upon it – I hope you all understand my time constraints here. 🙂
OK then, I’d like EVERYONE to take notice of this Announcement. I don’t want anybody left clueless or left behind on the whole ‘leaving ezBoard’ thing.
I notice a few of you (be they newbie or regulars) that haven’t a clue what is going on. This topic is to inform you exactly what is going on, and the information you need to know about. For people who already know about the move, this topic is simply to re-instate the fact that I am serious about leaving the ezBoard.
This post is mostly about the history of this place, but PLEASE read through it – that way you will understand WHY we need to move to a better and new Message Board program, and why I am so eager for you to move to a new board as of next week. Continue reading Important Announcement Regarding Move
I know we’ve all had this conversation before, but I am serious this time. We need a change from ezBread. Period.
Now, I don’t know whether I’ve told any of you this yet, but in the next month or so, The Sonic Stadium is getting new hosting facilities. I don’t mean simply moving to a better ‘free’ host, I’m talking the _real deal_ here – and we owe thanks to Zifei, founder of Sonic HQ, no less.
Now, when we get the go ahead to move the ‘Stadium there, the facilities there will give us the opportunity to host a Message Board of our own – no free ezBoard or anything like that, because it can handle the most trivial of PHP and MySQL (prolly means nothing to you – let’s just say these are what you need to have your ‘own’ MB).
*EDIT* I tried posting a longer version of this topic not two minutes ago – but EzBread shat up (AGAIN) and lost my post >____< I can’t be biffed to go into any more detail than I have to now…
The SBS was quite popular when it was first unveiled, but now there seems to be less and less interest for it. I’m asking you lot, where do you think we should go with the RPG now?
Option 1: Call it a day. Say “It was fun while it lasted” and shut down the Sonic Battle Stadium. A piece of SSMB History would have ended, but never forgotten.
Option 2: Continue with the SBS in a vain attempt to pull back popularity. We can either make more or less rules to make the place more interesting, or if you like, even bring back the good old ‘Level Ups’ System.
Option 3: Close down The Sonic Battle Stadium, but come up with an all-new RPG game to play on the SSMB, using a different type of way to play rather than beating each other to pulp – I think less people are willing to land themselves into mortal combat nowadays, even if it is fictional.
So…. what are your thoughts? Reply to this topic, with your opinion and an explanation of why you think that option is the best choice.
I like to think that the Sega Sonic Message Board is good to all members here, in the fact that this place is a sanctuary for anyone to speak their mind about anything, be it Sonic, cheese or…. erm, stuff.
But, due to an event happening on another board (that I stopped going to, yet lurked for quite a bit…. rest assured I ain’t going back there anymore), something made my head whirr, and click something.
See, that board I visited claimed to be liberal, and it was, mostly. It offered freedom of speech, and one of it’s morals was to allow anyone the right to say what they want to, without getting lashed upon by other members. BUT, this principle turned on it’s head – as the supposedly liberal forum turned into an MB of arguments, as everyone had disagreeing thoughts with one another, and strong feelings that collided with each other’s own opinions.
Now, being only sliiiiightly involved (in backing a friend up), I come to check up on this place, and I see topics that are a bit…. well, ‘fanboy’-ee.
Right, call this an apology to VCP if you will (not to the SHQ Invaders, since they happen to be…. ‘just visiting’).
VCP, I shouldn’t have snapped at you like that. Your way of describing Sonic’s world is new to me, so I cannot say for sure whether you were right and I was wrong etc, but because of my outburst, I was wrong. I had no right to snap at you like that, and if it’s OK with you, I’d like to delete the topic (if I just do it anyway, the SHQ fanboys’ll have something _more_ to dig at me about, that I’m trying to cover up what I started -_-).
Eastwood was right – look man, I didn’t mean to get off on a bad start at the MoFo, OK? I should have just left it and thought about it, but what can I say? I have a flaw – I act on impulse, doesn’t most people do that? Still, I’m sorry anyways… but come on – there was no port of call to just spam like that (so I’ve heard from another topic, I only just got on and have no real time to chat…). Also, if VCP never wanted a fight in the first place, how come about 5-10 Sonic HQ fans have suddenly appeared on my Message Board? A certain ironic possibility arises there…
In either case, bringing more people to back VCP up was just plain stupid. Like Joshu said, this only made the problem worse – all I want is a nice little community in which we can have a laugh and talk about Sonic in – or is that idea copyrighted by Sonic HQ too? o.O
Yes, as you may have noticed, I’m executing (God, I sound like Windows) to totally redesign this place. It’ll kick ass when I’m finally finished.. And, I already have one forum finished (it’ll look the same in places because of that sodding bug…) – it’s called The Sky Sanctuary Reception Desk. You can find it at the bottom of the forum listing.
The SSRD is replacing the Requests and Q&A Forum, putting the two into one. Also, future announcements will be made there regarding this MB, or SSNG itself (SSNG is due to hit your screens THIS SUNDAY!)
Because of the SSNG phenomena, this MB is being renamed too. No longer will it be called the SSMB (but you can still name it that if you really want).
When the whole board is complete, it’ll be known as The South Island Forum – or the SI Forum if you want.
to give it a more Sonic-y feel to it all. Andrew is helping me with the redesign, and the SSRD is the first look at things to come. (Click on NEW TOPIC to see the background in co-ordination with the colours…)
Things look boring at the moment, but soon Ezboard’ll get this thing sorted, and then we’ll see a brighter future, I promise.
You’ll notice that I changed the order of the forums a bit. Why has the SBS got a section to its own? You’ll find out soon enough. Also, go to the SBS now – post your stats to the run up to the final battle – read the new stat rules first for that match though!
Right, I said I was going to do this often, and now I am. To give people a fair chance, I am getting rid of the current mods and admins and re-instating new ones. The reason for this is not because the current ones are bad in any way – you were excellent. But I want this place to be of equal to all, and this is why I am doing it, so don’t whinge, OK? Continue reading SSMB UPDATE: Mods and Admins Re-Instated
It certainly looks more ‘clean’ than before, when it looked all over the place. ^_^ As you can see, I’ve shrunk the forum pictures, with an intro to the side (looks better that way), and kept the new SSMB title logo (I was going to use that specifically for the new MB, but now I thought it’d look cool at where it most deserves to be – the REAL SSMB). Continue reading SSMB Update: SSMB’s New Look Complete. You like it?
Right, I want everyone in the entire Message Board to read this message, so if you know anyone who has not read this topic yet, then direct them right here. Also, keep this topic bumped for as long as possible please, because as Head of the SSMB, this message to all of you is important to everyone, newbies and oldies. Continue reading SSMB Update: Please Guys, Just… Trust Me
Let’s face it, Ezboard has been fun hasn’t it? We’ve had some quality chatting, some excellent battling and even some hilarious fluffing. But times change. People change… *SLAP* Ow. Ezboard is getting slower and slower by the minute (and I don’t think it’s by accident – stupid assholes want our money so bad…). I know because it even bogs down on my connection… and I have BROADBAND >_< Continue reading SSMB Update: We’re All Moving Boards Soon…
It’s time to interview some of our own talented community members! Sonic Neo is well known at the Sonic Stadium Message Board, and usually helps out with people’s problems with Fan Games and the like. We have a chat about his activity on the forum, as well as his latest projects. Continue reading Community Interview: Fan Hoaxer Sonic Neo
