Build-a-bear, the online and brick-and-mortar store dedicated to stuffing and dressing quality plush toys has just released its new Sonic the Hedgehog Movie plush line, and… it looks familiar.
While Paramount might have shifted gears just a few months prior to releasing the movie, that’s much harder to do when you’re a licensee making physical products intended to stare into children’s souls from deep within the uncanny valley.
Unsurprisingly, Build-a-Bear’s design seems to be on Sonic’s original movie look, from his non-gloves, to his laced shoes, to his eyes that are just that right combination of dialated and too far apart.
However, if you still have a place in your heart for the little hedgehog that couldn’t, the plush is available online now and in U.S. stores tomorrow. Online bundle options include:
Sonic without shoes for $29.99/£21.50
Sonic with ring and shoes for $46.00/£33.00
Sonic with soundbox and shoes for $45.50/£33.00
Sonic with soundbox, ring, and shoes for $53.00/£38.50
Sonic-print pajamas for animals that don’t have giant back-spikes for $13.00/£10.00
And a Sonic movie logo shirt, also not for bespiked toyfriends for $8.00/£5.50

Paramount has released the official music video for “Speed Me Up,” the theme for the upcoming Sonic movie which was leaked yesterday.
The music video features Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Yachty, and Sueco the Child playing SEGA Genesis and running through 16-bit Sonic themed environments, complete with 16-bit versions of certain in-movie locations, Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik, and loads of visual references taken from across Sonic’s classic games.
Check out in the embedded video below!
The Sonic movie could be on track to make at least a modest profit, if this latest box office opening forecast is accurate.
SEGA’s Japanese Twitter account has revealed the names of for voice actors for the upcoming Japanese dub of Paramount’s Sonic movie.
All of these actors are pretty prolific, with long resumes, although none of them have done voice work in previous Sonic products.
Taishi Nakagawa will voice Sonic, Kōichi Yamadera will voice Dr.Robotnik/Eggman, Yuichi Nakamura will voice Sonic’s cop buddy Tom, and Marina Inoue will voice Maddie. While none of them have ever been featured in a Sonic project before, Yamadera did apparently narrate a Sonic Adventure commercial in the nineties!
Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog will be released in the Americas and Europe on February 14, with the Japanese releasing following over a month later on March 27.

It looks like we have a new morsel of information regarding an as-yet unrevealed character in the Sonic movie. There has been talk of an owl character making an appearance in the live-action flick, and a new tweet from Paramount’s Spain division seems to have given us a confirmation of this character plus a name!

Early last year, the world saw the first trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie and we got our first look at what the blue blur would finally look like on the silver screen. To say that fans, non-fans, and society in general had a very negative reaction to what was shown onscreen would be a gross understatement. From his small eyes, his wide head, pasty-white hands with clawed fingers and human-like proportions, Sonic looked hideous. Practically a monster. Step aside, Baby Yoda, because there’s a new cuteness in town! The latest teaser from the Sonic movie’s Japanese twitter account has given us our first glimpse at the long-rumored “baby Sonic.” The teaser features the little blue tike blasting through Green Hill as Sonic Mania’s opening theme, Hyper Potion’s Friends, plays in the background.

Now that we know that baby Sonic is weird, one has to wonder what the character looked like before the redesign.
The Sonic the Hedgehog movie will hit U.S. theaters on February 13, 2020.

We didn’t want to wait until the end of the month to talk about this one. Recorded the day after the trailer’s release, Jason, Alex and Chris discuss their opinions on the Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer. We may have seen leaked images early, but we weren’t going to pass judgement until we saw the hedgehog in motion. Well we did and…..it’s even worse than we thought. Join us and listen to what we thought of Sonic, James Marsden, Jim Carrey and more.

It’s only been a day since the highly-anticipated Sonic movie trailer dropped, and already fans (including us!) have been scrambling to uncover any Easter Eggs they can find. But a keen-eyed reader seems to have found a pretty good one that throws back to not one, but TWO 1990s Sonic cartoons. In news that seems VERY conveniently-timed to keep everyone talking about the upcoming Sonic movie’s design, it appears that someone connected to the studio’s PR department has woken up and is assuring that what we’ve seen this week – both in internal presentations and network promotional material – is not the final look of the cinematic-universe blue blur.
