Sonic Team has revealed that is is working on a sequel to the classic Master System and Game Gear RPG, Dragon Crystal. The catch? It will be released in Japan, for mobile phones, on the DoCoMo i-mode 'Sonic Cafe' application service.
Dragon Crystal II offers a "full-fledged RPG" in the palm of your hand, with players exploring a number of labyrinths and fighting monsters to uncover the secret behind one of the mysterious 'Holy Grails' that is hidden throughout the land.
The gameplay looks similar to that of the 8-bit original, which released in Japan in 1990 and in the West in 1991. Alongside a single-player mode, Sonic Team is including a multiplayer co-op adventure function as well as a competitive battle mode.
Dragon Crystal II is being developed for i-mode 505 and 504 series cellphones, while the original Dragon Crystal is already available on the Sonic Cafe service for 504 and 503 users. No word on the release date for Dragon Crystal II, but you can access the webpage for it here.
