We have fond memories of hitting the nearby McDonald's and ordering a Happy Meal to grab a Sonic toy in the 1990s. Those days are coming back, with SEGA announcing a new deal with the fast food chain that will see Sonic return to kids' dinner boxes.
Sonic the Hedgehog and another SEGA series, Super Monkey Ball, will be getting special Happy Meal toys made. They'll be available in the Summer, although no specific date was mentioned. Both SEGA and McDonald's seem really happy about the news though.
In a report on IGN, SEGA America's Mike Fischer said that "Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Monkey Ball are two of SEGA's most popular video game franchises,. SEGA's affiliation with McDonald's affords us the opportunity to generate increased exposure for these properties among a growing universe of gamers."
McDonald's Karlin Linhardt said, "We believe consumers will have a great reaction to the innovative Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Monkey Ball premiums found only in McDonald's Happy Meals this summer. SEGA's properties are extremely popular and we look forward to bringing them to McDonald's consumers through this unique happy meal offering."
We'll bring you more on this as and when they become available. Here's hoping they make it to the UK too!
