Naoto Ohshima Tweets Never-Before-Seen Sonic CD Opening Storyboards

Naoto Ohshima has tweeted never-before-seen storyboards for Sonic CD’s opening animation, while also confirming that he was the one who drew them for Toei. Toei itself then sent them off to Studio Junio to animate the sequence.

Unfortunately, Ohshima didn’t post individual scans of the storyboards, but we can make out plenty from the picture he posted of the entire set. You can check them out below:

The opening cutscene is like the best part of the entire game and I always love to see more of it. That old Sonic Team logo in the corner of each page is interesting as well.

  The Superstars short is great, but it feels weird because the characters don't talk. Especially Eggman, it feels like he should talk but they muted him for some reason. The story is more complex than the old mania adventure and origins animations, there's more stuff going, flashbacks, technological gimmicks, lore, etc... I think that a couple of little voice lines would have improved the short a lot.
  regardless, I would gladly watch a 30 min 50 ep series of this stuff.
