The cityscape looks really great and in perspective, did you draw that freehand or with reference?  Doesn't matter either way, it's great.

 

Ash and Serena look really great too, Ash in particular has an awesomely structured pose, there's a great flow to it.

 

Also adore the ginger haired character design.  Putting them side by side really shows how much you've improved while still keeping your style for your original character, that's really really cool.  Btw no promises but can I draw her if the mood takes me.

I drew it freehand, though even though I had no ruler, I did use stuff like vanishing points to keep things looking as ok as I could get them.

 

Thanks, alot of times I like to try drawing characters in exciting poses, and alot of the time, even if they're standing still, I still want some kind of "motion" otherwise I tend to get bored and take forever to finish. =p

 

Also yeah, I like her too. =p Blenda is currently one of my favorite characters to draw and her design is the closest to being "final." She's the wildcard of the group, the sorta crazy one, (which is why her pupils are always so much smaller compared to the other characters around her, makes her appear to be always on edge, always on the brink of doing something,) though I wanted to draw her with more of a down-to-earth expression in that recent drawing. And yes you have my permission =p.

It's funny because there's quite a few on here who I consider friendly rivals in a sense. =p I respect them alot and they give me the motivation to move forward. Nothing wrong with that though, as it's just added determination as we all grow and get better together.

And yeah, at first I wasn't gonna attempt her hands as I've never drawn hands running through hair like that before, but with all that hair I was like "she's just gotta be running her fingers through that hair, it's too glorious." =p The other hand was sort of a "well I already did one, might as well do both" sorta thing, and I was able to add a Pokeball as well.

Was actually gonna color this but went for this inked look instead. I toned down the line stabilizer options a bit at points and took my time just focusing on the lines themselves, using an inking style similar to what I use when inking on paper with my sharpie pens. I think it came out alright.

Not as much as last week but I did do a few more things over the past few days:

 

 

This would be another take on the design of the girl from my Multiplayer comic. Unlike the last colored version of her, her design is a little closer to the original version, though I have her a little more showy and curvy here because I felt like just making her all stylish and whatnot. Was also focused on seeing how fast I could finish this while keeping it looking decent. Had I ever gone back and redone the comic, she'd probably have the added scarf as it would've concealed her face better, which was sort of an important part of that particular comic's story. Speaking of faces, the characters would probably have faces in a hypothetical redone version too.

 

 

Recently finished this Commission pic for Vizard. He wanted an Advance 3 inspired icon based on other versions of his online persona. This was alot of fun.

 

And then there's this, which took a ton of hours:

 

Was one of those late nights where I just had to get the limbs and everything just right. Was pretty srs business stuff but I think I nailed it.

Thanks man, that means alot to me, as your stuff is really inspiring to me and has been for well, years now actually, even though it only feels like months. I remember a few years back, maybe 2011 or so, seeing your stuff for the first time among other's stuff here and elsewhere since then, and it all really pushed me to wanna do better than what I was doing at the time, and still does.

Another small update, though I'm trying to get into the habit of updating more.
 

I still have no real plans for this character, but she's always pretty fun for me to draw, and one of my favorite original characters, or atleast, of the one's I've shown so far anyway. As she's sort of my go-to character for testing out new techniques and brushing up on old ones, I felt like dusting her off and giving her an upgrade applying several techniques I've taught myself or picked up over the months:
 

 
I really wanted to focus on making this a high-quality pic, or atleast to the best of my current ability, by applying several techniques I've picked up but often skip or use sparingly due to time/ attention-span restraints. Wanted her to look energetic, and I notice that I don't draw toothy smiles much these days so I added that too, as well as more detail to her face. Pretty satisfied with how it came out. (so satisfied that I made it an avatar but yeah)

Thanks bro. There are times when I tend to exaggerate things for the sake of it, often to suggest motion even if a character is standing still, or other things, but I still wanna get better at drawing things more realistically if I wanted too. Alot of times after I'm done with a pic I start noticing anatomy issues here and there that weren't intended, and I'm like "eh, I'll get it right next time." Alot of what I've learned on that front so far was literally just from observation, teaching myself and tons of trial and error so far, and my stuff now compared to years ago is alot better, though I do plan on getting more into tutorials and books and stuff on that subject pretty soon.

As for the colors, thanks again. Alot of the time when coloring, especially characters, be it my own or others, and when I wanna be detailed, I have the mindset that I want them to look as if they were in an animated movie, or on a promotional poster or something, with all the bells and whistles shading wise. Other times I use flatter colors and less detail as if the character was on a regular animated TV show, and most times it's something in between depending on my mood and energy level that particular day.

I quietly started developing this from back in June and it's still ongoing, but unlike Frieda, I'm only making a very basic plot outline, making most of this one up as I go, as my goal for this project is to simply Make a comic. More on this in the coming weeks/months.

Big info dump.

 

So yeah, as I said before, development on my "Frieda" project has been put on hold until a later time. The reason being because the developing story over the past year has gotten way too large and ambitious for a beginner practice project and my current skill level. There's actually a whole other part of that story that I still haven't talked about that I'm ironing out; not all of it takes place inside the restaurant, and it's those parts that I didn't wanna cut out as I feel they add to the story. Either I would've had to cut alot of what I had planned to make it smaller, or push it back in my pipeline of planned projects. I've decided to do the latter. It really excites me to one day return to that story, guns blazing with better art and planning skills and finally start it, but for now, I'm pushing it further down in my pipeline to allow myself to improve to the point that I can realistically tackle the story and give it the treatment that only my future self will be able to provide. I owe the characters that much, grew too attached to them, and the fact that that project has the largest main cast out of all my projects is another reason developing it is difficult atm, I want them all to have decent screen time and development if possible. 

 

So, Project Blend is the back up plan. I've had quite a few smaller backup ideas I've been very quietly working on alongside the Frieda project just in case this sorta thing happened. Ideas came and went, (and I liked a few of them so much that they're also in my pipline of projects I wanna start in the future,) though out of those ideas, Blend is the one I've chosen to go with first. These were some of the very first drawings and tests of the visual concept I was working on *most of these images date back to June or so, when I was just getting a grip on the software. Also most of this is subject to change, characters may change in appearance or be removed or changed completely, ect. The stuff further down that looks better visually was drawn more recently*:

 

The characters were pretty simplified and still are pretty much. This was because at the beginning I really wanted to hit the ground running with this project immediately, and wanted the characters to be as simple as possible, including their proportions and faces, things which take cues from my art style as a kid. Eventually I did give them upgraded faces and redesigns that're still on-going. This will probably bump up the "production time" a bit, but tbh I wanted the characters to be more expressive and to stand out compared to similar styles out there, atleast a little if possible. Below is the continued evolution these characters went through and are still going through now, and some more concept stuff:

 

 

 

 

In the story, a kid who draws stuff as a hobby comes across a strange sketchbook that was left behind by a weird girl he came across. Inside is a living drawing who can change her form depending on what what the kid draws in this strange sketchbook that she's bonded to. She wasn't the only living drawing though, as others more dangerous are also let loose and start wreaking havoc on the town the story takes place in. Now the kid has to join up with the weird girl and her drawing companion to stop her other creations from causing further damage, as he's the only one who is able to trigger the Drawing girl's ability to change form, which will help in taking down the others. The concept of a story featuring characters of differing artstyles yet interacting within the same space is something I've had on my mind for a very long time, and it's something that I'm sure people have noticed is commonly alluded to as a general theme in alot of my art, as I tend to experiment with alot of different techniques and methods at times. From the beginning I knew I'd eventually have to get into digital art (which was an unknown frontier to me at the time,) and get decent at it, but at the same time I didn't wanna turn my back on my traditional methods forever either, and I still need alot of practice with traditional styled stuff as well. So, I figured, why not keep doing and practicing both at the same time? Of the main two characters I'm focusing on, Ardie, and the other main characters, are drawn in a fully colored cel-shaded digital style, while his companion in the story, Scribelle, as well as the other living drawings, are drawn in a style resembling a hand-drawn pencil-ly style. I took this approach because the setting itself will be my standard digital fare using what I've learned so far, and it'll be fun to have Scribelle and the other drawings interact in that world as beings who strikingly stand out. Should I get better while working on this, I hope to have improved at both digital and traditional styles at the same time, as this could be seen as one huge drawing practice session. This is probably one of the more technically ambitious projects I've attempted so far (for example, for the basics of this concept to even work, I pretty much have to fully color it, as it will help Scribelle and the other drawings stand out more against their surroundings, (unlike Frieda which I still plan to have in black and white,) which is why some things are more simplified than my other stuff. The process to get the Drawing characters to look like they're apart of a scene is actually pretty tedious, more than I thought it would be, and things such as the format, (I was thinking a page a week rather than full blown chapters once I can build up a buffer of finished pages,) and the character's proportions have been simplified to compensate, compared to how I usually do my character designs these days. The character's heights are actually a step back into stuff from my earlier years style-wise before I even attempted anything close to realistic anatomy. Ardie for example may be kid-sized, but he's actually a high school guy around the age of 16-17 or so. I'm still working on the final average heights of the characters in this particular universe, and they're actually a bit taller now than they were back in june, but for now Ardie's height is pretty typical, making this a pretty cartoony world in terms of character height. The character designs have evolved a bit, and may evolve even more in the actual comic as my skills and comic-making abilities improve. 

 

I was actually about to start working on pages shortly before my laptop died about a month ago. Sadly, as my laptop is broken, I'll either have to get it repaired or wait until I have a new one to really get started. I don't know how long that'll take, as both options cost money that I don't have, but during this time I'll be further developing the story and setting and sharing new stuff as they're developed, maybe even sketching out pages on paper during this time I'm without a computer to be finished at a later time. (originally I was just gonna sketch and ink the whole thing digitally.) My main goal for this entire project is pretty simple. "Start a comic, keep at it, and eventually finish it." I'm tired of fretting over small details and fearing failure, and I just wanna hit the ground running with this if at all possible, so I'm currently brainstorming and refining constantly. The story may not be the best at the end of the day, but hopefully what I learn from this can help me make better things in the future, including Frieda, and this project should be pretty fun all by itself. Unlike Frieda I'm not making the mistake of setting a set-in-stone date for the start of this, but I'm shooting for the end of this year/ the beginning of next if possible.

See I was really looking forward to Frieda but this sounds friggin' awesome too.  The character designs are great and I adore the blend of the digital elements and the pencil-esque elements, gives a really cool and unique impression.

Was gonna do something Lost World related today but the computer I'm on just wasn't handling it due to the size. I still wanted to draw something today so I quickly thought this up instead. It was gonna be just the first panel but thought that the 3 extra ones added to the humor.

Just more quick doodles and stuff:

 

 

I just wanted to make a 3rd Wii Fit Trainer pic similar to the other two, as the other two seemed to be pretty popular on my tumblr page. I have absolutely no idea why. But yeah, being the 3rd time drawing her, I decided to make this more of a full drawing rather than a doodle, though I still finished it in under an hour, which is my personal definition of what a doodle is so it still counts as one I guess.

 

Quick sketch of the girl I drew earlier, this time with her face showing. I was gonna atleast ink it to a degree, but thought the sketch look gave it sort of a softer feel, along with sort of a rough work-in-progress look, due to some of the guidelines and stuff left in, which I usually make sure to erase but I figured I'd keep them there. 

 

I dunno man. Just wanted to doodle a Bulbasaur. One of those days where I wasn't really in the mood, but still wanted to draw something that day.

 

 

Drew this character again for practice with pencil and ink techniques, just another quick doodle. Her appearance tends to change a bit each time she's drawn because I like testing out differing looks and styles with her design.

 

I also did a commission recently for JezMM & Soniko. (Very slightly edited compared to the original that I posted on my Tumblr, though it wasn't really that bad or anything, just a just-in-case thing):

 

 

It's pretty fan-servicey as requested. =p It features Death, and Kay, Soniko and Jez's characters. They also wanted to surprise Sean by adding in one of his own characters (Yanoo,) as well with their initial details on what to add. Similar to what I've done in the past, with the character's faces and head shapes, I tried to pay tribute to each character's artstyle, then sorta moved on to doing my own thing otherwise when it came to the coloring, body shapes, and poses. I finished this during the same weekend that I finished my 24 hour comic so it was a pretty productive weekend over all. My current main project now has a working title and logo. I like to make these because in my mind, both coming up with a name and making a logo for a project makes things feel like they've really started development-wise. The name took awhile to think up believe it or not, because I went with a few different titles for awhile since June, trying to think of something cool sounding or clever before deciding on this simple and straight-forward title. Right before this I actually settled on "Half & Half" but I checked around and I think theres a comic out there with that name already, though I don't know if it's still being updated. Other than that reason, I just got attached to the "Blend" part after using it so long beforehand. So, as of now the working title for Project Blend is Half Blend.
