Hey yeah. I always thought Lupe Fiasco would be a good rapper for the Sonic games. I didn't know he was a Sonic fan himself though! Interesting. ^.^

Here's the instrumental version of Paris Tokyo, one of the songs by Lupe Fiasco. The beat is really fantastic and laid back. <3

Th....that...was just amazing ;_ ;, so amazing that I'm listening to it on my DS lite right now with these. The beats are so fluent, I can easily see this being an adventure field music.

Here's another playthrough of Sonic Unleashed with rap music, this time in the Adabat. I think rap music works for the series, you just have to find the right kind for it. You can also use instrumentals. Anyways check this one out also.

Ehhh... Not that song for that stage.

OFF TOPIC: he is soooooo slow!!! He should not be spending 6:14mins on that stage.

Back on topic: Sooo it is decided. Rap+sonic games= Good IF IT USES THE RIGHT SONG AND/OR ARTIST!

Btw who ever that was who mention Charles Hamilton, GOOD IDEA! I'm sure he could put together a few good songs WHENEVER rap/hip hop returns to sonic.

That's what ya get when I'm playing on a 14 inch screen buddy, and it didn't take 6:14mins it was 5:33mins. I don't know how people get 4:30mins, they must really play it a lot, this game can only hold my attention for so long.

On Topic: Pfft... Charles Hamilton isn't even that good, Outside Looking is the only mixtape I like from this dude everything else sounds ok to garbage. Whoever did the rap in Sonic Adventure 2 for Knuckles stages get them, I actually liked Pumpkin Hill and Meteor Herd.

With video game music, while I feel the quality is important, I think how it fits in the game is even more important. Otherwise, it may as well not even be in a video game. Personally, I think the lyrics are what made the level so memorable. In fact, most of the time I prefer it when the levels do have lyrics. It gives the level more character and it gives a greater understanding of the playable character's intents as well. And I can't see how City Escape's lyrics "destroy Sonic's image" so much as improve it. They reinforce Sonic's idea that life's a game of luck and that you have to keep moving to play it.

Having lyrics to it makes it seem like the intro to some crappy 90's cartoon. I need to find a better quality rip of that.

"destroy Sonic's image" so much as improve it.
Not just the music (really cheesy lyrics), but also the Soap shoes. He was wearing a placed product, they made Sonic a sell out.

Rap and Sonic just don't mix. The slower, bass heavy beats it's known for are massively out of place next to something as fluid as Sonic.

Same here, the lyrics just don't give off the same impact it did for Skyscraper Scamper in Empire City.

It started out good at first, then the lyrics kinda alienated itself from the stage.

I guess hip-hop tracks only work well for city stages. Move Bitch was a perfect fit for the level.

Well that rule goes to every genre of music when you put it in a Sonic game. Even rock music would sound out of place if not put in where it belongs.

If you're in a snowy stage, the music has to give that same atmosphere for you to feel like you're in a snowy stage.

Having lyrics to it makes it seem like the intro to some crappy 90's cartoon. I need to find a better quality rip of that.

Well remember that this game did come out in the late 90's to the early 2000.

I'd argue that, because it's not a matter of being slow and heavy contrasting with something fluid than it is for matching.

The background music is to match the stage environment and give it atmosphere to convince you of it's feel. It's really nothing to do with the character being played, that's what CHARACTER Theme music is for.

Ludacris' "Move Bitch, Get out the way..." fits Skyscraper Scamper completely in for the environment, and heck even Sonic himself. Whereas "Act a fool" by the same artist doesn't fit Jungle Joyride at all, but somewhat fits the character.

It doesn't matter how slow the music goes than how much it fits. Rock in SA2 was pretty slow compared to the music in Sonic Unleashed, but they still fitted (most of) the settings they were in.

I would like the see the person for SA2 to return again since I loved most of Knuckles Songs in that game. I would also still keep an eye on Charles Hamilton, juts in case he gets more well known. And they are known to have fast beat rap songs that can fit the Sonic Feel. They could have a Rap and Pop mix or a Rap and Techno mix too.

I wasn't talking about the rap, I was talking about Escape from the City. And most of the other songs that revolve around him.

And I really don't care about the soap shoes. Every successful cultural icon is bound to sell out sooner or later. Hell, even the Chocolate Rain guy already did a Dr. Pepper commercial.

Probably should have put some more space between those topics.

(Responding to Topic title) Yes it did, in fact Sonic's rapping helps the fat producer decide that both of the kids get to be singers. Sonic's rapping skills save the day once again!

Seriously, though, I liked the jazzy-like music that the Werehog had. It's like what Knuckles had in SA1, which I think was better than just describing the level and that you are, in fact, playing as Knuckles:

"You know me the fighting freak Knuckles, and we in Pumpkin Hill, you ready?"

"This is Knuckles and I'm back! I've been away for a while, but I'm back to kick some butt in Wild Canyon!"

"This is Knuckles, and you have reached the Death Chamber! (Death Chamber, Death Chamber)"

"This is yo boy Knuckles, and we're in Aquatic Mine."

"It's your main man Knuckles, and we're in Meteor Herd. Ready to go into space? Help me get the emeralds!"

and so on.

"Yo, it's da Werehog, and we in a Jungle Joyride." - I just don't want that to be the music of Unleashed.

Yes, while I liked the beats in Knuckles' music, the lyrics had far from the same descriptive charm that the other lyrical songs in the series. They were incredibly shallow; only describing the environment and Knuckles' intent. Although to be fair, finding the Master Emerald shards was all that Knuckles' levels were about in the game with the exception of the Death Chamber.

Hmm, I suppose that track didn't fit Jungle Joyride very well I'll save it for another day.

What about Jungle Joyride with Kill Joy? I'm still slow in this one though. That one probably doesn't fit it either, I just like the song.

I thought in meteor herd, the lyrics went, "help me get the hell on"? I guess it really doesn't matter as long as the song fits and yeah... Rap music and Sonic is just funny to me.

In the Knuckles raps' defense, that's just how the songs START. The rest of the lyrics are usually a bit more vague and less grounded to the game. Though I'm not denying those opening lyrics are still cheesy as hell. In a similar way, it's forever annoyed me that one of the most badass song in the Sonic series, "This Machine", has such terrible in-context lyrics.

Actually that was a really good run through the stage. 5:08mins Is a fairly good time for a person who doesnt play that stage alot. And the song was.... well it fit alot better (my opinion) than your last one!

Sonic Adventure 2 was also slower than Unleashed.

Yes, it was. But the character could still move fast, and even then the music was not always as fast as the character even in SA2 than it was at matching the settings.

Better...but the lyrics still kinda alienate it from the level's setting. I don't know, it was pretty hard to replicate the same magic and effect "Move Bitch!" did in Skyscraper Scamper than to use hip-hop (w/ lyrics) with any other stage.

It's not impossible to mix the two together, but it's difficult in getting the atmosphere to fit with the stage when we're talking about those who haven't done a hip-hop song for a Sonic game.

I just filter out the lyrics (I hear words but they have no meaning) and just listen to the music.

Eh, screw rap. We need some country in a Sonic game. You know, one of those bar songs would suit the next Casino level Sonic Team comes out with-- *shot*

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Hill Top Zone. It had country throughout the whole stage.

That's the highest quality example I could find, I'm obviously talking about an instrumental version of this.

Remember

It's practically mariachi.

Then there's stuff like Pat Green's "Wave on Wave" that almost sounds like it could come from Phantasy Star Online.

Bro you almost got jumped by all the country HATERS. (including me) But if country works good into a certain level then I dont have a problem with it.

I LOL'd. Big time. Seeing the Chun-Nan section, however, reminded me a lot about Afro Samurai and Samurai Champloo.

I know what you mean, I was trying to find the instrumental version of it but apparently no one is good at taking samples of the song and looping them together without it sounding choppy... well I could do it but it would take a while.
