While I was snooping the Internets, I bumped into the portfolios of Matt Osness and Stephen Pearce - two graphic designers who did a considerable amount of work on the oft-neglected 2007 PlayStation Portable game Sonic Rivals 2.

Matt Osness worked on the 3D modeling and texturing on this game. Apparently he also designed Eggman Nega's Yetee series from the original Sonic Rivals, as well.

Stephen Pearce, on the other hand, provided concept artwork for all of the zones and objects featured in-game. (Warning: Scenery porn may be unsuitable for minors.)

Oh my science, it's beautiful! Be sure to check out all the other zone artwork (minus Sunset Forest, for whatever reason) on his flickr portfolio, too!

So yeah, feel free to discuss these awesome works of art! I, for one, have found myself some sexy new wallpapers.

OMG Scenery porn! I love the first one. Those renders are actually not that bad, hearing from the rumor that they were recycled from Sonic Heroes. They look more like ones you would see in Rush, but more smooth.

Hey guys, I'm on a roll here! I did some more snooping, and bumped into Barrett Meeker's portfolio as well. He did some CGI work for Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog, just like that Cemre Ozkurt guy that I posted a month or so ago.

See, I always said Rivals 2 took more of a page from the classics than any other modern game Bar Heroes.

Oh, awesome! I can finally get a good look at the Ifrit.

The Sonic Rivals concept art is pretty. Is it me or does the ghost on the haunted mansion artwork look like one of the Sandopolis ghosts? Or did the ghosts actually look like that in-game? I can't remember.

See, I always said Rivals 2 took more of a page from the classics than any other modern game Bar Heroes.

Yes, that's exactly what it is, and they are in the game. They come out when the lights are out, and generally wreck your junk til you hit a switch.

Hmm, so I guess Iizuka is the one that came up with that idea for Sonic & knuckles, since he directed the sonic rival games.

I'm back with yet more concept artwork - this time from Gurihiru Studios. Gurihiru Studios designed the NPCs featured in Sonic World Adventure (Sonic Unleashed) and Night of the Werehog.

Pretty neat, eh? I might go around looking for more Sonic the Hedgehog concept artwork now, but it's certainly getting a wee bit tiring.

Ha, love the cartooney seagulls. Look like we missed out on some additional Shamar/Empire City NPCs too. I can only at least guess that the juggling guy there was removed due to needing unique animations (like Big Def), guess that eats the development time budget a bit.

OH CTHULU THANK YOU, NITRO! Now, I present to you what may be the holy grail of my finds today - some alpha(?) footage of the original Sonic Rivals!

And for some added fun, I've found some unreleased high quality (p?)remixes of the Sonic Rivals soundtrack on the official website! I actually like the mysterious "Stage 2" (Which appears to be based on/the base for Forest Falls Act 2) theme a wee bit more than the one featured in-game, and the Sky Park and Meteor Base mixes are love.

There used to be a Sonic 06 final full body render of Dr. Eggman along with a side headshot picture on the internet. When I went back to add it to my long log of saved Robotnik pictures, it was gone. Can anyone find it again? I remember it was on a sheet, and someone was holding it. God knows I have done some long searching on that image a while back.

Actually, I am dying to know what prototype renders they had before the settled on the scientist's nipple outfit. I wonder if they have them floating around someplace?

Wait by full render of Neo Metal Sonic, do you mean like a turn around for him or just him in that pose he's in when you select final story? Truthfully I just want this render so I can finally draw/3D model him accurately!

Oh lawd. In the time since the last post, I've found more assets for Sonic Heroes, Sonic Riders, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Sonic Unleashed. For fun's sake, I'll start in reverse order!

Massive Black provided some concept artwork for Sonic World Adventure.

Positively brilliant. Beautiful - just look at those pics of Empire City and Apotos! The Chun-nan and Dark Gaia scenes are superb, as well

Aoki Studio provided the Soleannan and Bablyonian architecture featured in the CGI cutscenes of both Sonic Riders and Sonic the Hedgehog. They also modeled the opening outskirts of Metal City.

Aoki Studios also had a demo reel, which I plan on uploading to YouTube shortly. If there's a demand for it, perhaps I can bundle all of this concept artwork together up for download when I'm done!

Lol Amy was supposed to be with them at the beginning. Kind of destroys my theory that Sonic and his boy Knuckles went for a night out and Tails had to get their drunk sorry arses in the morning.

I love the drawings though. I wish they'd release them bigger. But it's quite good already. <3

Actually, the ending CGI cutscene is one of the scenes being portrayed in that concept artwork - which featured Amy riding in the hovercar with Team Sonic in-game.

Also Sonic concept art pack is up! It features all of the artwork displayed so far as well as some more content from Sonic Heroes, Sonic Rush, Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Unleashed, and so forth. I'm still searching for more stuff as I type, though!
