PS2 getting discontinued in 2010?

LOL at all the whiny PS2 haters. Hating a console because it killed another console is so immature. Plus, the PS2 and DC both have a good selection of games, so stop whining.

Anyway, it will be sad to see the PS2 go, because I've had so many memories with that console, plus it has, in my opinion, the best game ever made, Metal Gear Solid 3.

Great library of games of every genre

That's bullshit. Fucking bullshit. Name me ONE decent PS2 exclusive (NOT made by SEGA) and I'll doff my cap to you, good sir!

HFD will you please stop spouting your extreme opinions as fact, you're coming off as another butthurt sega fanboi who can't accept that the PS2 out lived your beloved "holy" Dreamcast. I don't care how you feel about system and its games if you'd just acknowledge that your opinions contradict those of most gamers.

You're insane, good sir.

But since I'm such a good sport...

Resident Evil Outbreak.

There, I named one decent PS2 exclusive. I didn't even name any really good ones.

To name a couple that some people have not yet mentioned.... and I'll even attempt to go for a variety of genres.

Singstar. (Party/social/singing!)

God of War (action/adventure/platformer)

God of War 2 (action/adventure/platformer)

Ring of Red (Stratergy/RPG/First Person shooter)

Fantavision (Puzzle)

Red Faction (although I do believe that this got a PC port later on). (First Person Shooter)

The .Hack series (Or Dot Hack, depending on how you pernounce it). (RPG)

Final Fantasy X (RPG)

Ace Combat 4, 5 and 6 (Zero if you live in the states). (air combat sim)

Several Ape Escape titles. (platformer? Don't really know, not too familiar with this one).

Castlevania: Lament of Innocence (Action/Adventure/platformer)

Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (Driving)

Gran Turismo 4 (Driving)

Tekken Tag Tournament (Beat em' up)

Tekken 5 (beat em' up)

... is there any need to go on or has the point been well and truely destroyed?

And I seem to have forgotten one, it's a little known RPG/Platform/adventure title... Anyone heard of Kingdom Hearts? Had a sequel on the PS2? No?

Nocturne being on the PS2 basically makes every other console from that gen worthless

A very underrated game that actually took Disney and FF characters and made a good game out of them. Who doesn't know about that?

I find it almost ironic that the best selling consoles for at least the last two gaming generations have both been the most underpowered out of the three.

Agreed. I hope they do a firmware upgrade or something. I can understand if they didn't want to make it backwards compatible in the first place, but completely removing the capability from subsequent PS3s was kind of a dick move. But capitalism's capitalism, whaddya gonna do?

Little explanation: The PS2 has two important chips, the Emotion Engine (EE) and the Graphics Synthesizer (GS). Consoles with the full backwards compatibility have both, the partial BC ones are missing the EE, that's handled with emulation. It's also the reason why some game's FMV's would screw up but the real time 3D would run fine. Newer consoles have neither, and only play PS1 games via emulation.

The Atari Jaguar and (arguably) the Sega Dreamcast?

The three that survived as viable gaming platforms until their successor generation arrived. The Dreamcast died before the GameCube was released.

Having lots of power does not equate to getting high sales or deserving any position in the console sales chart. It takes more to attain those; good marketing teams in high sales territories, a price point acceptable to the widest possible number of people while not making the machine financially unviable, and of course developer and publisher support which delivers games that appeal to the majority audience of whatever console you're promoting.

Nintendo got it right on all counts this time around after two successively awful generations, Sony got it right last time and the time before that. No company stays on top for too long so it'll be interesting to see who comes out on top over the course of the next two console generations.

Okay, then; I'll leave out the ones I haven't played (unless I have something to say about them) for reasons that should be obvious, and take you up on this mammoth list...

Singstar. (Party/social/singing!)

I would never lower and debase myself to play such pointless, idiotic, party-orientated tripe; listening to drunken morons singing like gibbons and then puking their booze into the nearest gutter really doesn't sound like the greatest way to celebrate, but if you like that sort of thing, I won't knock you... And I suck at singing. I mean, I really, really suck at singing.

God of War (action/adventure/platformer)

God of War 2 (action/adventure/platformer)

Monotonous enemies, boring platforming elements and an idiotically easy structure made the first game a less than enjoyable experience, but I've never played the sequel, so I can't comment.

Fantavision (Puzzle)

I don't really like this one either; pointless, boring, meaningless and downright repetitive gameplay made Fantavision (despite its decidedly cool name) a total waste of time, and the freaky cutscenes, lack of replay value and seriously annoying in-level voice clips put me off it completely.

Red Faction (although I do believe that this got a PC port later on). (First Person Shooter)

Not an exclusive, so it doesn't count (and I've never played it). I thought the latest addition to the series (Red Faction: Guerilla) sucked, but I don't know if it bore anything in common with the first game, so I can't comment.

Final Fantasy X (RPG)

This is more of a general statement on all Final Fantasy games than a specialised opinion on the 10th: I don't find aimless wandering, turn-based boredom and hours of being left in total limbo to be any fun at all - if you want a good RPG, play Phantasy Star, and don't waste your time on Square's tedious trash.

Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (Driving)

Gran Turismo 4 (Driving)

These two all right I suppose, but they're a far cry from the likes of MSR, SEGA GT or their predecessors...

Tekken Tag Tournament (Beat em' up)

Tekken 5 (beat em' up)

Again, their alternatives (Soul Calibur and Virtua Fighter 3) were both FAR superior games.

... is there any need to go on or have these points been well and truly destroyed?

Holy shit, I think I just realised that you like Phantasy Star because it's SEGA and for no other reason and you're absolutely no way ever willing to give the FF series a chance. Man I should be a detective.

Also, what was the point in that post?

All you did was say why DC was better in your opinion. In your original post you asked us to present you with one decent PS2 exclusive, and we gave you shitloads of good-great ones. Have you managed to prove in any way shape or form that those games are NOT decent?

Name me ONE decent PS2 exclusive (NOT made by SEGA) and I'll doff my cap to you, good sir!

Did you disprove their quality?

No, your original point has still been utterly destroyed, a post remarking about the fact you prefer games on your favourite console to their "PS2 counterparts" does not in any way make the PS2 a horrible console, it just makes you a close minded person.

You're the closed-minded one; you think that just because you like a certain game, others should like it too. It's my opinion; I don't think that those games are much cop, that's all.

I mean, I have nothing against Sony - I quite liked the PS3 & PSP, and will always have a soft spot for the PSOne - it's just a simple case of hardware and software preferences. If you think that I'm being biased towards SEGA and the Dreamcast, then you're not only paranoid, but also stupid; I saw the PS2 in a slightly different light to you guys, and if you don't like the way I talk about the console, then it's your problem, not mine.

And with that, I bid thee farewell, good sir!

Seems like you haven't even been reading my posts properly anyway.

You said "bullshit, name one decent PS2 exclusive"

We delivered.

It's just opinion, which is why your original post was so ridiculous in the first place. You actually posted with the full intent that you would never concede to liking a PS2 game even if you were proven "wrong" for there being actual good games on the system.

Even if you don't think the games are "much cop", does that mean they're not decent, heck, even great games? There is such a thing as a minority opinion, and you're sitting there right now. When it comes to trying to prove the PS2 has no good exclusives, that is an impossible task.

In keeping with the funny, I'll only reply to the funnier bits:

Not an exclusive, so it doesn't count (and I've never played it). I thought the latest addition to the series (Red Faction: Guerilla) sucked, but I don't know if it bore anything in common with the first game, so I can't comment.

Halo 1 and 2: Not an XBox exclusive. Metal Gear Solid: Not a PSX exclusive. I could go on, but your pedantic reasoning is rather laughable.

These two all right I suppose, but they're a far cry from the likes of MSR, SEGA GT or their predecessors...

Sega GT was a mediocre copycat at best. And MSR wasn't a sim, but I can counter that anyways: Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2.

Again, their alternatives (Soul Calibur and Virtua Fighter 3) were both FAR superior games.

Virtua Fighter 4 was on the PS2. Oh no!

Because SEGA are the only developer who can make good games.

Hey Luxor, why don't you join IGN so you can review games? I'd love to see what kind of score you'd give a Sony game when you're forced to review it. I'd also love to see people's reactions once you give God of War III a 3.0 or lower.

Give me their contact details and I'll apply for a job with pleasure!

I'd love to see what kind of score you'd give a Sony game when you're forced to review it.

I would, too; a company with that much money should (theoretically, at least) produce a myriad of brilliant games.

I'd also love to see people's reactions once you give God of War III a 3.0 or lower.

That'd be quite fun, actually; although deliberate attention-seeking isn't usually my forte, there's no denying that it'd be very entertaining to read all of the death-threats that disgusted Sony fanboys will fill my mailbox with.

Do you really need to come into every single fucking Sony-related topic and ruin it by turning it into a pathetic Sega vs. Sony discussion with flawed logic and just general arrogance?

I'm honestly sick of it, Luxor. I really am.

you would never lower yourself to even play it?

This is becoming rather dull isn't it? You've done this in two different topics now... slagged off games that you so blatently don't own or play.

It does raise the question as to why you're even posting in these topics when you're constantly bashing games that you haven't even touched. Better yet, it makes your entire arguments against the other games you've played totally pointless as it brings into question if you've ever played them.

... is there any need to go on or have these points been well and truly destroyed?

I think the clear point here is that your an anti-sony fanboy bashing troll. But please do go on it's highly amusing to watch.
