RUMOR: Could Paramount Be Looking Into a Shadow Spin-Off?

Shadow is undeniably popular among both casual and serious Sonic fans, so it's no wonder why he'll be making his full theatrical debut in Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog 3. However, Paramount miiiiiiiiight be looking to giving the antihero a starring role in a future project.

According to film insider DanielRPK (by way of Sonic Paradise and ComingSoon.net), Paramount is possibly looking into some form of Shadow spin-off project, though without any specification if it will be a full movie or an episodic series (like the upcoming Paramount+ Knuckles show).

As with all rumors, be wary of taking it too seriously until we have real confirmation. Nothing official has been announced, and with both Knuckles and Sonic 3 still on the horizon, Paramount still has plenty of time to shift plans based on how these upcoming projects do.

Surprisingly, we still know little to nothing about how Shadow will be presented in Paramount's Sonic universe. Despite Sonic 3 hitting this December, we've got no trailers or casting, and only some obvious hints at what games it will draw inspiration from. If other more spoilery rumors are to be believed, Shadow could have his hands full beyond the previously established factions of Sonic, Robotnik, and GUN.

And, of course, I know we're all hoping this will take us into a Zeti-filled fourth movie with yet further spin-offs telling the harrowing backstory of Zavok and Zazz.

So, this is interesting. I say that if we don't see Maria get shot in the third Sonic movie, we will see her get shot in this potential kind of movie or TV show. What do you all think of this, by the way? I wonder if we'll also get another spinoff after the third Sonic movie featuring another Sonic character?

Even though this is a rumor, it is a bit surprising that they would announce a Shadow series, even though the third movie hasn't come out yet.  But then again, they did the exact same thing when they quickly announced a Knuckles series and a third movie while the second movie was still playing in theaters.

I wonder what is next for Sonic movie spinoffs? Amy Rose, maybe? I wouldn't be surprised, but yeah, I am kinda kidding around.

A bit early, but not too surprising. Let's just hope Sonic 3 & Knuckles perform well enough for this to come to fruition.

Can I just explain how these "Rumours" start?

A bunch of execs, and maybe a few other low level people, go into these meetings, they sit around a table and pen ideas. Someone stands up and says,

"OKAY WHATS DOING WELL!?"

Another will say, "Well that Sonic Movie series is doing better than predicted! Look at the license sales alone!"

The first guy then says.

"Hey that's great! What can we do about that!?"

Another guy says....

"Well, we got another movie on the way! And a TV Show!"

First guy says...

"GREAT! But what else ya got!?"

At this point, a huge number of people start throwing ideas around the table... Typically, depending on the franchise, it's either a sequel, a spinoff, or some kind of something to garner interest from the media.

Examples of what's happened in the past "HEY! How about a Female James Bond!" <--- This particular one comes out EVERY time a new 007 movie is released.

Now during this meeting, nothing is set in stone, nothing is commissioned, maybe, this list of ideas gets 'pushed' to speculative writers to have a crack at. But nothing is confirmed, and nothing is set in stone. This meeting that always happens is often mocked on Red Letter Media when they go off on their tangents when talking about upcoming movies and rumours. Quite often Rich Evans puts on his "Hollywood director" voice and does the, "HEY HOW ABOUT A MOVIE WITH...!"

Now with regards to the Sonic movies... this isn't even the second time this has happened. There's been at least 2 other rumours of a spinoff like this. Some of you might remember there was apparently talks about a Dr Robotnik Movie shortly after the 1st movie dropped.

This is the same situation, it's a bunch of people in a meeting throwing around ideas with nothing set in stone. These then either get leaked intentionally, or just leaked because they end up as open pitches which typically end up going nowhere.

Either way, this isn't even up their with what I'd call a rumour. It would be like if Sonic Team had a development contest and the stipulation was 'it has to feature Knuckles as the playable character' "MY GOD THEY'RE MAKING A KNUCKLES GAME!?" n... no... They're most likely just pitching ideas for future development for a bigger project... Or it might not go anywhere at all...

That's the kind of level this 'rumour' is at. If indeed it isn't a complete load of clickbait crap.

  • The title was changed to [RUMOR] Paramount Project Shadow spinoff movie or TV show is said to be in the works

I like the idea of this rumour. It would kind of make sense if they can flesh out Gerald and Shadow's backstory a bit more than the games did.

Whilw a rumour, and yes, it could just be BS or an attempt to create fan hype so Paramount puts one in to pre-production (See fans and ST: Stange New Worlds for success....Legacy, as yet, Not!) yeh, I could see it happening.

More importantly, I think any future shows / films depend on what happens with Paramount and the whole HBO sale

An entire movie and series, a sub-franchise if you will, about Maria getting shot.

Sonic is so fucking back.

Hopefully this is true because it's the form I thought the movie series should take.

Tails also should get some kind of limited series because movie 2 did not give him enough character.

Can’t wait for the TV-MA rated Shadow series where Black Doom shows up and gives Shadow a gun (Joking, obviously).
I am looking forward to seeing how Paramount presents Shadow in the third movie, given how well they did with Tails and Knuckles.

I would also like them to give more importance to other characters like Tails, Amy, and expand the world of the Sonic movies more.

I agree. They NEED to expand on Tails' backstory from Sonic 2. Imagine the storytelling possibilities of him visiting other worlds in search of Sonic.

What will those worlds be like? What friends (and foes) will he encounter on his journey? How will Tails develop as a character along the way? Will he gain in confidence the closer he gets to his destination?

I know I've kinda gone off topic here. I just really want it to happen. Please make it happen Paramount!!

It would also be nice if they made animated series like Sonic SATAM, going a bit off the topic of Paramount, SEGA could make 2D animation series, it is an opportunity that can be used a lot :)
