DuckTales Remastered - XBLA/PSN/WiiU/PC, Developed by WayForward

Young sounds like he's a bit under the weather considering his age, but if nothing else I'm impressed he can still pull off the role and make Scrooge seem as charming as ever. In fact, while I know that most people prefer Bark's more dickish version of Scrooge, I always had a soft spot for the kindly, if somewhat selfish, adventurer grandpa rendition that DuckTales provided us, all primarily due to Alan Young's performance. Glad to know he's still got it.

This is really nice indeed. We also have a really old(and healthy!) VA here, he's 93 and is still working. He is Scooby-Doo one and only VA since the very first episode, more than 35 years voicing the Great Dane. He also voiced Grim(Billy & Mandy), Mr. Herriman(Foster's Home), Hong Kong Phooey, Popeye and so many others, all brilliantly.

Um, I never really paid attention to DuckTales but, why in that video Huey, Dewey and Louie have a completely different voice? They are suppose to sound more like Donald.

Because they were different in the original DuckTales show. (They also retained those different voices for the Mickey's Once and Twice Upon a Christmas movies.)

Finally hearing all of the cast again melts my little heart, and I haven't really gone back to DuckTales in God knows how long (now I need to). This game is now a snatch-up for just the lengths they're going to channel the original show alone.

Um...he didn't actually voice any of those characters, but he's still an excellent VA none-the-less! :P

Just looked at the footage of the game. The voices sound just like they used to. Scrooge sounds slightly different, but still really good.

I had forgotten about the 'Junior Woodchuck Guide Book' which is the scouts organisation that Huey, Dewey and Louie belong to. It has 59 likes on facebook, lol.

I took a little gander at the footage, how different is this going to be from the original?  Coz I hammered in "Ducktales First Level" on youtube for reference since I never played the original, and was presented with some kind of foresty stage I'm sure, and Scrooge McDuck choosing it from a world map.  Or is this a later stage they used for the demo?

This is a different stage used for the demo. They probably didn't have most of the levels finished.

The levels that were shown were the Tutorial level exclusive to the remake, and Transylvania, the level with the final boss, and probably the most memorable after The Moon. The forest level is likely The Amazon.

The game had you navigating between levels constantly to access different areas as you picked up items, similar to Wario Land 3, so a world map is essential.

I wonder if Sega is gonna put that much effort into the MD/Genesis Mickey game that was recently trademarked.

This is making me very tempted to pick up volume 3 of DuckTales on Amazon sometime, even though I'm still bitter at Disney for never releasing the entire series.

Actualy, I think they are releasing some of it and other series on dvd, I saw it, Darkwing Duck, Chip and Dale, and Tailspin at Costco the other day

As far as I'm aware Disney never bothered to release the entirety of any of their Toon Disney/Afternoon shows like DuckTales or Darkwing Duck. DuckTales volume 3 came out in 2007.

Bunch of assholes.

From an interview with Capcom producer Rey Jimenez about the difficulty, Wii U support, the final part of the game and the plot of the Moon level:

On Extreme mode being more difficult than the original...

On Extreme though, that's actually harder than the original. You'll have less hearts than the NES game and there's some challenging reworks.

On adding context to levels and bosses...

"Yeah actually that was one of the designers favorite parts of the new game, figuring out context. For instance, in the Himalayas level, Webby is a stowaway on Launchpad's plane, and stuff like that. The moon level was really interesting. You know how the boss was just that giant rat? Well WayForward came up with this whole backstory, like how the aliens abduct and test different animals, and how sometimes they get away. That giant rat is actually an escaped mutated experiment."

On revamping the final part of the game...

"Just know that the very last part of the NES game, where you're climbing up that rope; we made it a lot more fun and interactive. You'll see!"

On supporting Wii U and the Wii U GamePad features...

"Well, whatever is best for the game. In this particular case, given the history of the series with Nintendo, we felt it was right. The Wii U GamePad in Ducktales Remastered will be used to view the map, and will have full remote play features."

I've never watched the original show, let alone played the original game, but I'm rather surprised at the lengths WayForward has taken to make this game as faithful as it can be to both forms of media. They weren't kidding when they said they are pouring their hearts out into this game. ohmy.png

The book is not the association, it's a little guide book they had that had the answers to everything. As the years advanced and more Disney comics were made, it continued having the answers to everything, to the point it's also a running joke.

I remember them learning to speak "bear" from it, chrissakes tongue.png

I never played the original NES version. But I will definitely buy the XBLA release. As for the voices, I only noticed Scrooge to be a bit off but still accurate, and everyone else sounds the same.

I'm so impressed by the amount of love that's going into this remastering. The voice work from the original cast is superb, the graphics are really really nice (and the Paper Mario effect works perfectly for a cartoon-style game), and the expansions they seem to be making to the original are all going to benefit the experience, I'm sure. It's never been a better time to be a DuckTales fan.

Summer can't come soon enough!

Late to the party on this bit of news, but that's awesome that they've got the original VAs to do work on this game :D

Ever wondered why you were fighting a rat on the moon? Or why Scrooge McDuck's nephews got kidnapped in the first place?

Well, all those questions and more, will be answered in the upcoming remake of DuckTales. (So relax for now, I could tell they've been weighing heavily on you.)

Capcom producer Rey Jimenez spoke about some of these additions in an interview with Siliconera. "In the original NES version, you go in the UFO to find the remote control to open the area to get to the boss," said Jimenez. "You don’t really know why. The game doesn’t explain it well."

So they've attempted to fill in some of the gaps. "In our version, before you even get to the UFO you see Fenton who is Gizmoduck and he gets kidnapped by the UFO," reveals Jimenez. "You’re going into the UFO to save him and find all of the parts in Gizmoduck’s suit. Once you get that all together and Fenton turns into Gizmoduck he’s going to escort you back to the area where the door was and he will blast everything out of your way and then blast the door out.

"In the NES version, you fight a big rat and it didn’t explain why you’re fighting a rat on the moon. That’s explained in here because there are rats they’re experimenting on and you let them loose and that becomes the rat down there. Also, how does Scrooge McDuck breathes on the moon? We explain that as well."

It's amazing how thorough WayForward is being in creating this remake. I'm all for context.

Just watching that gameplay video is proof that WayForward has put a lot of love and care into this remake. It's looking better and better the more I see it and I'm very happy to hear all the original voice actors are back, especially Scrooge. I've always loved Young's voice. Incredible he's doing this at the age of 93.

Why did it take me until now to post on here?

Wayforward has really grown to be one of my favorite developers out there, and the fact they are working on this clinched my purchase months ago after I've heard about it a week's past. But now actually seeing a good length of it in action... I must have this game.

I mean, the effort is amazing from all I seen in so far. Being completely remastered, original voice cast from the show, filling up what few holes the first game had and being handled by a developer that knows 2D gaming like the back of their hands... What could possibly go wrong? (Don't you dare answer that! >:U)

I've already have the theme song mentally etched in my brain, I really want to search for the episodes on Youtube now and of course, I can't wait to see the remastered Moon Level and to hear it's theme.

Definitely getting this on the Wii U.

  • 2 weeks later...

Considering the 2D objects I can't help but think they should have used an orthographic view point for this game.  I dunno, maybe it looks busted.
