Saw a picture of a particular eye style and decided to apply it to Cassidy. I think it fits her pretty well, and it’s more distinct from Jessica’s.

Oh yeah, and this is the first time I've done Cassidy in colour. Was debating on whether or not to go with my original idea of a blonde, or to make her a redhead.

I'm liking the look of this design, especially with the red/purple colour scheme to contrast Jessica's green/blue colours.

The only thing I would say is that it feels like she should have an extra detail or two on her arms or legs (mostly legs) to make them look a little bit less plain. Aside from that, it's awesome.

That colour parallel wasn't intentional, but I'm glad you pointed it out! Also, though it is hard to see since her arms are folded, she does have a metal arm band on her left upper arm, so there's that detail. You can more clearly see it here. Not sure what to put on her legs though - maybe a gun holster, but it'd make more sense to put that on the belt...

Double update!

I tried out some lighting/shading effects to create a nighttime effect, as well as objects that are made entirely of light. Not sure how successful I was, but if anyone else knows how best to make neon 3D objects, please tell me.

Also, that sticker in the window isn’t a sign that there’s 80′s nostalgia inside - it’s far too early for that.

 

So this came about from a bit of an in-joke between me and @Galabance. I found it funny and decided to make this picture of our OCs to reflect it.

Maybe the joke’s not funny to anyone else, but eh :U

So I tried out some brush settings on SAI, as well as inking without using a Lineart Layer… yeah, I think I’m gonna keep the regular default pencil for lineart. It’s not so bad as a sketch, but when coloured it doesn’t look so good. Or maybe selecting the inside of the lineart and using the bucket tool isn’t a good way of colouring shit in :U

So I did this picture as an April Fools joke, depicting some TSOTS characters as if it were inspired by a 90's Rob Liefeldian comic book. Hence Jessica's hourglass boobs'n'butt pose (for that matter, boobs at all). Here's the original description spoilered below:

Folks, I’ve been thinking. My characters looked OK before, but I’ve never liked the manga-esque approach they had. Too clean. Too bubbly. No grit or dirt to be had anywhere. So as of now, everyone’s getting a complete revamp. You can see Jessica, Shade the Darkbrooder, Charn and LM-NA will be from this point onwards.

I can tell this bold new artstyle, derived from the majesty of American comics in the mid-nineties, will be far superior and more popular. Look forward to seeing more character redesigns soon!

Someone’s disturbed a sleepy Elemental, and she’s not happy about that.

I tried out some gradients/blending and environmental shading, which honestly I think turned out better than my last attempt.

So after seeing Litten (and because I felt her design was kinda bland already), I redesigned Amber slightly to be more detailed.

So these last few days have been pretty hellish as Groudon seemingly decided to spend his holidays here. Made this as a way of venting, and it’s the first time I’ve done a comic in a long time. I admit I kinda half-assed the backgrounds and sun here to get this out while it’d still be relevant/to just get it done.

Dug up a sketchbook and did some things over the last few days (also holy FUCK Tumblr has made uploading these in a convenient way nigh-on impossible; I had to change my Tumblr's theme entirely thanks to their A++ web designers):

Though given her size it’d probably about the size of a large cupcake. Oh well, she tried :U

Time for another art dump, most of which are sketches and doodles:

I felt like sketching Shade’s alternate form again. I was inspired by the R/B/Y sprites of Haunter and Gengar and how they seemed like pitch blackness in a person-shaped frame of light, so I tried to see how that would look here.

I wondered if Voidica should have sunken eyes as a means of giving her a more distinct eye design and also making her more alien/“freakish”, so I sketched this.

Pretty sure I’m gonna use this for her from now on.

So I was hoping the Ultra Beasts would be villains, was disappointed to find out they're not, and then thought, "hey, what if Shade had somethng like them as minions?"

I have no idea what I’ve done, but I’m not apologising for it.

I felt like playing around with some brushes in SAI, and in doing so made this little magic bagcist.

My half of an art trade with @Gabe. He wanted some of his OCs in a situation, and looking at their designs and bios, I took a liking to Betty (left) and Frail (right), and so decided on having the two in a battle.

I felt like putting some extra SAI brush skills to use by adding a swing effect and clouds in the background.

When she's not onstage and she's by herself, Lumina likes to dress more casually.

For someone who’s Jessica’s main enemy, I hardly draw Charn a lot. Let's change that.

Standard full-body shot (didn't colour in his black bits to avoid getting graphite smudges over the other pages of the sketchbook).

I always thought about how Charn's eyes worked - if the entire shape moved, if he dimmed LEDs to mimic eyelids, if his pupils acted like eyes with their own eyelids etc. So I sketched out how I reckon they work.

Yep, as if Charn didn't have immense and near totally-exclusive power of magic at his command, he's also a Transformer.

Er... well, I don't fancy the odds of this matchup, so... goodbye Jess, it was nice knowing you...?
