  • Sonic the Hedgehog Ranks #6 in Pornhub's Most Popular Video Game Characters in 2023

Some of you have some serious New Year Resolutions to make...

Sometimes the life of a Sonic News reporter can be a messy business. You not only have to cover what Sonic-related content people are playing and reading, but also what they're watching. And, according to adult supersite Pornhub, one of the things a lot of people seem to be watching is... er, well. Porn. Of Sonic.

The company published its annual 'Year in Review' report for 2023 (we won't link it for obvious reasons, but if you're 'interested', it's out there) and there is a section covering Video Games specifically. In it, Sonic the Hedgehog is listed in the Top 10 of Most Searched Video Game Characters. He is bested by some understandable favourites; Lara Croft from Tomb Raider, Tifa from Final Fantasy and Chun Li from... Fortnite???

    2023-phub-character.jpeg

We won't worry about that minor mistake - we aren't the Street Fighter Stadium here. But it's kind of morbidly impressive that Sonic the Hedgehog beat out (er, pun not intended) a number of other popular characters on the list. We feel comfortable that he ranked higher than Mario though. That seems appropriate.

The fact that this is a ranking for Sonic as a character, not the series in general, and that he appears as the top-ranking male (of which there are few) on the list, is even more surprising.

Pornhub also revealed its Most Searched for Video Games of 2023 in the same report - however Sonic the Hedgehog (the game/series, not the character this time) does not feature. Super Mario does however. Not sure what that says about that. You can see that chart below, if you're interested.

What do you think about this random turn of events? Let us know in the comments section below (but do keep it clean please, we do have Community Rules in place. Innuendos are fine though, we love those).

The Sonic Stadium may link to retailers and earn a small commission on purchases made from users who click those links. These links will only appear in articles related to the product, in an unobtrusive manner, and do not influence our editorial decisions in any way. All proceeds will go to supporting our community and continued coverage of Sonic the Hedgehog. Thank you in advance for your kind support!

Not every piece of news is for you, and that's okay.

Oh the funny news reporter, but why stop there? There are many more topics that could increase your visitor numbers! Like the funny affairs between content creators and voice actors, how the certain game director clicked the Like button on the funny tweets, or, if those examples are too hot, how some of Sonic Origins developers have been caught crunching and accidentally using fan-created pixel graphics from Sonic 3 Complete?..

But wait, you aren't allowed to say something negative about it, they already paid you to turn a blind eye.

This is a very confusing post. For starters it relies on you not knowing that the very same person you're complaining at did write an article about the sprites the Son of a Glitch guy stole that made their way into Sonic Origins; but more importantly it seems patently absurd to me to insinuate that Sega paid Dreadknux to turn a blind eye to inconvenient news regarding the franchise in the same breath as you complained about a story he wrote regarding how much people used Sonic to jack off to in 2023.

You're really showing your bare arse here. Absolutely embarrassing.

    1. I've never been paid to "turn a blind eye" to anything. All of my coverage has been above board, professional and always with disclaimers where appropriate.

    2. We cover news that we find personally interesting. We don't cover things just for the traffic. If we did, we'd cover the sort of drama you described here. So you boiled your own ass with that one.

    3. We (and specifically, I ~personally~) DID write about the Sonic Origins kerfuffle that you are talking about. But of course, if you actually read this website or knew anything you were talking about, you'd know that already.

    4. It's extremely telling (and downright weird) that this story is the one that pushed you to sign up and write of your absolute fabricated nonsense. Not sure what your weird kink is, but you should probably get that checked out.

Now, if you're quite finished, politely piss off unless you're willing to be an actual productive member of the Sonic Community. Otherwise, kindly go back to Elon's armpit.

Yeah, I see that this topic has already been covered in a quite clickbait-y manner. You can tell your boss that the other two topics are still available.

Literally no one gives a shit about these things Sonic fans were wringing their hands over on Twitter for all of a day each. Never mind those topics delve into personal matters that don't concern us and certainly not you.

That's, uh, not actually a response to what I said. Would you happen to have a response to what I said? You know, the "Sega shill who still somehow has enough leeway to write an article about Sega IP pornography" part?

@MokyyrookDid you really join this forum 1 hour ago just to complain on this subject? (you and similarly PugTheCat yesterday. Suspicious).

Like, what is even your problem? I can't follow your reasoning.

Are you asking me to pretend that corporations don't know about inconvenient media and dozens of articles about it? The entire thing and OG post basically says "Rule 34 exists" and yet they choose to present it to the audience. What is the minimum age of the forum members, 13 years old?

Your shill claims have already been debunked, so that's enough of that. You've also more than made your point (and looked like a tit in the process, but that's your prerogative).

To your age point, how old do you need to be to use Twitter or any other platform? And how many people have read this exact same story/content posted on those platforms by way more influential personalities without this kind of weird feedback? Yet this site gets your ire and blowback?

Nah, something's off with what you're putting out here, sorry. Time to stop, now. You're borderline trolling at this point.

(NEVER thought I'd have an excuse to post this one...lol)

    This is...interesting.

I'm actually surprised to see Sonic as a character rating higher than characters like Rouge the Bat who is practically a magnet for that kind of thing. Like damn, 6th place is pretty damn high! And over Mario too! Not just that, but how the fuck did Sonic beat Ahri from League of Legends?! Or literally any female character?! God damn!

And while we're beating this dead horse, who's the jackass that put Chun-li as a Fortnite character?!

Good lord, 2023 is some hell of a year!

Debunked by going "no I didn't turn a blind eye" while having a 5-star review on a game that is still getting fixed? On a game that has only had a few issues fixed - not directly by the people who created the core engine used for remasters - only months after people like you recommended buying it anyway? Well, forgive me if I'm not convinced.

Seriously though, PH is blocked in my neck of the woods, so I can indulge in enjoying the outright absurdity of this entire topic with impunity. The rest of you lot have some serious explaining to do though.

Believe what you like. I'm not here to convince you, I'm just telling you that you're wrong. Your obvious bias doesn't make your assertion true - you're hanging all this on the fact I wrote a five-star review (which you clearly didn't read)? "People have opinions that don't match up with mine" isn't the gotcha you think it is.

Maybe I should up the age limit for having an account on here after all if this is the sort of incredible deduction on offer here.

This is getting off-topic now so let's just leave it at that.

The funniest part of this story to me is that the top five on this list makes sense, like those are exactly the characters you would expect to see, and then boom there’s Sonic LOL

I've been wondering if we've been giving too much credit to Mario and Sonic and their sex appeal. Having thought about it some more, (Because I have nothing better to do.) the two franchises stands out for being named after a character. It's often difficult to search for content for a specific character from that series, without including the name of the protagonist the series is named after.

It's hard for me personally to test this on a regular search engine because I suspect the algorithm or whatever they use to read our thoughts, knows that if I innocuously type Luigi into Google, I must be searching for Mario's brother, because I've searched for Mario content many times in the past. I mean, Amy Rose sounds like a perfectly normal name and I'm willing to believe a real person does have it.

Now just because I don't find Mario and Sonic sexy, doesn't mean somebody else wouldn't. Though we all know Dr. Eggman is the sexiest out of all of them and I am willing to go down fighting on that hill.
