  • Sonic the Hedgehog Ranks #6 in Pornhub's Most Popular Video Game Characters in 2023

    Sometimes the life of a Sonic News reporter can be a messy business. You not only have to cover what Sonic-related content people are playing and reading, but also what they're watching. And, according to adult supersite Pornhub, one of the things a lot of people seem to be watching is... er, well. Porn. Of Sonic.

    The company published its annual 'Year in Review' report for 2023 (we won't link it for obvious reasons, but if you're 'interested', it's out there) and there is a section covering Video Games specifically. In it, Sonic the Hedgehog is listed in the Top 10 of Most Searched Video Game Characters. He is bested by some understandable favourites; Lara Croft from Tomb Raider, Tifa from Final Fantasy and Chun Li from... Fortnite???

    We won't worry about that minor mistake - we aren't the Street Fighter Stadium here. But it's kind of morbidly impressive that Sonic the Hedgehog beat out (er, pun not intended) a number of other popular characters on the list. We feel comfortable that he ranked higher than Mario though. That seems appropriate.

    The fact that this is a ranking for Sonic as a character, not the series in general, and that he appears as the top-ranking male (of which there are few) on the list, is even more surprising.

    Pornhub also revealed its Most Searched for Video Games of 2023 in the same report - however Sonic the Hedgehog (the game/series, not the character this time) does not feature. Super Mario does however. Not sure what that says about that. You can see that chart below, if you're interested.

    Psml, this has made my morning! I know "furries" are on the rise but these stats just make me wonder who is up to this and if there is a gender bias in it???

    Intetesting Sonic makes it on to the list but no Amy / Rouge. Lol.

    Im assuming it may have something to do with Gold Rings??

    1) I'm glad Mario is here so close, at least we have company (not to mention Pokemon and Splatoon in franchise) category. I don't know whenever I would prefer if we "won" or "lost" this one.

    2) They are also the only two males on that list, which is... interesting. I would expect Link or Ryu to be here.

    3) But Pokemon lost to... MINECRAFT???? I have questions, but I'm afraid to google.

    4) I do find it weird that Tifa is slightly above Lara, yet in franchises Tomb Rider is above Final Fantasy. Logic would suggest that FF with it's army of characters would win. No love for Aerith? Terra? Cloud? Cindy? Crossdressing Cloud?

    ...I'm probably giving it too much though.

    P.S. I'm going to guess Chun Li is marked correctly as Fortnite bc people are searching for the specific skin version. Not that I would know though...🤣

    My girl from Street Fighter ranking #1 but in the wrong franchise LOL. But then again, this is focusing on the straight category so that's expected, though seeing Sonic and Mario on the list is very questionable, so I thought Amy, Rouge, and Peach will be on the list. So, asking for either Link, Ryu or other male characters on the list usually be in the gay category.

    The fact that the list is otherwise so incredibly female character-dominated does make me wonder if Sonic the Hedgehog, the character, ranks so high simply on his meme-culture value.  Like, there are thousands of people out there for whom Sonic is their go-to obvious "omg search for this it'll be so funny" porn site search query.  I find it hard to imagine that of those who would seek porn of male video game characters earnestly, Sonic is the ONLY one who would rank in a top 32 list like this.

    Or maybe I'm underselling our boy (and Mario)'s raw sex appeal, I'll have to invite those here with us today who are attracted to male/masculine characters to speak for the class!

    If this'd been back when Shadow was everywhere and Rouge was more prominent, then the number of searches for the whole franchise would likely be much higher

    All the years people gave Rouge flack for being overly sexualized, when it was actually Sonic's blue butt that was the true bait for degeneracy.

    Maybe now they'll finally see it fit to put some pants on him. He can literally add video game sex icon to his list of achievements. Those are words I never thought I'd type.... but dang, the stats back it up.

     

    This is actually a morbidly curious little fun fact. Next time I see someone complain about Rouge I am certainly hot-linking back to this.
