British game studio Team17 - best known for their breakout arcade games on the Commodore Amiga home computer - has signed a deal with SEGA that will see the House of Sonic publish the upcoming third-dimensional multiplayer strategy game, Worms 3D.
The Worms series has always been in 2D, and this entry is the first step into the third dimension, with third-person control as you seek to defeat opposing teams' worms with crazy weapons like bazookas and banana bombs. It's sounding quite ambitious!
According to a story on SPOnG, SEGA decided to pick up the license to Worms because, "Brilliant gameplay and a strong brand Worms 3D has SEGA 'hit' written all over it," Okay, if you say so.
"The creators at Team 17 have inspired us all with their passion and vision and we're delighted to be partnering with them in bringing Worms 3D to as wide a market as possible."
No doubt the game will be present at this year's E3 as well, at SEGA's booth. We love Team17's games, and we love SEGA, so as random as this all sounds, this is good news! We hope Worms 3D turns out great too.
