  • Sonic X Shadow Generations: New Key Artwork and Action-Packed Screenshots Inside!

Learn more about the Open-Zone White Space in the game, too!

SEGA has shared with the Sonic Stadium the latest hi-resolution images for Sonic X Shadow Generations, including the new key art that will feature on the game's packshot and a whole host of screenshots that showcase the dynamic worlds that Shadow the Hedgehog will explore alongside remastered Classic and Modern Sonic stages.

Alongside the key art and screens, SEGA also revealed some brand new gameplay information. Shadow's section of the game will run as a standalone campaign, with an all-new 3D White Space hub that's inspired by the open-zone gameplay of Sonic Frontiers. Much like in the original Sonic Generations, Shadow reveals more of the White Space open zone as he completes more stages throughout his campaign.

The story for Shadow's venture into the White Space goes something like this: Black Doom, the alien army leader that bothers our anti-hero in the 2005 game Shadow the Hedgehog, re-emerges and threatens to take over the world once again. In order to beat him, Shadow had to revisit his past and confront his painful memories.

Shadow will be equipped with all-new Doom Powers to help him overcome waves of enemies through each stage. Some examples include the ability to surf on water, fly over obstacles and even stop time with Chaos Control. I'm assuming one of the Doom Powers is whatever this winged transformation is.

As you can see, some of these screenshots just look really freaking COOL. Whoever was in charge of capturing press images for this title at SEGA, they must have been having a really great time. There's some stylish images bundled here.

While the new Shadow stages are clearly the headlining act, let's not forget that Sonic the Hedgehog is in this game too. And we have some crisp images of the 'Sonic Generations' side of the game in action right here too.

And yes, as the PlayStation Blog post about the game recently confirmed... the Casino Night pinball table from the original Sonic Generations is indeed back in this remaster, all present and correct:

On top of this, SEGA says that it is going back and adding updated visuals and reworked cinematics for the original Sonic Generations side of the game as well. You can see this clearly in some of the screenshots below, particularly with the added Chao in the birthday party scene - a nod to the new Chao Rescue missions that will feature Sonic X Shadow Generations.

Ok, ok, they got me this time (and probably the next time, too). I'm probably going to pre order this, but I only ever pre-order physical games; I just can't bring myself to trust the digital game industry. I hope that Terios skin becomes part of a separate package like the Sonic Superstars crap did. It would at least present the option to players who don't feel great buying digital.

Well, thank you for sharing, SEGA! Apparantly, Shadow just becomes god, (unlike his motives in the snapcube fandub of ShTH 2005), which is pretty cool! AND CHAOS CONTROL IS BACK?! I can't wait!

It’s funny…I’ve said one of the ways to improve ShTH would be to do away with guns and give him new Chaos Powers instead.

Makes me wonder if someone snooped on this board, read my past post, then decided “instead of Chaos Powers, they’re Doom Powers!” And the executives were like “Brilliant!”

Also, never said this in the Rumor topic, but wings were definitely an unexpected idea over giving him new energy attacks, but like Father, like Son, huh?

Also, we’re revisiting Soleanna? Or am I mixing that up with the White Space open zone?

If I wasn't already exited for this game, I'm most definitely exited now.

Glad they're adding additional stuff to the original Generations section, and hopefully the "more" isn't just for show.

as for the Shadow content, Looks Soooo Goooooood.

From the new additions of moves and playing into the fact he has Black Arms blood letting him do more weird stuff, funnily enough is stuff I wanted shadow to have for a while but thought they would never do on account that they wouldn't want to reference ShTH ever again.

Plus not only custom skins, BUT TERIOS!! It's so cool and weird seeing Shadows concept art be used in a game and not just as fan-made renders. I feel like casuals are going to be so confused seeing that who don't know.

Final thing of note, after seeing the White Space open zone with familiar architecture, and Wind Valley being another one of Shadows Stages, it makes me wonder. Is Black Doom the only villain Shadow has to face? Or is someone else Waiting in the DARK?

Aw man, you mean Gerald's journal and these extended animated scenes are only going to be available for PS4/5 owners? Why are they screwing over non-PlayStation fans like this? : (

    ---

I'm confused, is Gerald's journal going to be a real, physical book?

Soleanna, hell yeah! For someone that actually loves 06 this game is a day 1 for me. The trailer showing off the Train in bullet station was awesome too.

Trying to pre order on the Amazon JP website for the extra stuff but it seems the PS5 version won't ship to my area, only the Switch version.

Gerald's journal is for all physical versions of the game, so PS4, PS5, Switch and Xbox, only the animations are PS4/5-exclusive

Yes they always have the option to buy a physical copy + upgrade with digital deluxe content separately, only it usually costs a bit more, shame on SEGA. Although it may be worth getting the digital deluxe this time, the new skin and new stage might be movie related.

Also, I'd rather get it physical because...

...of this. It is possible to get most of the content between pre-order, physical and digital deluxe, I'm only missing out on the animations which will be on Youtube anyway.

Now I'm praying the Switch version doesn't look/play like shit.
