Sonic Frontiers Reaches "The Final Horizon" With Update #3 On September 28th

The last update for Frontiers is called "Super Complete Battle" in Japan, which is shonen AF and I dig it. The Japanese website also mentions additional missions, content, and gimmicks for Ouranos Island.

Something I immediately caught on to that I haven't seen people talking about is the fact that Sonic's eyes turn the same color as the cyloop. You can see flecks of purple along the edges of his irises.

I am SO excited for this. Definitely gonna have to put Frontiers down until then so I can start up a fresh save file for the new story.

I wonder if that titan is like a corrupted or juiced up version of Supreme.

Tomoya Ohtani hints at a new song for this boss! 

Will it have Kellin Quinn back? I wonder.

Let's see... There's already Sonic's new cybernetic form, so I don't think that's Super Sonic with cybernetic abilities, but who knows? (Sega know) Or, maybe, Ultra Sonic? Emerald Sonic? Or even Super Sonic with Emerald Powers from Superstars?! Super Sonic with Ancients' unique power? I have lots of fanarts in my head I should draw already

Upd: I just read a theory that that's Super Sonic with negative cyber energy. Mysterious!

Ooohhhh, a lot sooner than expected. I had thought around December time but this is good. With work, family etc, I can see me still finishing this off as superstars releases. Was the same with dlc 2 and origins plus. Not had such a busy sonic schedule since, well... the early 00s (?)with PC re-releases, console and GBA releases. 

Looking forward to this and am keen to see how it hopefully expands the story (and fingers crossed that its not a retcon of the last 3rd of the game) and why the 3 are back as cyber ghosts again. Also keen to see how it will deploy too -will it just kick in from my completed save game file ir will it be an extra on the main title menu screen.

Only 4 weeks to wait i guess!! Thats no time!

So, I read somewhere that this is going to be the final "free" update for Sonic Frontiers...

Does that mean there will be more updates that we'll have to pay for instead of being free?

Machine TL: "In "Super Perfect Battle!", a new story set on Uranus Island will be added, and Amy, Knuckles, and Tails will be able to operate as playable characters. While taking advantage of each special action, you can capture new gimmicks and missions and experience a different ending from the main story."

Yeah, it’s a very have your cake and eat it approach. It’s nice but also confusing as to what’s happening if the picture is true AND it’s a rewrite. 

Perhaps SAGE takes part in some time travel shenanigans and goes back to before Sonic takes on THE END? Whatever happens, ideally I think this needs to play out as Tails, Knuckles and Amy contributing in some way to unlocking this super secret extra (Hyper) power for Super Sonic to use before the final boss - that gives their inclusion some purpose.

And again, unless Time Travel is involved narratively, I don’t think the player should have to be presented with two optional endings (especially because timeline splits are annoying) and I like the original ending despite the lacklustre build up and final bosses. I enjoyed THE END for what it was worth, but not the final Titan. 

On top of that, SAGE’s sacrifice (yes I know she’s not dead) and the gang still splitting up at the end meant something in this game… so I’d hate for these narratives to be wiped away entirely. 

Honestly I'm hype I want it to come out soon to play it, just like I'm saving for Sonic Superstars

In before he pulls a Team 4 star. "Kaioken..." 'noooo...' "tiiiimes..." 'no-no-no.' "FOUR!" 'nonononono-fuuuuuuuuu----'.

Where I do like the thought of the 3rd act being redone with a new titan instead of climbing 4 Eifel towers, even though the parkouring was kinda fun to nail in one go without falling down (so maybe they'll add in the titan). It does however put this blue eyed super sonic in an odd spot in the story since it would still have to fight Supreme afterwards, where he DIDNT have his blue complementary contact lenzes.

I think the more logical option would be to swap Act 3 with 4 and have the 'sacrifice' of Knux, Tails and Amy be what triggers this Blue eyed Super Sonic. Flavour it with a sense that the 3 of them having absorbed so much Cyberspace goodness/ the positive side of it, to have it mesh better with Sonic now that they've essentially taken the bad cyberspace corruption out of Sonic.

That does leave the scene where Sage takes the Supreme titan and they battle it out with The End feeling a bit weird since why SPARE Supreme besides plot convenience to have Sage merge with it and do The End fight.

We'll see in 1 months' time I guess, but I'm hyped to play the others. Wondering what Amy brings to the table.

I still don't like the idea of the gang going their separate ways at the end of Frontiers. Unless it leads to more spin-offs it could imply that Tails, Knuckles and Amy could be absent from future "Modern" games, possibly for a very long time.

I know Superstars has the whole gang playable, but for me, that's it's own separate "Classic" thing, so it doesn't count.

Ahh, see I didn't really read into the gang "splitting up" too heavily. I think for the purposes of the narrative Frontiers was telling it works - but I still totally expect them to be back by the next game with a short amount of time passed in-game. I doubt they'll make them as absent as Shadow has been of late, and I can't see Sonic going solo except for gameplay. 

Also, the interim of the "Classic" series titles aside - the modern games recently have had a cycle of 3-5 years between each entry - so suddenly clearing the gang out for a solo adventure would be pretty unwise if you ask me. That being said, I also don't really expect "Frontiers 2" will take quite as long considering they want to hone and focus their efforts on the Open Zone format rather than spend time trying to reinvent the wheel again.

Additionally - Tails, Knux and Amy are playable characters in this upcoming update, so that makes for a pretty strong case that the devs are using this update to test the waters before potentially have them be playable (from the off) in their next Open Zone title.

True, But there isn't really anything stopping Sega from outsourcing spin-off titles to third-party studios. I'd love to see an open-world Tails game, for example, developed outside of Sega themselves.

Plus it would give them more time in the spotlight after living in Sonic's shadow for so long!
