  • Sonic & Co. Fight Eggman's Dreams in Sonic Dream Team, Launching Dec. 5 on Apple Arcade

I'm dreaming of another Sonic game this year.

Less than a month since the launch of the last Sonic game, we've already got the announcement of our NEXT Sonic game, coming from mobile developer SEGA HARDlight, developer of the Sonic Dash series, Sonic Forces Speed Battle, Chu Chu Rocket Universe, and others.

While details on the game are light right now, the trailer shows off bright and colorful 3D environments, multiple playable characters, and new animation by Powerhouse. The trailer itself also features a new track composed by Tee Lopes. From the official press release...

    Quote

In this all-new Sonic adventure, the evil Dr. Eggman has discovered The Reverie – an ancient device with the power to manifest dreams in the real world. Navigate twisted dreamscapes, rescue your friends, and put a stop to Dr. Eggman’s nightmarish dreams of world domination!

Below are a few of the key features players can look forward to this December:

    Six Playable Characters
Choose from six different characters – Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, Cream and Rouge. Each character brings their own flare and personality, fitting within three movement types that provide unique exploration opportunities while navigating the dream world.

    Spectacular Boss Battles
Four spectacular boss battles that will test your skills across the different movement types.

    Never-Before-Seen Dream Worlds
We’re not in Green Hill anymore! Play through 12 intricate levels set within four unique dream worlds with mind-bending environments that include wall-running, gravity changes and more.

    Combining Mobile and Cross-Platform Experiences
Sonic Dream Team bridges the gap between mobile and console, allowing players a quality experience across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV.

Looks very ambitious for a mobile game, seeing characters running around freely in a open space is pretty wild

WHY isn't this a console game?
WHY is it an Apple Arcade exclusive?
WHY does it look better than the ACTUAL current(?) 3D console game?

    Why does SEGA hate money

well, being an apple arcade exclusive is a nice way for sega to say 'fuck you' to the fanbase. I will never own a apple product since I really can't stand this company at all. So thanks for nothing, Sega.

    Apple exclusive? Pass.

Thought they would have learned after the Nintendo exclusivity deal which pretty much limited sales of games. Looks ok but I refuse to change to apple

Thank you, I'm upset about it too. Looks like a console game, but it's on Apple. WHY SEGA WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

    Some screenshots

man actually insane this is the closet to what I wanted a 3D Sonic game to look like since Gens and it’s a mobile exclusive. Colors could be less saturated and more detailed but it’s mobile so of course that won’t be feasible.

It's still a little surreal seeing Rouge here on the main cast with no Shadow in sight.  Interesting that they're mixing things up with how they use the characters, though.

I think a ton of Apple Arcade exclusives have eventually ceased to be exclusive, so there's that!

As a loyal Apple customer (with an Apple Arcade subscription) I resent that!

This game looks AMAZING! It seems very ambitious for a game made for iPhones and iPads!

    Plus, Cream is Playable! Nice!

Thank you Sega for giving me a reason to justify my Apple Arcade subscription!

Looks nice but I'm not an Apple Arcade subscriber.

Guess I could take a dip, though, I have plenty of iStuff. Wonder if x86 macOS is compatible...

I thought Sega loved money. Otherwise, they wouldn't be making deadlines for games later in the year they come out. *insert trollface here*

I love how this looks, actually. I guess I have a reason to subscribe to Apple Arcade. Who is that anthro character in the right side of the screen in the game's Youtube video, by the way?

First it was Samba De Amigo getting the better version of Party Central on Apple Arcade with its story mode and now Sonic is seeing an entire, actually interesting game being put behind that wall... that's fucking wild. Apple must be paying for this game is full, jfc.

Wonder if my iPhone SE can run this well enough. I would hope, with this being an Arcade title and not just an app, that it supports Bluetooth controllers but man this is the first Arcade game I even remotely care about idfk. Seems like there's a one month free trial of the service so I'll promptly be activating that on the 5th I guess lmao

That aside though... this is actual trash. This game is looking to be exactly what a lot of fans have been asking for and they're locking it behind one of the most walled ecosystems out there. Apple shit is some of the most expensive bs out there. This is exclusivity bs taken to its next level.

Fact of the matter is that a lot of fans will not be able to play this game (let alone optimally probably). That's shit.

As for the game itself... idk, is giving off some mad LW vibes tbh which I'm not excited about. Looks impressive for a mobile game but I imagine it'll be a relatively short affair with text-based cutscenes and a few animations thrown at the beginning and end of the game. At the end of the day, probably not anything to go out and buy an iPhone over.

I am chuckling how this shit still looks more visually impressive than Superstars tho

What generation of SE? A 2022 should be fine.

Looks a lot more ambitious than the lane runners they've been doing. Gameplay seems a bit simple, kind of basic Marioish 3d platformer maybe but with springs and rails and the boost, but that's not necessarily bad. But I've got nothing Apple to play it on so...

Well, I have Apple Arcade, but I think it's strange that they didn't make it for consoles, maybe it'll be a small project with no special features or something. And no Shadow. (I hope Shadow WILL be in the game, but strange that they didn't add him on the cover, unlike Rouge, although he's one of the most fan-favourite characters, and he didn't make appearances in... Like, 3 games in a row.) (And don't judge me but I think that the colors and name look cheesy.) But yay new character!

edit: yes Shadow won't be in there. Maybe Sega underestimate his dreams and think they'll be too edgy??? My opinion: NO.

Just wondering; Eggman is after something that makes "dreams come true"...

I thought they meant the band that did songs like "Sweet Dreams" and "Up on the Green Hill".

That ram or goat or something.

I feel like it's a sheep, y'know, since people count sheep to help them sleep and this is a dream.

    Alternate dimension Lanolin! Kidding.

    Well, I like her design.
