  • SEGA Releases New Sonic Superstars Music Track

Pinball Carnival’s got a sweet jazzy tune.

It’s that time again: with a Sonic game releasing in a little over a month, SEGA is ramping up the release of content from said game. Today, they’ve released a music track from one of the game’s levels, Pinball Carnival Zone Act 1.

Composed by Rintaro Soma, the new track has a really catch retro, jazzy tune. To briefly inject some editorial opinion into this otherwise objective news piece: I really like what I’m hearing here. Check it out below:

Oh hey, it's by Rintaro Soma. Nice to see that he's sticking around with the franchise even after Frontiers. Soma wasn't my favourite composer from Frontiers, but all of his stuff was solid, especially Fog Funk

Pinball Carnival 1 is decent. Not likely to be one of the best on the soundtrack, but pretty nice. It sounds like Soma took a lot of inspiration from Studiopolis and Collision Chaos. It's fun and bombastic.

Yup, serviceable in a throwback way, but very middle of the road for my tastes.

Tee's duo for Bridge Island Acts 1 and 2 still have yet to be topped IMO.

Love the track to Pinball Carnival I get that 90's vibes feelings from the old classic Sonic games from the Sega Mega Drive. Sonic Superstars looks fresh and something different as well which I liked.

Looking forward to playing It on 17 October the game looks amazing after watching a couple of show cases from different gaming events this year.

Speaking of Funk, (this is not towards just you by the way, Blue Blood) is anyone here Caucasian and male?

I ask because with this tune for Pinball Carnival, it's time to Play that Funky Music, White Boy(s)! Ha, see what I did there?

Honestly, I like this better than Bridge Island. Very Studiopolis, which is peak Sonic music to me. I was checking which songs Rintaro Soma did for Frontiers, and most of them are among my favorites :eggsmug:

This one in particular is giving me Sonic 3D Blast vibes, especially at 00:38 to 00:55.

But hey, they could bring Hidekuni Horita from TSR too, hm? :buffthecat:

I'm surprised there's overlap between Frontiers and Superstars composers, although Rintaro Soma's compositions were much fewer in that game's case. He seems like he's really in his element composing a strictly Classic song, it sounds great. I hope we get to see other composers too.

Yeap, that's exactly what was going through my mind as well - some Spring Stadium vibes for sure. XD

Oh wow, I was literally just talking about Soma. He's definitely a rising star in the SEGA Sound Team, and it's clear that Sonic Team has taken a liking to him after Frontiers.

Via his words on Twitter, Fog Funk is Soma's favourite track that he made for Frontiers.

That was the part that reminded me of the prototype competition screen in sonic 3.
