  • New Sonic Frontiers Patch Makes Easy Mode Easier, Adjusts Knuckles Glide, And More

The Final Horizon has been made a little more final.

Sonic Frontiers' final update, The Final Horizon was...divisive, to say the least. Our own Dreadknux wrote a particularly scathing review about it. A new patch, released today, seems to attempt to fix some of the DLC's more egregious issues, at least on easy mode. Check out a full list of the patch's fixes below!

The following fixes are specific to easy mode:

    • The level design for the trial towers has been changed.
    • The trials of the 4 Koco masters have been made easier, and Sonic's attack power has been adjusted.
    • King Koco's trial has been made easier. You start with 600 rings instead of 400 and the titans have been made weaker. Sonic's perfect parry now lasts much longer. We've also received unconfirmed reports that perfect parry has been made more generous in the other difficulty modes. This is not mentioned in the patch notes, and I can't tell.

The following apply to all difficulties:

    • Pink panels will now respawn after a certain amount of time or distance. This will be a big help for the second trial tower.
    • When Amy, Tails and Knuckles are leveled up, the attack and defense parameters of certain techniques will be increased.
    • Amy, Tails and Knuckles perfect parry is now more generous, and much more generous in easy mode.
    • Cyberspace changes will reset your time if you die without hitting a checkpoint.
    • The patch notes mention other bug fixes. The only one specifically mentioned is a glitch that caused audio to not play during sub-events.
    • Knuckles glide now has no wind up animation and can turn much tighter. Knuckles' glide is significantly better now, and much closer to his Adventure era maneuverability.

There is currently no English patch notes, but you can find a Google translated version of the Japanese patch notes here. Morio Kishimoto said in a tweet that this patch originally began so that they could fix one bug a customer contacted them about. But they couldn't "just stop there," so he and a small team ended up, in his words, "overdoing it," making this whole patch as an early Christmas present.

As you can see, we posted some videos showcasing the changes. We're currently busy with Sonic Dream Team coverage, but if we have time we'll post some more footage of the patch to our Youtube.

Sonic Frontiers Patch 1.41 is available now on all platforms!

oh, I actually really liked the difficulty spike.

Well, glad to see they still listen, even after the final DLC update. Also cool to finally see knuckles in a solid playable state, his glide sucked hard.

While the update is too late to help me, since I already beat the FH. I'm glad to see it and the dedication. Games Cage (the guy who did the Sonic AMV contest) tested out the perfect parry on Hard and it does seemed to be fixed there too. (lasts a full second) While it won't be anytime soon, Frontiers will be one of the games I replay now and then.

The guardians are still not fully balanced, yeah, they are doable now even if you are level 1 with the other characters, but they still have those ridiculously tough attacks, it's just the health bar that is not a problem anymore. They are okay now.

All that brain rot, weeks spent trying to defeat Snake and Master King's trials, for an update to make it easier...

It's all good though, now that this update is out, it means that I can play Final Horizons over and over again without worrying about that difficulty anymore. Now I can say I finished Final Horizons before the "Easy" update! :super:

You're welcome, I do recommend his video on Youtube for the full context (THEY PATCHED SONIC FRONTIERS FINAL HORIZON is the title) he goes through each character and generally notes that they play much better now, before doing the trial again if you want to skip to that part.

Given that I've still yet to even touch the Final Horizons story (still on Ares Island on PC and I'm not looking forward to what comes next), these updates probably won't be much of a game-changer to me, but hopefully it means I'll have a good time whenever I do reach the final island.

It seems something might’ve gotten thrown off with the Guardian health. Sam Procrastinates just showed that Guardian health, at least for the trio, is the same on Easy and Hard…7 wrenches from Tails for Spider+ on both difficulties.

I just saw a video which confirms that during the Knight fight of the King Trail, the game will now teach you how to change targets too. That's a fantastic addition as it was a crucial aspect of the final fight. And you can also get past it's shield, that's a neat thing I never knew too.

Oh, finally a viable Knuckles. This thankfully fixes a lot of my issues with Update 3.

...does this mean i have to rewrite my review on youtube now, shat...
